MISSING ITEMS: Mitten, Bitty Bear hood, book

PERSONAL FUN FACT: This getup is stellar quality. It's super thick and cozy. My favorite feature has to be the adorable hood. It fits snugly around Bitty's bald head, and it has sweet little pom poms that dangle from it. I couldn't find any Pleasant Company tags inside mine, but this is so thick it's difficult to see much on the interior. But I was certain this was Bitty Baby, even before I brought it home to double check the identity. I never realized as a kid that the mittens were attached to the snowsuit. I'm not sure how one of mine fell off. I could tell through the bag at the thrift store that this was missing a mitten. That's alright though...at least this didn't have removable shoes! I don't have much luck finding Bitty Baby footwear in the wild, but clothes are quite common. On my older babies, like Kiki and Jelly, this is a tighter fit. But it's looser on the less stuffed newer dolls.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I had a hunch that despite the gaudiness of this ensemble, that it would be well made. Sometimes I am surprised by American Girl clothes. But this was well crafted, as I figured just from looking at stock images. The fur coat is insanely thick, soft, and fuzzy. I was concerned if it would shed...such is the case often with furry coats. There were a few fly away fuzzies that occurred when I first opened it. But even after being worn by Kavi, and then put on Marisol, it didn't continue to shed. It's so bulky that it mostly covers this fabulous sequin top. Okay, it's insanely tacky...but this is meant for dance. All the sequins seem to be secured on well, but time will tell how they hold up (and as I'm typing this, I have just received it in the mail less than 48 hours ago). The pants are flared...very early 2000s indeed. They have smart looking pleats that go up the center of each leg. The pale pink color makes them very versatile...perfect for pairing with my random flea market scraps. The shoes are very hefty, which I did not anticipate. Even Colleen let out a "Wow" when she first ogled this ensemble in person. The only piece that's a little cheap is the hair clip. It's darling, but the barrette itself is sort of flimsy. You can't fit much hair in it at all, which is a bummer. It is made from a thin plastic...I personally prefer metal since it is sturdier. But hey, it is a cute little touch to add to this already bedazzled outfit.

Our History

The Columbia River Gorge draws visitors from all over the world with its commanding vistas, abundant wildlife, and majestic forests. The towering cliffs that form the Gorge create the backdrop for the Magnificent Multnomah Falls.

This natural wonder attracts approximately 2.5 million visitors per year, ranking Multnomah Falls as Oregon’s number 1 visited natural attraction.

Multnomah Falls plummets 620 feet in two major steps. The upper fall plunging 542 feet the lower fall 69 feet distinguishing Multnomah Falls as the highest waterfall in the state of Oregon and second highest in the nation.

The water flowing over Multnomah Falls water is supplied by natural underground springs that originate on Larch Mountain. In springtime, snowmelt additionally supplies the falls, greatly increasing the flow, width and intensity of the falls’ powerful roaring sound.

Lumber baron and philanthropist, Simon Benson donated the land that the falls sat upon, and funding for construction of the Benson Bridge. The bridge, constructed in 1914, allows visitors to cross over the lower falls and continue their paved trail journey to the viewing platform at the top. The platform offers dynamic views of the waterfall, Multnomah Falls Lodge, grounds, and the Columbia River Gorge. Benson also donated additional land that included Wahkeena Falls to the West. The Washington Railroad and Navigation Company donated the property for the lodge to the City of Portland, which was the forerunner of the Union Pacific Railroad. The property was donated with the agreement that The City of Portland would fund the construction of the Lodge

Multnomah Falls Park was dedicated in 1915, and the Multnomah Falls Lodge was completed in 1925. Noted Portland architect Albert E. Doyle designed the historic lodge. Mr. Doyle, well known for his designs of the US Bank, Meier and Frank, Lippman Wolfe, and Reed College buildings in Portland. The Shattuck Company at a cost of $40,000 constructed the Cascadian style stone and timber building. The Historic Lodge now houses The Multnomah Falls Lodge Restaurant, Gift Shop, Snack Bar, Espresso Bar and Interpretive Center.

