Chromolithographic patterns from La Plante et ses Applications Ornementales (1896) by Maurice Pillard Verneuil (1869–1942), French artist and decorator in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movement. Verneuil studied and developed his style from Eugène Grasset, a Franco-Swiss pioneer of Art Nouveau design. Inspired by Japanese art, nature and particularly the sea. He is known for his contributions to the Art Deco movement through the use of bold floral designs on ceramic tiles, wallpapers, textiles, and posters. The one-off Arriva London Wright Streetdeck HEV96 HW100 at London Bridge Station working route 141 from Palmers Green garage on 6th July 2019.
If I understand correctly this vehicle is an enhanced micro hybrid with twin electric generators ahead of the rear wheels connected to supercapacitor energy storage.
The only obvious external differences from the Arriva SW-type Streetdeck diesels are a grille in the skirt panel behind the offside front wheel, hinged access panels either side ahead of the rear wheels and a master switch behind the offside rear wheel.
The bus was numbered HW1 before entry into service but renumbered to avoid any confusion with the previous HW1, withdrawn in 2014. You can actually see where the number "1" was after the HW letters. This explains the odd two-line application of the fleetnumber since there was not enough space to add "00" after "1" on the panel.

Soyuz VS16 was transferred from the preparation building MIK to the Soyuz launch zone of the Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana, on 24 January 2017.
The vehicle was rolled out horizontally on its erector from the MIK to the launch zone and then raised into the vertical position.
Soyuz VS16 will lift off in the early hours of 28 January (CET). The rocket will carry Hispasat 36W-1 satellite which will be the first satellite to use the SmallGEO platform.
SmallGEO is a multipurpose satellite platform capable of accommodating a wide range of commercial telecommunications payloads and missions, from TV broadcasting to multimedia applications, Internet access and mobile or fixed services in a wide range of frequency bands.
Its new, modular and flexible design boosts European industry’s ability to play a significant role in commercial satcoms by easing entry into the lower-mass telecom satellite market. It was developed by Germany's OHB System AG under ESA's ARTES Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems programme.
Hispasat's Hispasat 36W-1 will be the first satellite to use the SmallGEO platform, marking the first partnership between ESA and a Spanish operator.
H36W-1 will provide Europe, the Canary Islands and South America with faster multimedia services through its Redsat payload, which offers better signal quality and flexible land coverage. Redsat enables H36W-1 to provide advanced connectivity services based on the latest communication standards.

(Wikipedia: Schanigarten is the Austro-Bavarian term for tables and chairs set up on the sidewalk in front of eating and drinking places. Unlike normal beer gardens (Gastgärten), the customers actually sit on public property. Originally, Schanigärten (pl.) referred only to Viennese coffee houses, but now the expression is used in other parts of Austria and for other types of establishments like restaurants and taverns)

The Café Landtmann in Vienna is a typical Viennese coffee house in the Ringstrasse style. It is located in the first District at the University Ring 4, corner Löwelstraße 22, and is known throughout the city.
Location
The cafe is located on the ground floor of the Palais Lieben-Auspitz called Mietwohnhauses (apartment building), in the immediate vicinity of the Burgtheater, the University of Vienna and the party headquarters of the Social Democrats and close to the Vienna City Hall with the City Hall Park, the Federal Chancellery and three ministries. The café is therefore frequented by, among other actors, politicians, civil servants and journalists and is the venue for press conferences.
History
The coffee was on 1 October 1873 of the Cafétier (café owner) Landtmann as "Vienna 's most elegant and largest café-localities" in a prominent, 1872 built corner house at the at the time also new Franzensring (so to 1919 the address of this part of Vienna's Ringstrasse) opened. The ring road was indeed opened by emperor Franz Joseph I in 1865, but still long not completed in the area of the coffee house: The city hall was under construction since 1872, but was only opened in 1883. The university main building was built 1877-1884, the Burgtheater from 1874 to 1888. The coffee was thus in his early years surrounded mainly by large construction sites.
1881 sold Landtmann his coffeehouse to the brothers Wilhelm and Rudolf Kerrl who continued it under the name Landtmann and extended it in the direction of Oppolzergasse. Rudolf soon retired from active business life, Wilhelm Kerrl led on the café alone until 1916 and then sold it, worn down by the economy of scarcity of the First World War, to Karl Anton Kraus, previously a butcher and innkeeper. He led the coffee for only five years, because in 1921 it was operated by a Hokare Ges.mbH (unlimited company) (the name stands for hotel, coffee and restoration companies). This company had to be liquidated 1925/1926.
The Café Landtmann was now bought in the fall of 1926 by Mr. and Mrs. Conrad and Angela Zauner. The new owners had it in 1929 after a design by Ernst Meller, experienced in the establishment of coffee houses, fully restored: with the preserved to this day interior which is under preservation order. Particularly striking are four wooden pillars at the entrance, which were created by Hans Scheibner and their decoration representing premiere scenes of the Burgtheater. With this elaborate interior design Landtmann consolidated its position as the most elegant café in town. In 1949, Konrad Zauner's son Erwin took the management of the café and led it on with great success.
In 1974 the company received the National Award and since then it is allowed to use the Federal coat of arms in commercial transactions. In 1976, the present owner family took the local and renovated it in 1980 again.
In the café was Robert Böck, on duty only called Mr. Robert, working for 28 years, many years as head waiter in a tuxedo, and he knew all the important guests personally. On his last working day, on 23 December 2003, many celebrities came to his departure from the cafe. Mayor Michael Häupl served Mr. Robert, who had so often served him a "little brown". To this end, he handed him the "Golden Rathausmann" "for the most famous, most discreet and most accommodating waiter of Vienna".

