This may be the only physical evidence left that I worked in the University of Notre Dame Nuclear Structure Laboratory. I had this crazy rig built sometime around 1979 I would guess. Its purpose was to check the alignment of the beam line through the Ortec scattering chamber.
I am not too sure anyone (other than me) has ever used this after it was installed and aligned but it was a hoot to see it still standing 30 years later.

This was one of my final shots taken at Yumigahama Cove on the eastern coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture.
My intention was to catch the surfer riding a wave, but after waiting for sooo long I almost gave up until I noticed that the fishing boat might line up perfectly with the surfer and small break between the two cliffs!

My great grandfather, Royal, started this business in 1939. My grandfather ran it after that. I used to play with all the tools and bug the mechanics when I was little.
Montreux, Switzerland, autoroute rest stop with spectacular view: do you line up the barrier horizontally, or the bench, or the steps or the - with such a vertical sun reflection I just liked all these horizontal lines.
