A view of canyon country through Mesa Arch in the Island in the Sky section of Canyonlands National Park. The La Sal Mountains are in the distance.
While waiting for the sunset light to get out from under the cloud deck, it was nice helping those that wanted to get selfies taken with their phones. Did this for a bunch of folks. In this case, someone else was taking the capture for this family, so I took the moment to capture them in this family moment under the arch giving it some scale.
It seems like there must be an interesting historical story behind these unique rock formations at Arches National Park. There are amazing landscapes throughout the park!
Early evening capture with natural light coming down from the slightly less than quarter moon that was setting in the west and falling on the arch, and a mix of glow on the clouds there in the frame which is from the town of Moab.
The park has over 2,000 natural stone arches, in addition to hundreds of soaring pinnacles, massive fins and giant balanced rocks.
Sunrise at Mesa Arch, every photographer dream... We all have in mind this amazing picture of the sun rising over the La Sal mountains, hitting the bottom of the arch, creating an amazing scenery.
I was determined to get one of those, but you know what? Nature flipped me off. Lots of clouds and no sun. Kind of a bummer when you've traveled thousand of miles and when you know this is probably the only attempt you'll have in you life to take this shot.
Anyway, the landscape was amazing so I enjoyed my breakfast here and tried to make the most of the weather situation ! This picture might not be as impressive as the "usual" views of Mesa Arch but I liked the glow and the clouds/sunbeams were very interesting.
Even without the sun, it was an amazing moment.
Let me know what you think of this picture ! I will be glad to read your comments ! Feel free to browse though my gallery as well !

This arch is a free standing sandstone structure in Poison Springs Canyon. It can be a bit tricky to find the spot where one can drop down to the shelf on which the arch is located. It was a fun challenge for us.