Details
Small stage
In the basement below the coffee was after Czeike already 1936-1938 the Cabaret 'Merry Landtmann" for the dancer Cilli Wang set up by her husband. 1953 in the basement the small stage "The Tribune" was established (since 2002: "The new stand", directed by Karl Heinz Wukow). It is one of the numerous small Viennese theaters that operate with modest public support and which offer authors, actors and directors fields of application.
Winter Garden
2007 was built a conservatory on the facade towards the castle theater, designed by Manfred Wehdorn by 1.5 million euros (Bernd Querfeld). With 87 square meters and 29 tables, the conservatory is almost as spacious as the great hall of the café; thus the capacity of the premises has been extended by a quarter.
Landtmann's Bel-Etage
2012 were opened above the café three function rooms, which are referred to as "Landtmann's Bel-Etage". One of the rooms is named after Berta Zuckerkandl, which in the house (entrance Oppolzergasse 6) from 1917 to 1938 run her famous salon, meeting place of artists, scientists and politicians.
Price of water
2013 got the coffee into media because guests who instead of ordering other beverages only want drink tap water this service no longer receive free. The scheme has been criticized partly violently. The glass of water for ordered coffee, as it corresponds to the Viennese coffee house tradition, still is served free.
Miscellaneous
In the Café Landtmann are according to indications of the owner family on average held 2.8 press conferences per day.
Since 2003, the café is every summer venue of the coffee house theater ink & coffee.
In March 2009, was opened in Tokyo in the central district of Minato-ku, in fact, in the district Kitaaoyama in the Aoyama Street, a "Café Landtmann" called local opened.
Guests
The coffee house was according to Czeike visited, among others, by the artists Attila Hörbiger, Paul Hörbiger, Oskar Kokoschka, Hans Moser, Max Reinhardt, Oskar Werner and Paula Wessely. Among the politicians he names Julius German, Robert Dannenberg and Karl Seitz, who were part of the "Red Vienna", and in the postwar period the then very popular Chancellor Julius Raab. Gustav Mahler was encountering here with Karl Goldmark, Gary Cooper and Marlene Dietrich were among the "by-trotting" guests, the authors Jura Soyfer, Felix Salten, Thomas Mann and John Boynton Priestley also frequented the Landtmann. The owners themselves mention over and above Peter Altenberg, Sigmund Freud, Emmerich Kálmán, Curd Jürgens, Otto Preminger and Romy Schneider as regulars.

