I had the great pleasure of watching this green heron fish for quite a while last night. It was very successful, as seen here snacking on an orange-spotted sunfish. Interestingly, green herons are one of the few bird species known to use tools. They will create a lure out of bread, insects, feathers, etc, and drop it on the water's surface to lure small fish. Here it just let the dam do the work, and waited patiently for dinner!

I’m punning unforgivably now. I’ve been thinking about Paul Strand lately, and the quiet power his photos have. Honestly, I understand his work less than that of most others I appreciate, and yet I’m aware that many of his photos have… something I can’t entirely define, but it has a kind of magic. The light on this wall reminded me a little of his magic.

This coneflower is growing near the driveway of Wright-Locke Farm. I got my wide angle lens as close as possible for this, about 10 inches or so.

Replaced after a few alterations.
Having spent as cold a bivouac as I can remember, a series of warming up exercises were necessary in order not to become totally ineffective at operating a camera. Star jumps, press ups, shadow boxing & other random rapid movements restored blood flow & saw off any pesky sheep intent on 'photo-bombing' Angle Tarn. Even the ravens were eyeing me suspiciously.
The lagoons in Del Mar have various paths used for running or end at various places with nowhere else to go. This random swinging fence is what can be found here, as well as other sundry unexpected things. I had the wrong film for the day - high speed HP5+ for a sunny day outside - but was playing with my FED 1 (over 70 year old gear with a loading system created to instill patience and thoughtfulness for the respective user) and couldn't change it easily. Grain is there but I think tonality was very reasonable.
