At approximately 0749 on September 15, 2020, UP Train MCXNP 14 ran a stop indication and derailed on a crossover switch at State Line Jct. on the KCT High Line while crossing over from 75 to 74 Track. The switches were out of correspondence, being thrown while the stop signal violation took place. At over 20 MPH, both engines and the head 5 cars derailed, listing but upright.

The derailment thankfully stayed on the ballasted deck bridge without falling to the ground below, but presented a unique challenge with where the equipment came to rest, necessitating the use of several contractors to remove the locomotives and railcars.

Wilkerson Crane Rental, Inc., and Cranemasters did most of the lifting, while Mainline Services LLC., under the direction of BNSF engineering forces, as they have the MOW contract on the KCT; replaced the track. Watco/KCTL dropped new ballast with a BNSF rock train to replace what was removed from the bridge deck during cleanup.

A myriad of other contractors also assisted in moving the needed materials and equipment into the site. The line returned to service at 0450 on the 17th without the crossover, which will be restored at a later date. It was nothing short of a fascinating procedure to watch as the equipment was recovered.

I've seen a horsefly. I've seen a housefly, but I ain't never seen an AC4400CW fly until tonight. It's not far off the bridge, but suspended between the Cranemasters and Wilkerson booms, the engine is suspended over 30 feet above the ground in this photo.

Approximately four-month-old Sprocket, left, and Shutter on their first night home, still in a state of unease from being uprooted from their previous environment.

At approximately 3:15 a.m. on October 19, 2022, southbound CP G16 hit a washout and derailed in Orneville Twp, ME, just south of Milo. They stacked up three GP20C-ECO's (2262, 2279, 2257) and approximately 6 cars. This scene is about 30 hours later, and a pair of sidewinders on site have moved the railcars and engines to the side of the track. No less than four excavators are repairing the roadbed with a parade of dump trucks delivering material. Prefab track pieces are staged on each side for quick install. I would not be surprised if the track is open by the end of the day today.

Approximately 10 km from the entrance of the Fish River Canyon is the Canon Roadhouse. It bursts with colour, curiosity and the quirkiness of the 1950’s and 60’s with paraphernalia from yesteryear. Old abandon Chevys and Fords, signs, a windmill and red roof tops spring out of the Nama-Karoo scrub where it is located. The cafe and bar are a collectors delight; so much to see including hundreds of old vehicle number plates.

Located approximately one kilometre east of Angkor Thom and on the southern edge of the East Baray, it was founded by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university.

It is one big puzzle to put back together, but Australia has a team doing just that.

Stretching approximately 750 Miles (1,200 kilometers) across eight countries, the Alps in Europe formed over a period of hundreds of millions of years when the African and Eurasian tectonic plates collided.

Approximately 50 years ago, when my family moved to Oregon, our real estate lady taught us that the pronunciation of Willamette was Willamette, damn it, not Willamettie - spaghetti. I miss her.
