7DWF: Anything Goes
Size of the frame: 5 cm / 1,96 inches
Bling-blue overkill, I know ;-) Small antique turquoise-blue glass jewellery / trinket box (round) filled with green Swarowski beads and two inexpensive pearl earrings. I wanted to present the pearl studs liks pearls in a pearl oyster shell. The antique blue glass box (is it box?) was a present I got from my mother when I was around 12 (I collected small boxes of all kinds at that time), and the Swarovski beads I had once bought loose at an arts and crafts shop to make a necklace (way cheaper than to buy one, plus I got to choose the colours), but I didn't get the fastener right, so I undid the whole thing and should give it another try...

Blau-grüne Glitzer-Attacke ;-) Was man nicht alles für die Teilnahme am MM tut... Man nehme ein kleines, türkisblaues Glasdöschen (ein Geschenk, das ich mit ca. 12 bekam und kleine Dosen jeder Art sammelte), fülle sie mit lose im Bastelgschäft gekauften Swarovski-Perlen (für eine Halskette gedacht, aber der Verschluss ist mir noch nicht so ganz geglückt) und Perlen-Ohrsteckern (die auch mal ein Geschenk waren), platziere alles vor dem unvermeidlichen Glitzmoosgummi und schraube erneut den geschmackvollen Sternfilter aufs Makro... Ich wollte die Ohrstecker wie Perlen in einer leicht geöffneten Austernschale präsentieren... Wieder kein einfaches Thema... aber ausfallen lassen wollte ich dann doch nicht, nachdem ich mir den halben Sonntag damit um die Ohren (oder besser: Augen) geschlagen hatte.
Kommt gut durch die Hitzewoche (kaum zu glauben, dass es noch mal wärmer wird...)!

Melts in your mouth, not in your hands? Fiddlesticks! Melts in cold water!
The original M&Ms melt experiment was conducted by Yan Liang & Zaoeyo of The Beauty of Science. Sabine.R told me about it on our last photowalk. And this week's theme was the perfect occasion to give it a try ;-) Had a bag of M&Ms at home (in fact I keep buying M&Ms ever since I first had them for MMs "Circles" theme - that stuff is addictive!). I used a clear, fairly flat small glass bowl I usually keep jewellery in (anything flat and clear will do, you could also use a culture / Petri dish), and water at room temperature. Camera on tripod (of course), operated with the remote shutter release, fairly small aperture (I tried different settings between f6.3 and f18). Lightsources were my three small LED spotlights, my DIY softbox, and daylight. Black glitter foamsheet provided the "space" background. Depending on the way the M&Ms (which I'd fixated with modelling clay) are positioned in the bowl, the "melting pattern" will change. I found it difficult to choose a photo, because they all turned out really well. It was great fun, you should give it a try, too! Thanks, Sabine, for the idea ;-)

Schmelzen im Mund, nicht in der Hand? Pustekuchen! Die Dinger schmelzen in kaltem Wasser!
Das Experiment mit M&Ms in Wasser wurde zuerst von Yan Liang & Zaoeyo von "The Beauty of Science" durchgeführt. Bei unserem letzten Fotospaziergang berichtete mir Sabine.R davon. Das Thema dieser MM-Woche, "Candy", war die perfekte Gelegenheit, das mal auszuprobieren. Und es hat großen Spaß gemacht. Ich habe eher kleine Blendenöffnungen (ab F6.3 bis zu Blende 18) verwendet, damit auch alles scharf wird. Die flache Glasschale (dient normalerweise der Ablage von Schmuck; empfohlen werden auch Petrischalen, aber ich hatte gerade keine zur Hand) habe ich auf schwarzes Glitzermoosgummi gestellt, was für den "Weltall-Effekt" sorgt. Kamera kopfüber aufs Stativ, mit Kabelfernauslöser bedient, Wasser rein und losgeknipst ;-) Je nach Anordnung der M&Ms (die ich mit Knete fixiert habe) ergeben sich andere "Schmelzmuster". Die Entscheidung für ein Foto fiel mir dementsprechend schwer. Danke, Sabine, für diese tolle Anregung!

