A study in severe angles as Derby's latest architectural showpiece forms a backdrop to a waiting Dennis Dart SLF cascaded from the Trent Barton parent fleet to its Notts & Derby offshoot.

One day, I'll really figure out what number this is, and how many I am behind. =P

For Macro Mondays theme: EDGE

Conglomerate in the Pennsylvanian of Ohio, USA.

This outcrop in southern Ohio exposes the lowermost Pottsville Group, a Pennsylvanian-aged, cyclothemic succession in eastern Ohio that contains nonmarine shales, marine shales, siltstones, sandstones, coals, marine limestones, and chert ("flint"). The lower Pottsville dates to the late Early Pennsylvanian. The upper part dates to the early Middle Pennsylvanian. The Lower-Middle Pennsylvanian boundary is apparently somewhere near the Boggs Member (?).

At this site, the basal Pottsville is a spectacular quartz-pebble conglomerate, with a quartzose sandstone unit above it, plus coal and sandstone and shale above that.

In eastern and northeastern Ohio, the conglomeratic base of the Pottsville Group is called the Sharon Conglomerate (a.k.a. Sharon Sandstone; Sharon Formation; Sharon Member). The literature points out that the Sharon elsewhere in Ohio is not directly correlatable with the conglomerate exposed at this site near Jackson, Ohio. Thus, it has been suggested that the unit at this locality be referred to as the "Sharon" Conglomerate.

Here, the rocks are generally massive (= non-bedded) quartz-pebble conglomerates. Other clast lithologies and sizes are also present, including angular shale clasts, angular sandstone clasts (both derived from erosion of the underlying Logan Formation of Early Mississippian age), rounded to irregularly-shaped ironstone clasts, rounded quartz sandstone pebbles, rounded quartzite pebbles, and rounded silicified limestone pebbles. A very unusual clast type present at this outcrop is ferruginous, pyrite-cemented and hematite-cemented, quartz-pebble conglomerate (= conglomerate in conglomerate ! ).

Stratigraphy: "Sharon" Conglomerate, lowermost Pottsville Group, Lower Pennsylvanian

Locality: Jackson North Outcrop - view of roadcut along the northeastern side of Rt. 35, immediately southeast of the Rt. 35-Lloyds Bridge Road intersection (the northwestern intersection - there are two of them), north of the town of Jackson, northwest-central Jackson County, southern Ohio, USA (39° 06’ 31.82” North latitude, 82° 40’ 35.33” West longitude)

Bloodstreams & Flashcuts in RedDawn

Tilted layers of the Furnace Creek Formation have been eroded flat across the top, and more recent horizontal deposits of sand and gravel have since been laid on top of this old erosion surface.

taken today in NYC. madison square park, the gilsey house, 2 near penn station and the king kong statue.

Angular, urban forms.

4 minute exposure onto Ilford MGIV RC Satin in a homemade panoramic pinhole camera. Probably could have been shorter.

Fun with the super wide angle lens for distortion, this got some pretty funny reactions while we were taking the photos

The Majorelle Garden, Marakech

A bit of a different view of Stillwell Hall on Mason St. along Crissy Field in the Presidio. The barracks building has, as far as I can determine, been abandoned at least since the army left the Presidio in 1994. The building looks OK from a distance, but is in considerable disrepair up close. Several windows are broken, and there are some pretty considerable cracks in the exterior. I noticed what seemed to be some sort of monitoring equipment attached around some of the cracks, presumably to identify any further damage occurring. The building seems to be mostly empty, but several windows still have curtains or blinds. I got this one after sneaking around back. I've walked by several times, but never thought to check it out from the back. Theres a couple small courtyard type areas that are sorta interesting. I found this in one of them. I'd love to get inside of some of these buildings...

This is the 1968 concrete monstrosity that is the council offices for Flintshire. Horrible building, but architechturally grand for photography!

I took this picture of part of the structure of the Victoria Road Recreation Centre in Guelph from an unusual angle as the shapes against the sky appealed to me.
