another scan i hadn't gotten to yet, from an abandoned building i went into a couple times during the holidays...

on 01 jan 2010, i began my journey w/ a new flickr group i've formed, ~365: experimental
the idea is that i strive to push myself daily; experiment, learn, & develop my photography skills further by exploring techniques, ideas, and experiments. hopefully, some of you might consider joining and we can work on our journey together! cheers.

i kinda liked this frame, for some reason, so... i propped my holga on a newspaper dispenser (the shiny reflection you see in the lower right hand corner)...
i just got delivery of this camera not even 8 hours ago, and decided to go out and give it some testing.
you can read my (somewhat) full review on this image. for a 30-150mm camera w/ 848x480 video and a fast 4GB sd card and shipping for $100, i am t-h-r-i-l-l-e-d!
i'm sure i will be learning its capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses over the course of a few months' time. so bear w/ me while i'm a n00b w/ this gear.
a few more images from my rollei R3 test roll, these are about the only ones i really find 'acceptable'... kinda flat, lots of graininess, not great detail in the scans, even though the negatives look fantastic.

i really like this church for some reason... i mean, photographically.
but this image represents an absolute first for me... i don't think i've ever in my life done an artsy frame/border before for any presentation.
here, i leveled this negative in photoshop (yeah, i get a lil' off kilter now'n'then)... and just decided to leave it. yup. just like that. as if i don't care.
(i guess i don't.) lol.
while my wheelman Rafa was driving, i was busy doing the shooting (thru the windshield) inside the Webster Street Tunnel from Oakland to Alameda. LOL.

okay, so i got to thinking (my first problem, right there)... and when i was thinking i thunk...
what would happen if i made a body cap for my lovely D300 into a pinhole?
just earlier today the neighbors that live across the street in what i can only guess is a $15 million dollar home, had a six-person team professionally installing these holiday lights. 30 second exposure here.
curious how the edges are in much sharper focus. usually pinhole photography is the opposite, with the edges having a seeming 'zoom' type blur. huh.
this is just about the only image i spent more than 30 seconds on in post. i decided to see if i can do similar pp to what i'd be confident doing to a dSLR image. not quite there, but fairly close.
attempting a long exposure pano... not a very good result, but i think i learned from this one how i'd prepare and improve the next one...

i was trying to get some good digital double exposures while riding BART. i guess this is prolly the most interesting of the bunch...
which, quite honestly isn't saying much. LOL.
at the exploratorium, this was an exhibit that shows how comets are formed. IIRC, they use frozen nitrogen (or some other super-freezed compond) and drop small rock-like 'bits' into a liquid... it 'runs around' and eventually evaporates.
yeah, i did some photoshop to this.
handheld high ISO shot during a solo nighttime photowalk. this place is really cool for photoshoots.
shot at the Fillmore Street Jazz Festival. i think this is a tad too subtle, what do you think? any comments?
yeah, i don't often do this, but here i changed my white balance to blow out (i eye-droppered the white curtain in the window top-left). it made everything kinda pop.
this building wasn't there last time i was around lake merritt, but i dunno how many years ago that was. maybe last time i led a photowalk here, about 3 years ago?
i think it is a Church of Christ. but i'm really not sure. anybody care to help inform me better?
i wasn't in love w/ this shot, so decided to convert in to b&w. added a touch of sepia toning and deepened the contrast.

i ran this APX w/ D76 developer, maybe it needs something more contrasty... heck, maybe a higher water temp and tmax developer, or a coffee developer would be really nice... i dunno.
