Ask ten inhabitants of Ghent what the most beautiful place in their city is and nine will answer the Graslei. Today this medieval port with its unique row of historical buildings, which are reflected in the long river, is the meeting place par excellence. Young and old, inhabitant and visitor, everyone meets on one of the many café patios or simply by the waterfront. You could also take a canal cruise in one of the ferries lined along this waterfront. A ride that would introduce you to the history of this city. The house of the Grain Weighers, the Guildhall of the Free Boatmen, the Spijker… every house on the Graslei has its own history. Together they form the story of the incredible blossoming of Ghent’s economy during the Middle Ages.
I couldnt get the shot I wanted because it started pouring right after I had taken this picture, so this was the best I could get before my umbrella cracked ;-)

I have been and still am a seeker, but I have ceased to question stars and books; I have begun to listen to the teaching my blood whispers to me. Hermann Hesse
I found this behavior quite disturbing as I watched this small warbler feeding its demanding, oversized young. They are chicks of brood parasitic cowbirds. The females forego nests to put all their energy into producing eggs.....more than 3 dozen per nesting season. They lay their eggs in the nests of other birds, often at the expense of the foster parents own young. Many consider them a nuisance bird, as they have been implicated in the decline of species like Kirtland Warblers and Black-capped Vireos. I watched this activity over the course of several days.....but never saw the parents fly to a nest to feed its own babies. I assume these 2 pretenders were too big for the nest as they stayed in a spot under a bush where the small parents kept trying to keep them fed. The babies would pounce on the warblers, knocking them back as they fought over the food brought. I know it's not the fault of the young Cowbirds they are in this situation....I wish there was an answer.

The answer to the previous picture is: Potatoes!
Yes, that pretty purple flower comes from potato plant.
In fact it's the same potato plant which produced these lovely potatoes a few weeks later.
Growing in a little, 10 l bucket (that's about 2.6 US gallon).
It gave about 1.5 kg (more than 3 pounds) delicious organic potatoes.
They were pushing the top soil up as they were growing inside until some of the soil was falling out of the bucket and I had to dig them up.
Freshly dug up home grown potatoes are a treat, they taste so good.

Earth raised up her head
From the darkness dread and drear,
Her light fled,
Stony, dread,
And her locks covered with grey despair
- William Blake
But this is how I feel..
I was praying for some god beams. The pavement was still wet when I got to the mountain for sunrise. There wasn’t a sunrise, of course. The mountain was covered in clouds. But the rain had ended, the system was moving away so I got on the Bankhead Trail for my usual morning walk and prayed for the best.
It didn’t happen where I wanted — or when I wanted — but it happened. An answered prayer can be like that.

It's not so easy to make a decent photo of two fairly large models, when you have a) limited space, b) limited size of the landing pad and c) limited size of the background sheet.
Taken back in June.

After shooting the Delmarva Central train HA-1 in the clouds all morning, dad and I were excited to see the skies clear out for the afternoon southbound chase. Questions lead our lives. From childhood to demise.
We all pass through life looking for answers.
.
Few keep looking for them everyday. Few find them in their calling.
.
Few become the answers.
.
.
So here's a question for you:-
"Which is greater 'the need for more' or 'lack of satisfaction'?"

She answers to Charlotte, Charchar, Charchar Binks, Binks, Charlie, Charliegirl, but NOT Cutiepatootie! She vehemently denies being a cutiepatootie! She will tell you she is NOT that, and she will state “I am Charlotte…….(pause) and I am beautiful!”. No self esteem problem here, for sure! Her personality is one of confidence, with a touch of spitfire. She is clever and sometimes sassy, and a sweet bundle of love, along with that. I am her go to….she screams with joy when she sees me arrive and she cries big ol’ tears when it is time for me to head home, breaking me heart every time. She loves animals ( especially my cats and her 6 month old adopted puppy) and making art with Oma ( or Omie, depending on who I am that day! She eats darn near anything especially tomatoes and fruits and veggies and fish tacos…and if she spots dessert, she will announce that she does not like her chicken, just her broccoli to see if she can con you into still having that dessert! She is caring and the first one to get her “prayer hands “ in place to say grace before the family has meals and reminds them about saying Grace. Occasionally she will even make an attempt, by saying “Thank you for this food, Amen. Now we can eat!” I love her to the moon and back, and more. Oh! And she LOVES books and being read to! Finally, I think I have an up and coming Reader. My other grands will read but only Lileigh is getting into it more as she is now 13…ack! Time flies…