Summersome ward. A cancer ward. I had an isolation room. I had been staring out of the window for what seemed like hours. I had been a patient here for so many days now that I had lost count. The rain was falling lightly on the windows, that fluffy rain that anyone with long hair dreads as it turns the hair frizzy. Not heavy enough to really warrant an umbrella, just a misery to endure if caught out in it. In short; a pain in the arse.
There was a quiet knock on my door and it was gently pushed open and in walked one of the ward doctors. I hadn’t spoken to him before but had seen him doing the rounds on the open wards. From what I understood he was the senior doctor. He lifted my notes from the bottom of the bed and read them, turning over each sheet and studying it. Glancing up at me every now and then and smiling before returning to the reading. He was a kind looking man, tall and thin with combed back jet black hair. His medical coat white and crisp, a single pen in the breast pocket.
“Good afternoon Jack, you won’t remember me from seeing you in critical care. I’m Dr Crusic, I’m the senior doctor on these wards. How are you feeling?”
I was always cautious of anyone introducing themselves with ‘you won’t remember me but…’. This was normally my subconscious warning me that the following experience was simply a morphine induced fantasy, an hallucination normally so real you could reach out to touch the people. Of course, you were never given the chance so the illusion remained.
“I’m okay I think. No real pain, still can’t sleep at night but that’s down to missing my duvet and the noises. How are you?” I asked.
He looked up from reading and smiled, replacing the notes on the bar of the bed, he slowly walked over to the chair in my room.
“I am very well thank you for asking, do you mind if I sit down?”
“I don’t mind at all please do” I gestured towards the chair with my open hand.
He sat down, opened his mouth to speak and then paused before leaning towards me, hands clasped in front of him. In my business we call this foreshadowing. Despite his friendly, calm demeanour I was getting an uncomfortable feeling.
“Jack, you have responded really well to the chemotherapy so far. The diabetes issues I am working closely with the hospital team to find the best solution for you. We need to determine whether you are type one or type two. It’s still unclear” he explained.
His head was cocked slightly to the side, a warming smile as he unclasped his fingers and brought them up to his chest as if praying.
I nodded to him that I understood what he was telling me and returning his smile.
“I don’t want to be unkind but I want to inform you so you understand what I am going to tell you based on the tests we have done. Do you understand?” he asked.
I slowly nodded to him. I felt cold again. Scared again.
“The recent scan has shown that the cancer hasn’t spread, or grown bigger. This is good news. However we have been monitoring your heart and we have recorded irregularities. We have grave concerns about this” he said shifting in the seat and leaning forward. Hands now clasped and rested on his knees. “Do you understand me Jack?” he added.
I nodded. “From what I can determine, and reading between the lines, my cancer will eventually kill me but my heart will stop way before then?” I replied.
Dr Crusic nodded back at me, there was a genuine sadness in his eyes. Or maybe it was merely a reflection of my own. We sat there in silence for minutes.
“We have an excellent counsellor here on Summersome, if you feel that you need to talk someone about this Jack, I can heartily recommend her. She will be able to help you. Would you like me to ask her to stop by tomorrow morning?” he asked standing up and making his way to the door.
He stopped at the open doorway and looked at me waiting for a reply.
“Yes, I would like you to do that please. Can I ask you something before you go?” I asked.
“Sure, how can I help?” he said closing the door and sitting back down opposite me.
“I’ve had…very vivid hallucinations in the past, mostly induced by the morphine. Are we having this conversation real world or are you, everything right now nothing more than an hallucination?”
Again, there was a sadness in his eyes. It was definitely there but of course if this was another illusion of mine then it was nothing more than something I had created.
“Jack, I understand why you would ask a question such as this. It is hard to comprehend or accept ones own passing, far easier for you to think that this conversation never happened. Dr Hardy, our counsellor would be able to help you with this and many other emotions and questions that you may have now and in the days ahead. I really think you should speak with her” he replied.
I nodded to him, didn’t feel anything else needed to be said.
“Is there anything else I can help with or get you before I go Jack?”
“No thank you doctor, I’m okay I think” I replied.
“I will check back on you in three days time, it was good to meet you Jack. Of course, should you need anything make sure to ring your room bell and one of the nurses will be right with you. Good bye” he said. Then he was gone the door slowly closing behind him.
I returned to looking out of the window, the rain was now much heavier and drumming against the windows. Rivulets of silvery beads battering the glass then finally falling away leaving no wake. I resumed my music application on my laptop, Visage Fade to Grey started playing quietly.
Another knock at my door and the nurse cheerfully asking to take my vitals. Blood pressure, a device they put over my finger, still not sure what that measures. Then the prick test. She asks me which finger and I hold my ring finger to her. Sharp pain and then she’s saying goodbye and out of the door.
Laying back on the bed and pulling the blankets over me, I was lost in my thoughts and closed my eyes. I felt a slight pressure on my shoulder, opening my eyes there was a nurse standing over me. Still very much drowsy I offered my arm to her.
“Jack it’s okay I’m Dr Hardy, I’m a counsellor. Dr Crusic asked me to stop in to see you before I left as he was concerned.”
She was leaning slightly towards me smiling. She continued to rest her hand on my shoulder, reassuring me. Dish water blonde tied up, down I imagined scrambled yellow hair cascading over her shoulders. She had tattoos down her arms, her ears pierced several times with hoops and studs. She had grey green eyes, not cold though. Petite but not a waif. I would guess she was late twenties, possibly a youthful early thirties. She had an energy to her, one that I could well imagine would be contagious.
“I wanted to introduce myself and ask whether I could have a chat with you tomorrow at eleven o’clock?” she asked.
This felt like a real experience, that she was really there. However I have been greatly deceived by my mind before as I have mentioned.
Another knock at the door and the nurse came in again cheerfully announcing it was time to check the vitals. I asked her that she had only just done that hadn’t she, I mean it felt like only fifteen minutes since I had last seen her.
“Oh bless you, two hours ago Jack, you had fallen asleep” the nurse replied as she wrapped the sleeve around my arm.
Turning to Dr Hardy, “that’s fine doctor, eleven o’clock tomorrow is perfect for me. As you can see I have busy schedule here each day but I’m sure my eleven slot is clear” I said jokingly.
“It’s a date, I will leave you with Claire and I will see you at eleven. Good bye Jack”. Dr Hardy left the room, pausing at the door to glance back at me and smile.
Nurse Claire had been talking to me but I hadn’t heard a word of it.
“Sorry Claire, I was miles away, what did you say?”
“My son listens to this band, he used to play this song all time when he was a teenager. Lovestruck teenager” she said raising her eyebrows and sighing.
“It’s Marillion and the song is Cinderella Search” I said.
“Yes of course, Marillion. I remember now. He would sit up in his room listening to this song endlessly.” She pauses for a moment. “Vitals are all good Jack, it will be Chloe taking over for the night checks. Have a good evening” and with that she was out of the door.
“Welcome to the Circus” I said to myself and went back to staring out of the window. Neither one of us (wants to be the first to say goodbye) drifted lazily around the room. I pulled the blankets up to my chin and closed my eyes. I could hear the rain pelting the windows once more, it was going to be a long night.
The room went silent. Shouting from somewhere on the ward startled me. The toilet opposite my room flushed. The noise of a drip trolley gliding over the tiled floor. The heavy footfall of someone in the corridor. Screaming. The incessant beating of the rain against the windows. The thunderous sound of a crash trolley being wheeled outside in the corridor. The screaming came to an abrupt halt. The sound of something metallic hitting the floor. I pulled the blankets tighter around me.

