Couldn’t ignore the famous Mesa Arch in Canyonlands, Utah when staying in Moab. Early sunrise with dozens of other photographers made this not the best experience, but I’ve got my shot! Moving on :)

Set in the heart of royal London, Wellington Arch was built as an original entrance to Buckingham Palace, later becoming a victory arch proclaiming Wellington's defeat of Napoleon. Crowned by the largest bronze sculpture in Europe, it depicts the Angel of Peace descending on the 'Quadriga' - or four-horsed chariot - of War.

The Wellington Arch, also known as the Constitution Arch or (originally) as the Green Park Arch, is a Grade I-listed triumphal arch by Decimus Burton that forms a centrepiece of Hyde Park Corner in central London, between the corner where Hyde Park meets Green Park. The Arch stands on a large green-space traffic island with crossings for pedestrian access. From its construction (1826–1830) the arch stood in a nearby location, slightly to the east, directly across from Burton's Ionic screen entrance to Hyde Park; it was moved a short distance to its current site at the top of the Constitution Hill road in 1882–1883. The triumphal arch originally supported a colossal equestrian statue of the 1st Duke of Wellington by the sculptor Matthew Cotes Wyatt, acquiring its name as a result. Peace descending on the Quadriga of War by sculptor Adrian Jones, a bronze of the Goddess of Victory Nike riding a quadriga (an ancient four-horse chariot), has surmounted the arch since 1912.

Double Arch in Arches National Park Utah. This park is wonderful to tour and take photos. On this day we started with the sunrise, hiked through out the day and then finished with the sunset at the windows and turret arch.

I am trying to get to like B&Ws. So I have taken some of my travel photos that I think might make a good B&W.

Part of the Devil's Garden trail near Landscape Arch.

Landscape Arch is the longest natural rock arch in Arches National Park in Utah. It was named by Frank Beckwith, leader of the Arches National Monument Scientific Expedition, who explored the area in the winter of 1933–1934, and can be reached by a walk of 0.8 mi (1.3 km).

The Natural Arch and Bridge Society (NABS) now considers the Landscape Arch to be the fifth longest natural arch in the world having measured the span in 2004 at 290.1 feet (88.4 m) ±0.8 feet (0.24 m). Due to the rockfalls, the trail beneath the arch was closed. (From Wikipedia).

This is at Arches National Park. This huge arch is also know by such names as Dutchman's pants, which seems more descriptive to me. If you look carefully you can see tiny people on the left. There was a good sized canyon between me and the arch.

The wonderful Double Arch in Arches National Park. I shot this before sunrise in order to emphasize the details of this massive structure.

So Thursday of last week I took off on a 4 day photo trip with Rian and our friends Jay and Daniel (I don't think they are active on Flickr). We left early and headed straight to Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada, then Zion on Friday, and off to Page, AZ on Saturday. Sunday we headed back to SoCal through the worst traffic the 15 freeway had to offer. Needless to say we slept very little and shot many a photo.

This shot is from Arch Rock in Valley of Fire State Park which may just be one of the best spots I have been to for photography! It is certainly the best in Nevada. Photographic opportunities are literally everywhere and I could spend an eternity out there and still come across new shots! Hope you enjoy!

Please, if you mark it as a favorite, take a moment to comment on it as well.

Delicate Arch

Arches National Park

Moab, Utah

November 2015

Looking through Delicate Arch toward the snow-covered La Sal Mountains is one of the best views in Arches National Park. The contrast of red rock and winter white makes this view unforgettable.

Shot hand-held (with arm propped on a ledge) because security took away my tripod at the entrance, since tripods are frequently used for nefarious purposes (eyeroll).
