The southern crested caracara (Caracara plancus), also known as the southern caracara or carancho, is a bird of prey in the family Falconidae. As presently defined, the southern crested caracara is restricted to central and southern South America. It formerly included the northern crested caracara (C. cheriway) of the southern United States, Mexico, Central America and northern South America, and the extinct Guadalupe caracara (C. lutosa) as subspecies. As its relatives, it was formerly placed in the genus Polyborus.

The zoo counts 5 members of the Western lowland gorilla, silverback Matadi and 2 females Mambele with daughter Vizazi (born 2020) and the other female Mayani withe her daughter Thandie (born 2018). There's aso one Eastern lowland gorilla Amahoro. She was saved from poachers when she was just a little baby and too young to be rehabilitated in another gorilla group.

Rescued from poachers and now a crowd favorite in Antwerp Zoo.
Amahoro is wild-caught. This means that she was born in nature, so we do not know her exact birthday or even her age. She was captured by poachers and probably – we don't know for sure – they shot her parents. She was kept to be traded alive.
Amahoro was rescued from the poachers and then taken to the Zoo. She arrived here on August 18, 1994, when she was a toddler of about 4 years old. At that age, young gorillas are still dependent on their mother, but she quickly integrated into the group that lived here at the time.
Amahoro is a very special animal. Partly because she is an eastern lowland gorilla, the only living subspecies of that subspecies in Europe. The other gorillas in Antwerp are western lowland gorillas.
Amahoro is quite easily recognizable in the group even for a layman. She is larger than her peers and her coat is noticeably darker.

The meerkat (Suricata suricatta) or suricate is a small mongoose found in southern Africa. It is characterised by a broad head, large eyes, a pointed snout, long legs, a thin tapering tail, and a brindled coat pattern. The head-and-body length is around 24–35 cm (9.4–13.8 in), and the weight is typically between 0.62 and 0.97 kg (1.4 and 2.1 lb). The coat is light grey to yellowish brown with alternate, poorly defined light and dark bands on the back. Meerkats have foreclaws adapted for digging and have the ability to thermoregulate to survive in their harsh, dry habitat. Three subspecies are recognised.

The Sara Longwing (Heliconius sara) is a species of neotropical heliconiid butterfly found from Mexico to the Amazon Basin and southern Brazil. It is a colourful species: the dorsal wing surface is black with a large medial patch of metallic blue that is framed by two bands of white on the forewings. (This coloration is similar to that of Wallace's Longwing, H. wallacei, whose range overlaps Sara's, but does not extend as far north.) The ventral wing surface is a dull brown to black with muted bands and small red spots on the proximal margin; total wingspan is 55–60 mm.