I think you can never built in too many styles. This was really just a tablescrap I built around the weird track the barrel runs in to adjust elevation. It's probably impractical for any application more serious than this one, but I like stuff like that anyway. Plus, it's been ages since I built a tank.

This is an illuminated and illustrated copy of the Ḫamse (quintet) of the Ottoman Turkish poet and scholar ʿAṭāʾullāh bin Yaḥyá ʿAṭāʾī (d. 1044 AH / 1634 CE). Although different in content, this work takes its inspiration from the famous Persian Khamsah of Niẓāmī Ganjavī (d. 605 AH / 1209 CE) and the Khamsah of Amīr Khusraw Dihlavī (d. 725 AH / 1325 CE). This Ottoman copy of ʿAṭāʾī's work ends with a portion of his Dīvān (fols. 142b-151b) instead of the fifth poem (mesnevi), Ḥilyet ül-efkār. The text, written in nastaʿlīq script, was copied by Ḫeyrullah Ḫeyrī Çāvuşzade in 1133 AH / 1721 CE. There are thirty-eight illustrations, and illuminated incipits introduce the different poems (fols. 1b, 22b, 63b, 107b, and 142b). The brown leather binding is original to the manuscript.
This illustration depicts the Ottoman fleet, led by Hüseyn Paşa, setting out from the Black Sea against the Polish army.