The first concessionaire of the lodge was Rolla Simmons, who operated the Simmons Hillvilla restaurant in Portland. Simmons operated the food services at the lodge until November of 1942, at which time the lodge was closed for the duration of World War II. The lodge was reopened in February of 1946 under new management. The ownership of the lodge transferred to the US Forest Service in 1939, and is currently operated by the Multnomah Falls Co

How can I get a full resolution copy of these photographs?

All of the photographs here on this Flickr set have a visible watermark embedded in them. All of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available, free, at no cost, at full resolution WITHOUT watermark. We take these photographs as a hobby and as a contribution to the running community in Ireland. We do not know of any other photographers who operate such a policy. Our only "cost" is our request that if you are using these images: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter,LinkedIn, Google+, etc or (2) other websites, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us. This also extends the use of these images for Facebook profile pictures. In these cases please make a separate wall or blog post with a link to our Flickr page. If you do not know how this should be done for Facebook or other social media please email us and we will be happy to help suggest how to link to us.

Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.

In summary please remember - all we ask is for you to link back to our Flickr set or Flickr pages. Taking the photographs and preparing them for online posting does take a significant effort. We are not posting photographs to Flickr for commercial reasons. If you really like what we do please spread the link around, send us an email, leave a comment beside the photographs, send us a Flickr email, etc.

If you would like to contribute something for your photograph(s)?

Some people offer payment for our photographs. We do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would pay for their purchase from other photographic providers we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

Ambohimanga (Antananarivo, Madagascar)

Ambohimanga is a hill and traditional fortified royal settlement (rova) in Madagascar, located approximately 24 kilometers (15 mi) northeast of the capital city of Antananarivo. The hill and the rova that stands on top are considered the most significant symbol of the cultural identity of the Merina people and the most important and best-preserved monument of the precolonial Kingdom of Madagascar and its precursor, the Kingdom of Imerina. The walled historic village includes residences and burial sites of several key monarchs. The site, one of the twelve sacred hills of Imerina, is associated with strong feelings of national identity and has maintained its spiritual and sacred character both in ritual practice and the popular imagination for at least four hundred years. It remains a place of worship to which pilgrims come from Madagascar and elsewhere.

Approximately 3 three weeks after surgery on the lip and pallet.

Built in 326 AD and expanded to something approximating its present size primarily in the 500s AD, with further additions over the subsequent millennium, this historic Byzantine-style Basilica is known as Panagia Ekatontapiliani, Panagia Katapoliani, or the Holy Shrine of the Virgin Mary Ekatontapyliani. The church is one of the best preserved Roman-era basilicas, having served as a church for most of its history. The church’s name means “The Church With 100 Gates,” though this is believed by experts to be a corruption of a term meaning “Lower Town Church,” which sounds similar, and could easily have been unintentionally altered after more than a millennium of existence. The cathedral consists of a main church structure, which dates back to 326AD, which is attached to a baptistery, which stands to the south. To the west and northwest of the church is a two-story U-shaped structure, which houses living quarters, offices, and a museum, as well as a pair of campaniles atop the roof flanking the main entrance portal. The main church is cruciform in shape, with marble walls, a red terra cotta tile roof, roman arched bays, a front portico with arched openings, an octagonal lantern below a dome, a semi-circular apse, and two smaller chapels that stand to the northeast of the church. To the south is a smaller baptistery, with a similar exterior treatment to the main church, with a marble exterior and red terra cotta tile roof, as well as an octagonal drum and dome, with the baptistery being lower in height than the main church. Inside, the church features remnants of the original Byzantine mosaic floor and murals, with over a millennium of earthquakes, interior alterations, and weathering having destroyed most of the original decorations, leaving behind stone walls, vaulted stone ceilings, stone floors, and stone columns. The U-shaped structure to the east and northeast, which is much newer, is clad in limewashed stucco, with marble trim, doric pilasters, wrought iron gates, and a one-story arcade around the perimeter of the courtyard with arches supported on cylindrical stone columns. The rest of the churchyard is enclosed by a high limewashed wall with a gate to the north of the church, with the courtyard being home to ancient stone monuments and relics from the church’s long history. The church underwent a major restoration between 1959 and 1966, which removed the stucco cladding from the oldest portions of the church complex, and revealed the remaining Byzantine-era decorative elements. Today, the church remains in use as a Greek Orthodox Cathedral, and is a major historical site on the island of Paros, being one of the oldest purpose-built churches still in use in the world.