For Macro Mondays' "Anything Goes" theme for May 30th.
This is a Cardinal feather with a water drop. I found the feather a few months back and thought it would make for an interesting macro but never got around to shooting. It was shot with 65mm of extension tubes. Seen with the naked eye this feather looks to be a dark, dark red. I was very surprised to see the structure at this magnification.

bubbles in my daughter's favourite drink, Blue Wicked - for MacroMondays Anything Goes (and after a few of these that is so true!!). Yuck
This is a picture of a Pixel that I captured on a Toshiba Satellite P870 laptop screen. I used a Nikon 18-55mm Gii lens on a reverse macro setup to capture this shot. I would have loved for it to be more sharper but I’m yet to master the Reverse Macro technique. Only post processing done is to increase the sharpness a bit and cropping. Hope you like it.

In the year 2112, Starship Cygnus X-1, Rush category, the flagship of the X-Cans fleet, silently orbits planet Samba on an Amazing Journey through the Musical Fidelity Universe. It is on a five-year mission to explore new musical worlds, to seek out new sounds no woman or man has ever heard before...
The subject was a rather "simple" one, because the only easily accessible "Inside Electronics" parts I had were these old tubes that used to be inside of my headphone amplifier. They are made of glass (of course) so you can see what's inside of them; making it a "double peek", if you like - an inside view of something that used to be inside of an electronic device ;-). I always wanted to use these tubes for a photo. The idea was to make it appear like a spaceship. Ever since the new tubes were installed, the amplifier sounds crappy (so I don't use it anymore; but it's 20 years old, so it's probably time for a new one...). I wasn't aware that the type of tubes can make such a difference in sound...

Das Universum der Musik... Unendliche Weiten. Wir schreiben das Jahr 2112. Dies ist das Raumschiff Cygnus X-1, Rush-Klasse, Flagschiff der X-Cans-Flotte. Lautlos umrundet es den Planeten Samba auf einer fünfjährigen "Amazing Journey" durch das "Musical Fidelity" Universum. Viele Klangjahre von der Erde entfernt erforscht es neue musikalische Welten, die nie ein Mensch zuvor gehört hat...
Um nicht etwas aufschrauben und dabei womöglich beschädigen zu müssen (oder den elektrischen Schlag schlechthin zu bekommen), habe ich hier alte Röhren aus meinem Kopfhörer-Verstärker genommen, die ich schon immer mal für ein Foto verwenden wollte. Ein "doppelter Einblick" ins Innere der Elektronik, da die Röhren durch ihren Glasmantel sowohl Einblick in ihr eigenes Inneres erlauben als auch zuvor im Innern eines elektrischen Geräts verbaut waren. Dummerweise klingt der Verstärker nach dem Wechsel der Röhren gar nicht mehr gut (ich hätte nie gedacht, dass die Art der Röhre solch einen Einfluss auf den Klang hat), aber er ist auch schon 20 Jahre alt; vielleicht Zeit für etwas Neues...

These are the tiny connector pins of the battery part of my hand grip for the OM-D, the size of the entire "area" is 1 x 1,5 cm / 0,39 x 0,59 inches, the "largest" pin (the fairly sharp one) is about 2,5 mm / 0,098 inches high. When I bought the OM-D Olympus most conveniently gave the hand grip away for free. While I never use the actual battery part, because it makes the camera too heavy, I use the grip part, because it makes the camera much more comfortable to hold (and that part has the same connector pins). A difficult theme, again, and I felt rather uninspired, but didn't want to skip MM again. Technically not the best photo, I know, but I thought that if I can't come up with anything very original, it should at least be a little flashy; so it was time to use my favourite universal "macro weapon" again, the totally unprofessional star filter ;-)

Dies sind die winzigen Steckerstifte des Batteriegriffs für meine OM-D. Die gesamte Fläche ist 1 x 1,5 cm groß, der längste Stift ist gut 2,5 mm lang. Den zweiteiligen Griff (Batterieteil und Handgriff) hatte Olympus netterweise dazuspendiert, als ich die OM-D kaufte. Den eigentlichen Batterieteil nutze ich nie, weil er die Kamera zu schwer macht, aber der Handgriff ist echt praktisch und eine prima Ergänzung (und er hat die gleichen Steckerstifte als Anschluss). Wieder ein schwieriges Thema, aber ich wollte MM nicht schon wieder ausfallen lassen. Hier kam wieder meine Makro-Allzweckwaffe zum Einsatz, der hochprofessionelle Sternfilter ;-) Technisch ist es nicht das beste Foto, und vielleicht hätte ich das Ganze auch noch ohne Sternfilter ausprobieren sollen, aber ich hatte irgendwann (nach vielen Fotos und irgendwann sehr spätem Sonntagabend) keine Lust mehr auf noch einen Versuch, also entschied ich mich für eines der halbwegs vernünftigen Bilder, die ich schon fertig hatte.
