Bahía

(ca. 500 a.C. – 650 d.C.)

This culture developed along the coastal strip in the Province of Manabí, south of Bahía de Caráquez. As a rule, Bahía towns were established on the Pacific shore. They were formed by earth moulds and platforms on which temples and houses had been built.

It was a very stratified society ruled by an elite of shamans and merchants. Economically this society lived on farming, fishing, terrestrial and maritime long as wellar distance exchanges.

The principal sanctuary was in the Isla de La Plata, site where many ceramic offering and numerous spondylus shells have been found.

The early Bahía pottery, closely associated with designs, styles and patterns from Chorrera culture, is an illustrative case of the influence exerted by this culture upon the peoples in the Period of Regional Development. Bahía pottery is characterized by representing large figure with detailed attires or simple and stylized figures of human beings and animals.

The variety of body ornaments includes necklaces of spondylus shell, quartz and sodalite, together with earplug and varied golden ornaments.

Jama-Coaque

(350 a.C. – 1532 d.C.)

This culture extended over northern Manabí and inhabited an environment characterized by wooded hills close to the beach. The power was held by a wealthy and powerful minority. Like neighbouring ethnic groups, the people of Jama-Coaque culture practiced a terrestrial and maritime long-distance trade.

The culture and religious core was the ceremonial center of San Isidro, where several temples were constructed on a huge pyramid surrounded by a large city.

The skill of Jama-Coaque potters is evidenced primarily by the manufacture of fine human figures represented as doing certain tasks and offices Of equal peculiarity and beauty are the ceremonial figure. The attire shows the existence of a flourishing textil industry.

Did you know the word luggage comes from the Swedish ‘lugga’/Norwegian ‘lunge’ meaning ‘to carry laboriously’ or possibly ‘to pull by the hair’?

WIT: Thought I'd have some fun with this picture, lol!

Anthropomorphic figure made of grey granitoid. It stood as a boundary marker in the early medieval period

The pictures in this album are just a small taste of what awaits you in this lovely space. Additionally, for those that worry that a museum will bore you, know that this museum is different. It’s exciting presentation makes it enjoyable for anyone who likes to learn or who enjoys art in general. Children will especially love hunting for the different animals on display. Just remember to ask for the list at the front desk when you arrive.

Still not convinced? The Casa Alabado is small. I viewed the entire collection in about two hours. I am pretty slow and methodical, taking many pictures along the way. Others will likely need only an hour or so.

Finally, this museum is worth just a walkthrough as it grounds your experience in a city where the Spanish-colonial infrastructure overwhelms the ancient signs of the Andean people who lived here before Europeans invaded. Truly, this space tells the history of Ecuador before the times of Columbus in a unique way. This Brazilian traveler highly recommends you visit!

Had to enhance this little Pictograph since it is slowly fading away.

Eurasian Oystercatcher is a Near Threatened species (IUCN Red List)

It’s anthropomorphic to phrase it this way, but this Eurasian Oystercatcher seemed to be contemplating the waves. But no, it wasn’t being philosophical…this was just a pause before the behaviour shown in the next image

It is the case that the waves at this spot extend far to the west, as this is at the western end of the Reykjanes Peninsula in the region of Suðurnes, southwestern Iceland. The precise location was the Garðskagi lighthouse near the town of Garður.

This very anthropomorphic tree reminds of the Whomping Willow in the Harry Potter novels - thrashing its arms around. In this case, an oak, still green amongst lovely autumn colour from the beeches in the New Forest.

The Carchi Pasto culture was located in northern Ecuador in the province of Carchi, in the inter-Andean region between the Mira and Chota rivers. It extended as far as the Nariño Department of Colombia. Most of the population settled in the territories of Ipiales, Túquerres (Colombia) and Carchi (Ecuador).

It was characterized as being a peaceful, sedentary trading culture. The Carchi Pasto traded Spondylus mollusc shells, coca leaves, salt and jade with other coastal and Amazonian peoples. They were expert hunters of deer, which had a strong symbolic value.

This culture is renowned for its pottery and metallurgy. Many of their pieces feature “coqueros” – human figures in a sitting position with a bulge in their cheeks representing the rite of chewing coca leaves—along with interpretations of sacred animals such as jaguars and monkeys. They specialized in the negative painting technique to decorate their pottery, which was a dark red color. They also made use of positive-space painting, modelling, stone carving and gold-copper alloys. They also used Spondylus shells as beads and collars, which they obtained through trade with other regions.

The final fling for this clematis reminds me of so many types of cultural attire form Cossack to Mongolian to Japanese to Peruvian...

This ray shows the anthropomorphic appearance of a human face ... at least in a cartoonish manner. We recently visited Ripley's Aquarium in Toronto and spent a couple of hours photographing the exhibits. As we walked down a plexiglass tunnel the sharks and others were swimming all around us. The challenge was shooting in low light at moving subjects through glass and water with plenty of reflections. High ISO's were a must and in this case I used ISO 1600.

Prompt: Create an ultra-realistic digital fine art illustration of two anthropomorphic dogs. One is a West Highland White Terrier and the other dog is a salt and pepper Schnauzer, both are dressed in vintage traveler attire, sitting confidently atop a large leather duffel bag and vintage suitcase. The dog’s expressions are endearing, with soulful eyes. They wear a tan trench coat, layered over a vest and white shirt. Around their neck is a scarf tied loosely. Their trousers are cargo pants, rolled up at the cuffs, revealing their fur, and they wear old dark brown lace-up boots with visible scuffs and creases. Each dog is wearing a different style old hat.

The duffel bag and suitcase is crafted from worn brown leather, with buckles, straps, and metallic clasps, suggesting years of travel. Faded papers or maps lie scattered at their feet. The background should be softly textured in neutral beige and gray tones, with painterly brushwork and gentle light gradients that evoke a fine-art studio portrait. A sign reads "Bus Stop"

Art Style: Ultra-realistic digital fine art painting, character illustration

Mood: Adventurous, whimsical, nostalgic

Lighting: Soft, diffused daylight with warm undertones and subtle highlights emphasizing texture and depth

Color Palette: Earthy browns, muted navy, cream, and warm neutrals

Detail: Visible fur texture, worn fabric folds, realistic leather and metal reflections, intricate accessory details

Aspect Ratio: Vertical