April 17, 2010. Boston, MA.

Approximately 1,500 Massachusetts taxpayers marched through Boston’s Financial District Tuesday, Tax Day, to demand major corporations and the wealthiest 1% pay their fair share to fund local communities.

The march went past what organizers believe to be most egregious corporate tax dodgers General Electric, State Street, Bank of America, Fidelity, Verizon and Wells Fargo. Demonstrators presented the corporations with overdue bills for billions in unpaid tax subsidies, handing the invoices to masked “corporate pigs” bearing the logos of offending corporations. Advocates called for a new, fairer tax system where tax dollars are not spent on unnecessary wars and corporate welfare, but instead invested in the vital job creation, healthcare, transit and education programs that keep communities healthy and sustainable.

More than 30 community, labor and peace groups joined together for the #99TaxDay of action – including MASSUNITING, Right to the City, City Life/Vida Urbana, Massachusetts AFL-CIO, MoveOn.org and OccupyBoston. The diverse coalition was prompted to action by a new report from the non-partisan Institute on Taxation & Economic Policy and Citizens for Tax Justice, which reveals that many Bay State corporations are amongst the worst tax dodgers in America And consequently have drained millions from the Massachusetts economy forcing mass layoffs, slashing vital services, and closing schools and community centers.

HEAD MOLD: "Marie-Grace"

PERSONAL FUN FACT: When I first saw Marie-Grace in the AG catalogue, I thought something looked oddly different about her. I did not know it at the time, but Marie-Grace's strange appearance was due to her unique head mold. As far as I know, no other doll has ever used this mold, except Marie-Grace. This makes her a popular doll to use for customization projects. It's a little sad in my opinion that so many people value this doll's head mold for projects, but so few enjoy her just for being Marie-Grace. I used to find her jarring to look at, and I'll admit that she does still stand out compared to other American Girl dolls. But I don't find her uniqueness "ugly" anymore. On the contrary, Marie-Grace is a stunning beauty, and I love that American Girl gave her a special mold. It's also interesting because all the feedback I've gotten from non-American Girl collectors has been positive about Marie-Grace. I've heard time and time again that people usually think American Girl dolls are ugly, but that Marie-Grace is the only doll they've ever found attractive. And I think that this might be because of her head mold. Unlike the other chubby faced molds, Marie-Grace has a pointy chin, and narrow face. This gives her a more natural looking face, and she also is shorter than the other dolls since her head seems smaller overall. While I adore the traditional chubby faces of the other American Girls, I really admire Marie-Grace for standing out. And what's not to love about her beautiful grey eyes?!!!

I recently came across a large box of old postcards whilst sorting out family papers. At first I was just interested in the pictures but then the words came to take on a new meaning. They are, of course, the email or text message of the day. Most refer to the journey, the weather and what has been happening. Many are sent by/to people I do not know and are perhaps long departed.

I hope you find them as interesting as I did.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I took a little bit of a gamble when I purchased my Kavi off of Mercari. The seller didn't feature all that many photos of the doll, nor her original outfit. The description didn't specify whether or not she still had her underwear. But since Kavi was basically new and hardly ever even displayed, I figured the likely hood that she still had her undies was high. Plus, these are the same cheaply made pink ones that American Girl has been using the past few years. Even if Miss Sharma had been missing them, I have a few cuter spare pairs of skivvies tucked away. It turns out Kavi was still wearing them, and her original book was also included (it had not been pictured in the listing). Anyways, I really adore this outfit. It's very Generation Girl Mari, circa the late 90s/early 2000s. That era is currently quite trendy fashion wise, so I'm not surprised that Kavi's ensemble mirrors it. I really love the top--it has a super cool watercolor-esque design. The material is very thin, since it is mesh, but it is VERY soft. I can tell it is great quality, just delicate. As a kid, it would have been hard to keep such a top in pristine condition though, because the velcro closure would easily tear into it. The pants are quite simple in construction--silver cargo pants. This reminds me a little of Marisol Luna's "meet" getup (she had shiny cargo pants, but they were shorter). These shoes are fabulous--I love canvas sneakers. I have always worn them myself since I was about eight, so it's so fun having them for my dolls. I especially think the bright plum color is unique.