This is a closeup from the same series I posted from last night. This time I used a program for toning the image to imitate a black and white selenium toned print.. then pulled back the effect quite a bit, before removing the effect totally in the middle section and the top seeds, using a large sized application of Photoshop's Art History brush. You can still see the desaturated look of the toning around the edges, which helps the fully colorful middle feel all the richer and alive.
#725: As of 1/16/19, under Flickr's popularity rankings of my 1400+ pics, this is listed as #725 in "interestingness."
This is the 20th in a new series of pics displaying image transformations made by the smartphone application, FaceApp. See my profile description (or "About" page here: www.flickr.com/people/99244229@N04/) for details about this new series of pics, including my thoughts about the feminized images of myself.
I'm now only posting the FaceApp-generated femme pic, leaving out the "before" and including just the "after". This is partly to be more concise, since my original CD pics have been posted here before. In this pic and many that will follow, you can see the little FaceApp female icon in the lower-left, indicating this is a feminization transformation pic. (In many pics to be posted later on, I have cropped down or out that icon, when doing so doesn't compromise the whole pic too much.)
This particular FaceApp transformation is of a pic from Halloween 1995, which entailed my 4th professional makeover (probably my best to that point). The original pic has been previously posted here on Flickr in full-body view.
I really like my more feminized facial appearance from FA here, and of course wish I'd been this cute/pretty in reality that day. However, I was very thrilled to just be crossdressed in oublic at all, and to be photographed -- and I felt as pretty as this transformation image depicts...

"Mortgage applications rebound 5.8%, as interest rates ease off recent highs - CNBC" t.co/34AXolWbSZ (via Twitter twitter.com/downpaymentaz/status/819157482555719681)
This is an album (muraqqaʿ) of Persian and Indian calligraphy and paintings, most probably compiled in the thirteenth century AH / nineteenth CE. The album contains thirty-four illustrations, three of which are attributed to the Mughal painter Abū al-Ḥasan (Nādir al-al-Zamān), two to Manūhar, and one each to Dawlat and Ṣādiqī. There are several portraits of rulers and courtiers, as well as scenes from historical manuscripts, such as Bāburnāmah and Gulistān by Saʿdī. This album is also significant for the number of works by the artist Shayk Abbāsī, who worked in the eleventh century AH / seventeenth CE. The signed calligraphic pieces bear the names of ʿImād al-Ḥasanī (d. 1024 AH / 1615 CE), ʿAlī Riz̤ā-ʾi ʿAbbāsī, Mīr ʿAlī, and ʿAbd al-Rashīd al-Daylamī (d. 1081 AH / 1670-1 CE). The album was initially in an accordion format and was later made into a codex. The lacquer binding with central ovals and pendants decorated with flowers dates to the thirteenth century AH / nineteenth CE.

Strange tag on a wall... I do not think anybody i the US would write "I love you 7-11" on his door house!
Formerly a British colony, Somaliland briefly reached its independence in 1960. It is one of the three Territories, with Puntland and former Italian Somalia that compose the current State of Somalia.
Somaliland proclaimed its independence in 1991, adopting its own currency, a fully independent government, working institutions and police. The authorities organized a referendum in 2001, advocating once again for full independence. However, to date, it is not internationally recognized.
Ethiopian Prime minister Meles Zenawi is the only one to speak about a Somalilander president, recognizing implicitly the existence of an independent State. Indeed the economy of neighboring Ethiopia dramatically depends on Somaliland stability, since the landlocked country’s main trade route passes through the Somalilander port of Berbera… And vice-versa, the economy of Somaliland largely depends on the taxes and duties it charges Ethiopia. Besides that, the principal economic activity of Somaliland is livestock exportation to the Arabian Peninsula. Most people are Sunni Muslims and speak Arabic, as well as some Somali dialect and many of them, English.Lastely, the East African demography being based on clan alliances, it is no surprise that the frontiers drawn by the colonists don’t match the ethnic divisions of territory, leading to open clashes. More broadly, this problem is recurrent across the African continent.

This project is made for designers that cannot afford/are not invited to events, but also for designers that join events but want to focus the attention in their mainstores too.
The initiative will start in March.
