“Almost There…” Category: Wild A newly born Leatherback turtle has finished its trek across the dry sand and has made it to the water. Whilst still in the egg, threats to the survival of the egg could be: raccoons, dogs, roots from trees (sucking out nutrients), flooding of the nest, and poachers. During the journey across the dry sand to get to the ocean, threats to baby turtles include: crabs, raccoons, dogs, birds, flies (burrow into the turtle and eat it), and the heat from the sun. If a turtle does make it all the way to the water, they still have threats – sharks, anglers, sea gulls, and lack of muscle warm up thus being unable to swim. This little guy has survived the egg and dry sand portions of life, and who knows what happened after that. This just goes to show how crucial conservation education is in order to save this species. Taken: April, 2011 at Pacuare Nature Reserve, near Tortuguero Costa Rica
This was the last bloom on one of my aunt's clematis plants... kinda shows me how fast time is flying and summer is almost over..... almost time to go back to school *sniff*
Probably another few weeks and we'll get tons of delicious ripe black berries. Until then I'll keep taking intermediate forms. :P
Cropped a bit.
Taken on Denman Island, BC, Canada on July 23rd, 2009.
Probably my favorite photo from the set.
Students had to follow specific directions in order to create the right mixture which turned colors depending on how much liquid they put in the test tubes. Easy project, but they were absolutely in awe!
Rigging rises almost 12 feet over the deck of the pirate ship treehouse to the top of the main mast. Just beyond the top of the mast, the tree's canopy filters out wind and sun.
Its already night time so I took these quick pics... Hope u like her!
I think I am going to name her peach pie! Hehe
Almost had the lens touching the front flowers. Testing out my new Sigma 50mm F2.8 EX DG Macro lens.
Somewhere along the coast in the North Western part of New Zealand's Southern island. Great empty beaches, almost empty.
He has achieved success who has lived well,
Laughed often, loved much;
Who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children;
Who has filled his niche and accomplished his task;
Who has left the world better than he found it,
Whether by an approved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul;
Who has never lacked appreciation for earth's beauty or failed to express it;
Who has looked for the best in others given the best he had;
Whose life was an inspiration, whose memory a benediction.
Almost a year ago, I turned 60 years old. I admit that I was not happy about it. There's a much bigger psychological difference between 60 and 59 than there is, say, between 58 and 57, or between 61 and 60. We all understand this; we know it's irrational, but we understand it. And I'm a bit ashamed to say that it hit me kinda hard. In retrospect I can see that I spent too much of the first half of that year after turning 60 in a bit of a funk, not happy about occupying an age range that is generally acknowledged as "old." Or at least "older." Yeah, I know: "first world problem." But there it is.
Anyway, it was back in October when I finally stopped moping; I began working out with a personal trainer, and made some changes in my diet. One positive change led to others, and I started feeling better. Now that 61 is barreling down the road at me, I am happy to say that I feel a whole lot better than I did when it was 60 that was coming on fast. I'm a very lucky woman. Not every day is easy or filled with glee, but every day is a great gift.
Almost got both airplanes all the way in the frame. Almost managed to get one of them sharp. Oh well, maybe next time....
Geico Skytypers at Airventure this year. The name could be more accurate but "Geico Dot Matrix Printers" just doesn't sound as good....
I have the hardest time reconciling my job and my style. Work clothes are such a bore, but I find myself underdressed from important occasions too often.

would have been funny if someone else had photographed me half hanging out of my living room window, 3rd floor, trying to catch this beautiful sunset :-)
This night was sooo much fun. I remember working behind the stage in the dressing room area, making sure everyone had their laminate passes. I hung out with sooo many musicians that night, but to be more precise, the guys from Taking Back Sunday. I had only heard of them, wasn't really a fan. Their singer, Adam, got sooo piss drunk that night, hahahaha. He even offered me a drink at one point, but I declined. Instead, after the show, he let me know that they had free food and giveaways in their dressing room, and let m have whatever I wanted :) That was mighty nice of him :)
When I was 18, I worked for a company where I was able to usher for pretty much every venue in LA (big or small), minus the Staples Center. The two years I worked there were by far the most memorable to date. I also chilled with the guys from The Used, My Chemical Romance, and met Brandon from the Killers.
It was the most fun I'd ever had at a minimum wage job.
There's something a little LeatherFace about this photo of Edina... seriously... it's right there on the borderline of creeping me out.
