Atlas another of my favorites has fallen, I loved this coffee shop and had many a great moment in this store, but as with all things the chapter turns and now it is time to say goodbye to the Erly Rush on Main street, boohoo sob!!!
Anytime you go to the Salton Sea, you HAVE to take a photo of a Burrowing Owl. If you don't, they might not let you go back. This one was sitting on the sign warning of its burrow nearby! Imperial County, CA.

Mokoroa Falls

This beautiful waterfall was one that we visited in the late afternoon while based in auckland. There was another great fall to the right of this but a land slip unfortunately meant that it was plastered in orange tape and markers making a planned pano here not possible. Despite the season being spring, there were still many yellow leaves around which gave it an autumn feel!

Everyone has a kid safe horse, and I’m no exception. Anytime guests come to the farm and want to ride, Ham quickly becomes the first choice. You can ride him anywhere and he does not mind at all. I picked up Ham at a local horse sale. He was a spare work horse and the ranch was downsizing. I hadn’t expected this beefy boy to have a natural talent for Western Pleasure. His gaits are so very smooth. He’s not the fastest horse at western games, but he always tries his hardest.
I plan to offer Ham as my contribution to the charity auction this winter. He would make a great first show horse for someone or a wonderful family companion. He trailers great, rides English and Western, can pull buckboard and is beyond patient!

- www.kevin-palmer.com - Anytime I’m out storm chasing, I love finding some old structure such as a church, barn or abandoned house. Buildings that have weathered many storms, bare the scars, but still stand. This little white church I came across outside of Wolf Point, Montana. A shelf cloud was closing in from the west. It seemed to be approaching rapidly, but at the same time in slow motion. The storm stalled out over town. Excessive rainfall brought street flooding and left drifts of dirty hail on the highway. As it got closer the sky turned green, reflecting the suspended hailstones above. When the gust front finally arrived, it turned brown as winds picked up dust from the surrounding fields. A wind gust of 86mph was reported.
A panorama of a garden that I had the pleasure of being in yesterday...a true Garden of Eden...a continuing work in progress and a labour of love!
Anytime a toad hops into my path, then patiently waits for me to take a dozen photos, it must be a good day.
Carolina wrens are small but very vocal animals. Males are especially outgoing and are the only ones to produce songs. They employ one of the loudest songs per volume of birds. They are apt to sing anytime and anyplace they happen to be.
Carolina wrens are monogamous, and breeding pairs may stay together for years.

Inglis Falls
Known as “the best waterfalls in the area” is the most visited, anytime of year! One of three waterfalls that surround the City of Owen Sound, Inglis Falls is the best known and most visited. Situated in the heart of the 200-hectare Inglis Falls Conservation Area, Inglis Falls is an 18 metre high cascade, created by the Sydenham River meeting the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. The erosive power of the water has carved a deep gorge at the base of the falls. On a clear day you can see down the valley into the City of Owen Sound and out to the Owen Sound harbour.
There is something for everybody; a viewing platform for those unable to see over the stone wall, 7.42 km of trails of various difficulty, access to the Bruce Trail, more than 20 species of ferns, bird watching opportunities, a series of geological potholes, historical remains of a grist mill, washrooms, picnic facilities and visitor information centre.
Historical Information
Inglis Falls is rich in history – starting in 1843 when Peter Inglis immigrated to Canada and settled in this area. In 1845 Inglis purchased a small existing grist mill built two years previously by a Mr. Boyd, and 300 acres of deeded Crown land. It was in 1862 that Inglis replaced the old gristmill with a new four-storey mill that produced flour, bran and shorts (feed for animals).
Other ventures of Inglis’ included building a sawmill a quarter of a mile downstream of the falls. Peter Inglis also built a woollen mill on the eastside of the river on the brink of the falls. Here were manufactured tweeds, flannels and “rainbow” blankets, so called because of the three coloured stripes at each end. The woollen mill was destroyed by fire around 1885 and rebuilt only to burn down again in 1901.
Management of the mill was passed on to Inglis’ oldest son, William A., in 1886. William’s son, Victor, managed the mill until 1932. Eighty-seven years of steady operation under the Inglis family name is an amazing record which very few industries in this area of the province can surpass or equal.
In 1932, the property was obtained by the City of Owen Sound for water rights. The mill was idle for two years, until purchased by Emil Henkel. He ran the mill until 1945 when a fire completely destroyed it.
In 1960 the former North Grey Region Conservation Authority (now the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority) acquired what is presently the Inglis Falls Conservation Area. Today all that remains of that earlier industrial scene are the family home, a stone building, the silent millstones and the enduring beauty of Inglis Falls.
