Away from the large amount of wide-body aircraft that dominates Japanese domestic air travel, narrow-body aircraft are also kept busy on a variety of routes across Japan either with the legacy or low-cost carriers.
All Nippon Airways have been an Airbus A320 family operator since 1991, taking delivery of 28 Airbus A320s between 1991 to 1997, followed by a further 5 examples delivered during 2007 which only lasted with All Nippon Airways until 2012. The relationship between ANA and Airbus has continued throughout the decades, the carrier also owning the low-cost carriers of Peach Aviation and Vanilla Air which have since been merged together utilises Airbus A320s, as a result of the merger in 2019, 3 Airbus A320s did transfer over to All Nippon Airways but they only lasted over a year, being handed back to their leasing companies.
In regards to the Airbus A321, the carrier first operated a batch of 7 Airbus A321-100s from 1998 with the last examples arriving by 2000, however their use was short-lived, having been retired by mid-2007. Today, All Nippon Airways no longer operate any of the first generation Airbus A320s, the last examples having left the fleet in 2020; in 2014, All Nippon Airways announced an order for Airbus A320neos and Airbus A321neos, as well as to lease 4 Airbus A321ceos which would arrive first in 2016 before the Airbus A320neos and Airbus A321neos began arriving in late-2016 and early-2017 respectively.
The Airbus A320neos operate a mixture of domestic and short-haul international flights from their hub at Tokyo-Haneda as well as their secondary hub at Osaka-Kansai. The Airbus A321ceo/neos are primarily used on domestic flights only, mainly being utilised from Tokyo-Haneda and Osaka-Itami.
Currently, All Nippon Airways operates 37 Airbus A320 family aircraft, which includes 11 Airbus A320neos, 4 Airbus A321ceos and 22 Airbus A320neos. All Nippon Airways have 4 Airbus A321neos on-order.
Juliet Alpha One Four Four Alpha is one of 22 Airbus A321neos operated by All Nippon Airways, delivered new to the carrier on 24th December 2020 and she is powered by 2 Pratt & Whitney PW1130G-JM engines.
