The new Ford GT is said to be the most advanced vehicle ever created by Ford. And it will have a limited production: only 250 units a year. This is the sort of car you do not choose to buy: you hope to be able to. Not only due to price, but also to exclusivity (being a Ford does not make it...

The 'mobile internet'- ie accessing the internet from a phone, as opposed to a PDA or laptop- is very different to the 'traditional', browser-centric internet. I'm a heavy mobile data user (it goes with the territory, use what you analyse...) and I'm finding that applications- particularly web 2.0 apps like RSS- are much more useful on a phone than browsers. Apps either make life easier (RSS means I don't browse as much to find what's changed) or enhance what I'm doing (location tagging via zonetag) or are simply cool (changing phone wallpapers via pulsepaper).

So, in the 'what's in my bag' theme, here's a quick 'what's on my phone'. These are all running in the background most of the time, but I also use Lifeblogger (for retrospecive flickr uploads with better textual content but no geotags) and Google maps (excellent).

These are all beta releases, and fairly data hungry, so you'll need an unlimited data plan (like this one from my employer ;+) [other suppliers are available, but not many have unlimited data]

Shameless plug- if you like the look of widesets (and I'd highly recommend it) please drop me a message so I can reccomend you- they're running a competition for a Nokia N93 and my N70 is getting a bit tired and needs replacing)

This new app is so silly I had to share!

Sandro Stefanelli is one of the guys behind it and a friend, the same crew behind Talking Carl!

Enjoy my sillyness!

Del eclipse qui advint a la mort de nostre seigneur

This manuscript is one of the three known fifteenth-century copies of a rare vernacular cosmography composed in verse under the title "Image du Monde" (The Mirror of the World) in Lorraine dialect in 1245-46. The manuscript provides descriptions of the seven liberal arts along with astronomical theories especially about the earth, the creatures that inhabit it, and its movements within the universe. Each one of the liberal arts is illustrated with a small miniature in grisaille, and extraordinary geometric astronomical diagrams recur throughout the book. The importance of W.199 is both textual and pictorial. Illuminated by followers of Willem Vrelant, active in Bruges 1454-1481, the manuscript reveals affinity of format and content with a 1464 copy of the Mirror of the World made in Bruges (London, British Library, Royal 19 A.IX).

Strange tag on a wall... I do not think anybody i the US would write "I love you 7-11" on his door house!

Formerly a British colony, Somaliland briefly reached its independence in 1960. It is one of the three Territories, with Puntland and former Italian Somalia that compose the current State of Somalia.

Somaliland proclaimed its independence in 1991, adopting its own currency, a fully independent government, working institutions and police. The authorities organized a referendum in 2001, advocating once again for full independence. However, to date, it is not internationally recognized.

Ethiopian Prime minister Meles Zenawi is the only one to speak about a Somalilander president, recognizing implicitly the existence of an independent State. Indeed the economy of neighboring Ethiopia dramatically depends on Somaliland stability, since the landlocked country’s main trade route passes through the Somalilander port of Berbera… And vice-versa, the economy of Somaliland largely depends on the taxes and duties it charges Ethiopia. Besides that, the principal economic activity of Somaliland is livestock exportation to the Arabian Peninsula. Most people are Sunni Muslims and speak Arabic, as well as some Somali dialect and many of them, English.Lastely, the East African demography being based on clan alliances, it is no surprise that the frontiers drawn by the colonists don’t match the ethnic divisions of territory, leading to open clashes. More broadly, this problem is recurrent across the African continent.

Application Polyester Armé de Liège

Founded by glassfibre specialist, Edmond Pery, the Belgian manufacturer APAL (Application Polyester Armé de Liège) started producing cars in 1961 and is mainly known for its beach buggies and Porsche Speedster replicas. APAL's first model was a coupé inspired by the 1959 Porsche Carrera Abarth and built on a Volkswagen 'Beetle' chassis, 150 examples of which were produced between 1961 and 1965. Most also used the VW powertrain but this particular car is one of only 30 which were equipped with original Porsche mechanicals - engine, gearbox, wheels, brakes - and other items such as the seats and dashboard instruments. The Apal coupés enjoyed success in racing and rallying, and in the Liège-Sofia-Liège Rally proved faster than the contemporary Porsches thanks to their much lower weight.

This example was built in 1963 using a 1957 VW chassis and has a 1,600cc 90bhp Porsche 356 engine (type 616/7). The APAL has had only two registered owners from new, the first being a Mr Quoibion from Liège, the city where it was made. The car is in original condition part from the engine, which is newly rebuilt, and the interior, which has new carpets, while the electrical system has been up-graded to 12 volts. It should be noted that the car has been driven only some 250 kilometres since the engine was rebuilt and is still running in. There are invoices on file totalling some €28,000, of which €25,000 relates to the engine work. Accompanying paperwork consists of a French Carte Grise de Collection, a photographic record of the engine rebuild, some service history, and original APAL documentation. This rare piece of automotive history is a 'must have' for the serious Porsche collector.

STROBIST:

One TTL flash, tethered via an TTL cable (10 meters, for Canon, from Yongnuo).

I tried two new light formers here:

1. Traveller8: not my cup of tea (spot too small, light too hard, needs a lot of tape for fixation -- the rubber band does not hold the tool on my flash)

2. Lastolite Mini brolly, 50 cm diameter: works, the shot above was shot with that tool

www.amazon.de/gp/product/B004TB0NGM/ref=oh_details_o01_s0...

But any other brolly could do the same or better...

An example for a larger brolly, which can be collapsed and which I like better:

And if I really go on a journey I use a white microbrella (for the rain) with some gaffer tape (for the flash). :-()

This is a shot of an old version of Anxiety, a dashboard widget running through Amnesty Singles that works as a simple to do list. However, I've since abandoned this version, in favor of a sleeker 100% cocoa application, which syncs with iCal and Mail; pictures of the newer version can be found in my flickr photos.

This is my current application folder. :)
