The cinereous vulture (Aegypius monachus) is a large raptorial bird that is distributed through much of Eurasia. It is also known as the black vulture, monk vulture, or Eurasian black vulture. It is one of the two largest Old World vultures, attaining a maximum size of 14 kg, (roughly 30 lbs), 1.2 m long (almost 4 ft) and 3.1 m (a bit over 10 ft) across the wings.

The golden-headed lion tamarin (Leontopithecus chrysomelas), also the golden-headed tamarin, is a lion tamarin endemic to Brazil. It is found only in the lowland and premontane tropical forest fragments in the state of Bahia, and therefore is considered to be an endangered species.

The classification of this species and name have evolved. It was formerly placed in the genus Polyborus. The use of the name formerly extended to two subspecies: the northern caracara (C. cheriway) of the southern United States, Mexico, Central America and northern South America, and the extinct Guadalupe caracara (C. lutosa) as subspecies. As the name is defined, the range of the southern caracara is restricted to central and southern South America.

It is the only member of the genus Terathopius and may be the origin of the "Zimbabwe Bird", national emblem of Zimbabwe.[2] It is endemic to Africa and small parts of Arabia. The rosy starling (Pastor roseus) is a passerine bird in the starling family, Sturnidae, also known as the rose-coloured starling or rose-coloured pastor. The species was recently placed in its own monotypic genus, Pastor, and split from Sturnus.

Whisker is the oldest son of Nestor (born in Antwerp zoo, august 2012) and his mate Tasa (moved from Czech Republic).
His female siblings Winta and Waka moved to Whipsnade zoo last year to be part of a new breeding program (may 2023)
Zoo favorite Nestor moved to another zoo park in Belgium (feb 2024) . Apparently his very pure genes are important to the breeding program of West and Central African lions. Many lions kept in zoos are crossbreeds.
Lions in West- and Central Africa are regionally endangered, living in small fragmented populations in protected areas only. The main threats are habitat destruction for agricultural development (of dry savannah) and human-lion conflict.
Whisker as well as his younger brother Xesar will also move to other zoos. Xesar's female siblings Xabi and Xira will remain with their mother according to the latest news. In time they will be paired with another male.
In Belgium's KMDA (Antwerp and Planckendael zoo) newborns are named following the alphabet.

Black-and-white colobuses (or colobi) are Old World monkeys of the genus Colobus, native to Africa. They are closely related to the red colobus monkeys of genus Piliocolobus.There are five species of this monkey, and at least eight subspecies. They are generally found in high-density forests where they forage on leaves, flowers and fruit. Social groups of colobus are diverse, varying from group to group. Resident-egalitarian and allomothering relationships have been observed among the female population. Complex behaviours have also been observed in this species, including greeting rituals and varying group sleeping patterns. Colobi play a significant role in seed dispersal.

The Bali myna (Leucopsar rothschildi), also known as Rothschild's mynah, Bali starling, or Bali mynah, locally known as jalak Bali, is a medium-sized (up to 25 centimetres (9.8 in) long), stocky myna, almost wholly white with a long, drooping crest, and black tips on the wings and tail. The bird has blue bare skin around the eyes, greyish legs and a yellow bill. Both sexes are similar. It is critically endangered and fewer than 100 adults are assumed to currently exist in the wild.

This is not a captive bird. Several wild grey herons have made the zoo their home. They can always be found near the Californian sea lions waiting for them to be fed.
