This is a 3 unit efficiency apartment building, also one of my foamcore creations. It has two 2 bedroom units and the top floor is a single bedroom, but it boasts a larger porch and double french doors.

Something about the light at dusk, it can make a boring apartment building look like a million bucks.

I drive by these buildings all the time and never take a second look, but look at them now. They're kind of attractive, now that I see them. My Instagram tagline is, "through photography, I see." I guess this is proof of that.

I used a one-second exposure for the water on the bottom half which evens out the ripples. Usually, I use photoshop to get a similar effect but in this case, its straight out of camera (or SOOC as we say in the biz). I took this from a dock while walking my dog recently. He likes to come out here and survey the scene and sometimes I'll bring my camera. So it was, in fact, Mr. Wiggles who selected this scene. I should probably change my tagline to, "through my dog, I see."

Once again I find myself enjoying my apartment while avoiding the frigid temps outside!

Against the backdrop of a black tower, an apartment building reflects the urban environment

Since I spent a day in San Francisco last week, you can expect a group of architecture and street and similar photographs over the next few day, possibly intermixed with landscapes and nature for a few weeks!. I was there to see a particular installation at SFMOMA, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. I always take my camera, partly to photograph people at the museum, partly to photograph the building itself, and partly to take advantage of photographing the surrounding neighborhoods, especially from elevated vantage points at the museum.

The recent expansion of the museum added a new wing at the rear, with seven floors of exhibits and other services. (And, as I realized on this visit, several more floors above that which appear to be inaccessible to the public, unfortunately.) Several outdoor terraces and balconies provide interesting overlooks above the surrounding urban scene, and during my visit the light was very interesting, too — ranging from cloudy and rainy to occasionally clear, but often with at least some clouds softening the light. I'm fascinated by the juxtapositions of form and color in the dense field of surrounding buildings, including the contrast between light tones and reflection of the building on the right versus the dark, slick, and vaguely ominous black of the further building.

The apartment in which I stayed for five days is in the middle. Right along the Danube. Couldn't be any better than this!

In honor of the fact that I'm not supposed to be here right now, here is a picture of my apartment.

I was supposed to meet with co-workers tonight at a bar called Medusa. But, despite the claims of Google, Yahoo, AOL City Guide, this place apparently doesn't exist somewhere on Lexington and 4th St. An hour of driving up and down and all-around proved that to me. Top that off, my cell phone battery was dead, so I couldn't even call said co-workers. So, I gave up and came home.

Total bummer. I was really looking forward to it. Now I'll have to pass on the fact that I'm both blind and retarded to my co-workers this next Monday.

I feel really off-center now. Like, if my life was a movie, it would be Sliding Doors, and the other me is currently at Medusa's chatting it up and getting drunk.

Apartment Complex

Gouache on Paper, 2013

I used a set of repetitions in producing work for this exhibit:

•Three sets of seven arbitrary shapes, each set using the same color

•Three sets of arbitrary dots, each set using the same color

•Two sets of arbitrary lines, each set using the same color

So I did that over and over and over until this happened. That’s not to say I didn’t add some salt and other seasoning to the mix – there are some extra layers of texture throughout the exhibit, but the base, the foundation of all the work here are those eight sets of arbitrary objects, titled "Spooky Action."

If you're here from Apartment Therapy, check out the virtual walkthrough photos as well!

I'm preparing to participate, in whatever meager and non-expense incurring way I can, in Apartment Therapy's "Group Cure." Whilst I await the book's arrival, I thought I'd draw our current floor plan and measure the square footage in our apartment. This apartment is home and office to two full-time students.

Conclusions from looking at this plan:

- we have 485 sq. ft. of space

- we have a lot of seating. i guess my theory was always to err on the side of more seating, in case, you know, we ever have parties. but we rarely have groups so big over that they'd have to sit on all our seating, and plus the extra seating is so far away from the main futon / chair arrangement. and if you have a big party, people stand anyway. hmmm. maybe we could do with less butt real estate, eh?

- we have a lot of shelving, and it's still not enough. with our tall ceilings, i'd like to see us have more "big" shelves instead of the squat ones we mostly have. we could also use to get rid of some books. chris will be renting office space starting next month, so that should help some.

- i love our nice, big bathtub!

- we have lots of lovely windows. it sometimes limits how we can arrange the furniture (particularly in the bedroom) but i'll take that inconvenience any day.

- we are guilty of "shove everything to the walls" syndrome, esp in the front room. but sometimes i feel like we have so little space in each room that there's no room to put anything there that's *not* against the wall!

- i know this is sacriledge, but i wish we had less kitchen space in favor of more living or bathroom space.

- i wish there was no wall between the kitchen and the living space. i hate feeling cut off from guests when i'm cooking, and our kitchen, while spacious, has awful fluorescent lighting and is otherwise not a great setup for hanging out. too bad we're renters!

Andover Apartment Fire & Aftermath. This fire started at the Andover Apartments just across the border from Maumee in Toledo. Several agencies including Maumee Police/Fire reponded to assist. A total of 3 buildings burned which is 35 Aparmtent Units unfortunately displacing dozens of residents. No one was injured or killled thankfully. The high winds defintly contributed to the fire spreading as fast as it did. This complex is located off Eastgate Road.
