Each work appropriates the format of traditional transmissions that rely on or otherwise incorporate video in the new millennium and uses these structure to question how we consume information in the digital age.

“HALKA/HAITI 18°48’05″N 72°23’01″W,” by C.T. Jasper and Joanna Malinowska features a Polish opera being performed on a Haitian street. The depicted Haitian community has Polish heritage, but little else is shared between the classic opera setting and the setting of this film. As motorcycles drive past and goats mingle in the streets, the opera that the performers sing is just as captivating, if not more so, than a traditional opera hall performance.

The camera in this film does not move, allowing the raw emotions of the scene to take center stage. The organic nature of the filmed audience is equally as important as the opera itself, as it brings a level of humanity to a typically elite art form.

Scammed

Today I was victim to an Internet scammer. Someone acting as a very flirty 28 year old girl in Findley, Oh blackmailed me and extorted $100 from me in the form of this iTunes gift card.

After asking me for a nude picture on Instagram I requested we move the conversation to Google Hangouts (usually the scammer's suggestion) and sent a couple inappropriate pictures (not nude). Jacqueline Sandoval (scammer) gave me two different Google Hangouts profiles: one "she" sent an invite from and a different email given to me on Instagram. After she insisted on me using the Instagram provided email the 30 minute threat began. If I did not want her to send the pictures and details of our conversations to my wife, I was to go to the store and get a $100 Steam Wallet Gift Card. This was at least the second time she had requested a Steam Wallet Gift Card. I immediately freaked out. If my wife were to see any of the conversation or pictures I sent, my marriage would be over. Target was the only place I could think of that would have a Steam Wallet gift card and I could use my debt consolidation (0% interest) visa to get it. When I got to Target I could not find a Steam Wallet gift card. Since we were on Google Hangouts I was able to pull up the conversation and explain that they did not have the card she wanted. She then said iTunes or Amazon. They only had iTunes so that is what I got. I took pictures of the front of the card, the back of the card with the code exposed, and the receipt as instructed. In the car I sent all of the pictures and asked them to please stop and leave me alone. They said wait and they would get back to me.

When I got home there were more messages from them now asking for a $200 iTunes card or they would contact my wife. I further explained that I have no money so I took screen shots of the profiles, then deleted and reported the conversations on Instagram, I blocked the profiles on Google Hangouts, and then I reported as much of the information as possible to the FTC.

I hope to hell that Julie does not find out about this and it is behind me.

Working From Home

I am watching "Ruby Ridge" on Netflix. How did I miss this when it happened? Oh yea, I was in college and raising a daughter and working third shift and managing two stepchildren, a wife, a cat, a dog, and a house.

“Ooh I’m up with the kites and I dream so blue

I live in the sky, you can live here too.

I’m queen of the clouds, make my wish come true.

I sing to the night, let me sing to you.”

Going to finish out the year with some Instagram Stories and Hipstamatic shots from my phone.

This openwork bronze plaque depicts a tiger walking off with a mule hanging from its mouth.

Such spirited and vibrant depictions of wild animals are closely associated with the culture and art of the Eurasian Steppe, including the Ordos region in northern Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia.

This plaque displays the Qin appropriation of art forms from their nomadic neighbors.

Cavalry Horse ―In the pits, each cavalry horse is paired with an armored cavalryman.

This earthenware example is meticulously detailed to include tacks, tassels, girth straps, buckles, and a blanket, and its bridle components and reins are detachable pieces made of bronze or carved stone.

Terracotta horses were assembled from the legs up, and the large hole in this example's abdomen provided ventilation while it was fired in a massive imperial kiln.

Cavalryman ―This earthenware cavalryman figure is portrayed with a small and sturdy build, wearing a pleated robe, trousers, a hide skull cap, and high-waisted, sleeveless armor.

Cavalrymen were tasked with reconnaissance and both short- and long-range combat on horseback; therefore, their robes and armor were short and fitted to allow for extensive movement, pivoting, and versatility.

With both arms at his sides, he once held a crossbow and the reins of his terracotta horse.

“I wonder why I don't go to bed and go to sleep. But then it would be tomorrow, so I decide that no matter how tired, no matter how incoherent I am, I can skip one hour more of sleep and live.” ―Sylvia Plath, The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath

Woodshedding Bass

I am working on songs for tomorrow's Jon Anthony & Wishful Drinking gig at Last Call. I haven't played his songs on bass since March 12th.

The action on the Stingray bass was super low and buzzy a couple days ago so I had been letting the bass reaclimate upstairs in my room. I also loosened the truss rod about a quarter turn. As a result it plays great again!

No. 1 of 2 bronze chariots ―It is the vanguard; a two-wheeled vehicle drawn by a team of four strong horses. There is only one seat for the driver, whose eyes are glued to the road ahead. There is a large umbrella providing shade from the sun.

A half size scale-model of real chariots and horses, faithfully copied down to the last detail, complete with horses and people, it is constructed with bronze and cast bullion, with a four-horse team.

Originally buried 20 meters west of the Emperor's mausoleum, two chariots faced west in large 7-meter-long (23 feet in length) and 2.3 meters wide (7.54 feet in width) wooden coffins. They were thought to be half the actual size and were supposed to serve as the vehicle for the emperor's inspection tours in his afterlife.
