The contribution of small farms to local food supply, food security and food sovereignty is widely acknowledged at a global level. In the particular case of Europe, they often are seen as an alternative to large and specialised farms. Assessing the real role of small farms has been limited by a lack of information, as small farms are frequently omitted from agricultural censuses and national statistics.
There are some very old buidling sin riverside that must date from the 1860's. They are tiny and have not looked like they wer emodernized in any way.
Draughn-Moore/Ace of Clubs House (NRHP)
1885 Ace of Clubs House- This 22- sided house is built in the shape of a “Club” playing card. The local legend is that entrepreneur James H. Draughon built the house with the winnings from a poker game. The winning card was the Ace of Clubs. Each room represents a specific period in the history of the house. The house is located at 420 Pine Street and is part of The Texarkana Museums System. 903-793-4831; www.texarkanamuseums.orgss

This 1885 Italianate Victorian home is a National Register property and a Recorded Texas Historical Landmark. Built in the shape of a club, with three octagonal wings and an rectangular wing, this house is considered one of the most unique in the country. It has been features in several publications and broadcasts including HGTV’s “Christmas Castles” and “Bob Villa’s Guide to Historic Homes.
Perhaps the most one-of-a-kind house in the country is found in Texarkana. The Ace of Clubs House, also known as the Draughon-Moore home, has one of the most unusual histories in the area. According to local legend, the Ace of Clubs House was built with winnings from a poker game won with the draw of the ace of clubs. Fittingly, lumberman and Confederate veteran Captain James Draughon built the home in 1885 in the shape of a club. In 1894, Henry Moore, a Texarkana attorney, bought the house.

in God I trust and am not afraid.

Urbex Benelux -
A small top location in the Benelux. Everyone has their taste in photography. This also applies to the urbex varieties. I personally really like small houses, just to get the feeling of how the people have lived there. And an urbex house makes it all that much more personal than a factory. That is why Maison Varenberg was a nice location for me to photograph.
We were just passing thru the tiny town of Tule Lake on our way to the Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge so we didn't need to stay at the hotel - which is probably no longer a hotel anyway...

I thought I would see how I managed getting about on my own with my one hand.. I surprised myself. It was great walking around the city again. There was a lot to see because of the RISE festival.
December 22, 2013, Christchurch CBD New Zealand.
Street artists armed with spray cans and paint rollers are coming to the rescue of Christchurch's struggling suburbs and city centre. Dozens of large artworks have been created on walls across the city this month with many more going up this week.
The RISE street-art festival has commissioned a dozen large street-art paintings in the city centre, while the From the Ground Up project has organised about 16 large artworks in the city centre and Sydenham. Christchurch business owners and city leaders believe street art will help regenerate areas hit hard by the earthquakes and draw tourists to the city.
Canterbury Employers' Chamber of Commerce chief executive Peter Townsend said street art adds ''a whole new dimension'' to what the city offered.
"Putting street art in significant places in our city has the potential to make Christchurch unique,'' he said.
''It can create a real point of difference for a city and transform otherwise ugly buildings into an asset for the city.''
RISE festival director George Shaw said vibrant street art changed the feel of a city.
''If you paint amazing art on blank walls it brightens everything up and makes the place feel relevant and alive.
''That is desperately needed in cities across the world and especially in Christchurch.''
From the Ground Up organiser Jacob Ryan said about 20 New Zealand artists had created artwork in the city for the project.
''We wanted to get the city going again and make Christdhchurch a more interesting place. The aim was to brighten up the city. It has a real impact on this scale. Christchurch is the perfect canvas.''
Sydenham Quarter chairman Anthony Barker said street art had brightened his quake-hit suburb and attracted shoppers.
The business association helped get permission for street artists to use walls in Sydenham for the From the Ground Up festival.
The RISE festival also includes a major street-art exhibition at the Canterbury Museum opening tomorrow. The exhibition will feature one of the largest private collections of Banksy artworks in the world, work by international and local street artists, and new work by Australian artist Ian Strange.

Bonilla de la Sierra is a municipality located in the province of Ávila, Castile and León, Spain. According to a 2006 census, the municipality had a population of 152 inhabitants in 2006, making it one of the lowest populations in Spain.
This picturesque town, which served as inspiration for the great Francisco de Goya, nestles in the foothills of the Sierra de Ávila mountains, close to the River Corneja valley. Declared the seat of a bishopric, it enjoyed a privileged status throughout the 14th and 15th centuries, and was the home of many major figures including Alonso de Madrigal, Juan de Carvajal and the man it was named after - Juan de Bonilla, a Franciscan, writer and Prior of Villasilos in Palencia.
In the town square stands the magnificent Collegiate Church of San Martín, a superb Gothic temple dating back to the first half of the 15th century, and which boasts a single wide nave, eye-catching gargoyles and jutting buttresses, all reflecting the town’s former medieval splendor.
I almost got robbed here in the middle of the day. Always be alert. You never know where the next useless sack of c^%$ is going to be there to cause you harm because they want something you earned and just want to take it away.
