Blyth is a town in southeast Northumberland, England. It lies on the coast, to the south of the River Blyth and is approximately 13 miles northeast of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Chiwa is a city of approximately 50,000 people located in Xorazm Region, Uzbekistan. According to archaeological data, the city was established in the beginning of the Christian era. It is the former capital of Khwarezmia and the Khanate of Chiwa. Itchan Kala in Khiva was the first site in Uzbekistan to be inscribed in the World Heritage List (1991).
The Islom-Hoja Minaret at Khiva is the tallest, 57m tall minaret, in Uzbekistan. Most of Chiwa's monuments are hundreds of years younger than those in Bukhara and Samarkand.
Islam-Hoja Minaret was built in 1908 by Islam-Hoja of the Prime Minister of Khan. The minaret is a symbol of the country, is an early example of the architecture of the XIV century. The construction was completed in 1910. The tapered shape makes up more slender minaret and strength. The famous Kalyan Minaret is inferior to the height of Islam-Khoja Minaret. Its height is 56 meters and a base diameter is 9.5 meters. Trunk of the minaret is made of bricks, decorated with white and blue tiles made of glazed ceramic.
Islam-Khoja Minaret is the tallest structure in Khiva, visible from anywhere in the city. After rising to the top of the minaret, you will see the most beautiful panorama of the eastern fairy tale city Khiva.
Approximately 280 million years ago the ice that had once covered the area of Hallett Cove Conservation Park began to melt causing a lake to form in that area. The distinct red and white layers of sediment were deposited on the bottom of the ancient glacial meltwater lake which after many years turned to rock.
The Sugarloaf is a cone shape rock because of the weathering and erosion that has occurred over its lifetime. The sediments that the Sugarloaf is made up of are softer sediments therefore they erode and weather much easier and quicker than tough sediments. White sand forms the main portion of the Sugarloaf. At the base of the Sugarloaf is a layer of clay and boulders that fell from ice floating across the lake.
Located approximately 3km north of Burra on the Barrier Highway, lies an abandoned farmhouse.
The cottage, located on ‘Cobb and Co Corner’, was first photographed by iconic Australian landscape photographer, Ken Duncan, and rose to fame on the album cover of Midnight Oil’s ‘Diesel and Dust’ record.

Out yesterday having coffee on the verandah around 6:00 AM... there was a nice breeze and no haze to speak of and the moon on its "descent" seemed bright and clear. So, why not... finally a use for that tripod and gimbal!! Fun to set up and work the camera... first time moon shooter... :-)
Approximately, the size of a salad plate, the "flying saucer" cactus bloom takes your breath away. Fellow photographers were kind enough to point me in its direction so I didn't miss it this morning.

Narcissus were well known in ancient civilisation, both medicinally and botanically, but formally described by Linnaeus in his Species Plantarum (1753). The genus is generally considered to have about ten sections with approximately 50 species. The number of species has varied, depending on how they are classified, due to similarity between species and hybridisation. The genus arose some time in the Late Oligocene to Early Miocene epochs, in the Iberian peninsula and adjacent areas of southwest Europe. The exact origin of the name Narcissus is unknown, but it is often linked to a Greek word (ancient Greek ναρκῶ narkō, "to make numb") and the myth of the youth of that name who fell in love with his own reflection. The English word "daffodil" appears to be derived from "asphodel", with which it was commonly compared.
The species are native to meadows and woods in southern Europe and North Africa with a centre of diversity in the Western Mediterranean, particularly the Iberian peninsula. Both wild and cultivated plants have naturalised widely, and were introduced into the Far East prior to the tenth century. Narcissi tend to be long-lived bulbs, which propagate by division, but are also insect-pollinated

Approximately 60 species of sego lilies, also called mariposa lilies, are found in western North America and three are native to Colorado. Each has a single, grass-like basal leaf plus a few small, linear leaves on stems and one or a few stems supporting large, colorful, cup-shaped flowers. Each flower is comprised of three petals each with a large gland producing nectar, three sepals, six anthers and a stigma with three lobes.
Mariposa is a Spanish word for butterfly, referring to its most colorful pollinators. Sego is a Shoshonean word meaning edible bulb, referring to the root organ that they considered a delicacy.
Nuttall’s sego lily, Calochortus nuttallii, occupies communities dominated by sagebrush or pinyon pine or ponderosa pine. Nuttall’s geographic range is extensive, stretching from Mexico to Canada but also reaching east to Nebraska and west to Nevada and Idaho. Nuttall’s distinguishing characteristic is a pair of conspicuous, broken bands of burgundy above each nectary—neither band reaches either edge of the petal.

For approximately 9-10 months, trains #1-2 were abolished and replaced by a series of turns between Green Bay and East Winona. This was a managerial tactic to force three-person crews.

Traffic moving between Wis. Rapids and Green Bay was handled by two Monday-Friday turns, Job A and Job B. Job B worked Wis. Rapids to Manawa, and Job A worked Green Bay to Manawa. Needless to say, traffic did not move quickly, and was a far cry from the days of the Ford traffic moving faster than the FRA mandated 49 mph.
By late 1987, things returning to normal, with trains #1-2 moving traffic much more quickly across the state.
Lake McKenzie (Boorangoora) is a perched lake on K'gari (Fraser Island) in Queensland, Australia. The lake is located in the Great Sandy National Park. The lake is located 6.2 km southeast of Kingfisher Resort. It is 1,200 metres long and up to 930 metres wide. It is approximately 150 hectares in area.

Colorado's Mesa Verde, Spanish for green table, offers a spectacular look into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home for over 700 years, from AD 600 to 1300.
Today the park protects nearly 5,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings. These sites are some of the most notable and best preserved in the United States.

Australia has approximately 11,500 km2 of mangroves, primarily on the northern and eastern coasts of the continent. Areas where mangroves occur include the intertidal zone of tropical, subtropical and protected temperate coastal rivers, estuaries, bays and marine shorelines. Less than 1% of Australia's total forest area is mangrove forest. Although mangroves are typically found in tropical and subtropical tidal areas,there are occurrences as far south as Millers Landing in Wilsons Promontory, Victoria, Barker Inlet in Adelaide, South Australia and Leschenault Inlet (Koombana Park), near Bunbury, Western Australia. Nearly half of Australia's mangrove forests are found in Queensland (44% of Australia's total), followed by the Northern Territory (37%) and Western Australia (17%). In Western Australia, populations of mangroves are scattered down the coast; the population of the Abrolhos Islands is 300 kilometres south of the nearest population of Shark Bay, and the population at Bunbury is even further south than this (500 km). The Bunbury colonisation may have occurred relatively recently, perhaps only several thousand years ago, with propagules transferred by the Leeuwin Current. The most inland occurrence of mangroves in Australia is a stand of grey mangroves in the Mandora Marsh, some 60 km from the coast. Mangroves protect coastal areas from erosion, storm surge, and tsunamis. The massive root systems of mangroves are efficient at dissipating wave energy. Mangroves retard the tidal movement of water, allowing sediment to be deposited as the tide comes in, and leaving all except fine particles when the tide ebbs. Mangroves therefore build their own environment. The commercial and recreational fishing industries are prime beneficiaries of mangrove forests, which provide breeding and feeding grounds for fish and prawns. About 75% of the fish and prawns caught for commercial and recreational purposes in Queensland spend at least part of their lifecycles in mangroves. In some coastal communities, boardwalks and bird-viewing areas in mangrove forests provide attractions for the eco-tourism industry, for example, at Boondall Wetlands. 23321
