Pick up the spatula and let down your curls ladies, Sugar Baby Aprons is about to give a reason to play dress up in the kitchen!! Inspired by Vintage prints and reflecting the nostalgic days of I love Lucy, Leave it to beaver, These Sexy, Sassy smocks are giving way to a new generation of women are redicovering the joys of cooking at home.
Yay! Look what I just got in the mail from the wonderful Raesha! Months and months ago, we discussed a fabric trade, and she promised me a couple of refashions with some vintage fabric that I had. And this is what I got in the mail today! It's wrinkled, yes, but I just had to try it on right away. It's an old rose pink satin pillowcase that Raesha remade into an apron for me, complete with patch pocket and chocolate brown ribbon detail.
Needless to say, I immediately had to slip on my pearls and grab my new vacuum (btw, you know you're getting old when you get really excited about a new appliance like a *vacuum*!). All I need now is a white picket fence, a spotty house, 2.5 children, and a smiling husband.
Well, okay, the house is mostly clean, we have a chainlink fence, no children for now, and I'm working on the husband bit. *wink*
Thank you, Raesha! I love my new-old apron! I'm so tempted to wear it out and about tomorrow if not for all the jokes I'd be sure to get from my coworkers about getting back into the kitchen and baking some cookies for them! :)
Oooh, and I got another neat refashion goodie from Raesha too that I *will* be wearing tomorrow! :)
I finally got some (thrifted, vintage) smock aprons -- this one is much too big but is my favourite as it has plenty of pockets for keys and lenscaps and lipsticks and extra spoons and tissues...AND...it has daisies on it. I like daisies.
Here is my apron that I designed for Homespun Magazine - featuring apple shaped pockets on the front. It is full reversible too. I am so excited to be able to share photos of my stitching as I designed and made this in May, 2011. Hope you like it...
An apron I made from a pattern in my new book "A is for Apron" - the Fruit Tart. I love this book! I did some hand embroidery on the waistband. There is another photo that shows a close-up of the embroidery.
I am not an expert at embroidery, but I am pleased with the few stitches I can do. My favorite is the French Knot! This apron is for my swap partner in the Sassy Apron Swap I participated in.
Resting after operating flight QF 115 PER - FRA, distance 13.850 kilometers, flying time 17 hrs, 9 min. My last photo in 2020.
At the coffee bar yesterday, I took notice of my barista's apron art. Excellent messaging! #peets #menlopark

Thanks for looking!
This dress felt like I was wearing a kitchen apron and nothing else. It does have a back, but boy, did it feel like I didn't have enough on! Not used to so little material on a dress. This was a few months back now (OK, a good few months, August 2018). Not sure I'd be able to wear it today as it's snowing outside. Anyway, it does give a lovely feel of vulnerability and I did like the pattern and material (think Chinese dress material).
This 1/2 plate ambrotypes shows twin girls standing on a carpeted platform. They wear identical off the shoulder dresses. In the background are sets of legs that appear to be braces to hold them still although they are not the standard upright on a heavy base.
A second ambrotype shows them in identical fur trimmed coats and hats.

do you remember a time
when you fit right into your role
the uniform hugged every curve,
the hat snug around your crown
and you knew you were meant for it
as much as it was meant for you
pull the strings tight around your waist
this is what you were born to do
but it only lasts so long
small legs grow long
tiny hands hold their own future
and now you have to uncover
what else is there
what else has purpose
it's your time now
where do your hands feel home
but while you may find a fit
what if the apron is not yours
sometimes you have to know
when is it your path
and when you are wearing
someone else's garb
