A row of trees arc through the desert.

When I'm busy working I often find myself daydreaming.

There's something pure about a day spent walking with no other aim other than to get to somewhere and back again, in my own time, feeling part of the landscape rather than simply walking through it.

NGV Australia, Federation Square, Melbourne.

This was part of the recent Hans and Nora Heysen Exhibition, an amazing exhibition of two famous Australian artists in Melbourne. Hans Heysen was a German born Australian artist who was famous for his big landscapes especially in South Australia while his equally talented daughter was better known for her portraiture.

"'Petunias' demonstrates Nora Heysen's clear articulation of form and colour, highlighting her ability to capture the qualities and sensations inherent to her subject. The painting presents an immaculate arrangement of objects, arguably more real than reality, emphasising Heysen's poetic pursuit.

Artist Hans Heysen, who often critiqued his daughter Nora Heysen's work, noted her treatment of 'each flower being seen somewhat separately'. This aspect of the work is central to its modernist tendencies and distinguishes her work from her father's practice. Distinct forms and their rich colouring are intrinsic to the overall design of the painting. Aligned with this vision, the tablecloth and the chinoiserie backdrops are schematically employed by the artist as a device to create flat blocks of colour in the painting." www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/collection/works/828/

Some days are like this, where every thought, every action is an attempt at achieving balance.

public access to the beach at the north end of pawley's island, south carolina. tricky exposure in the blinding white, mid-morning sun, but this still conveys that hot, squinty-eyed feeling of walking on the sand and getting that first glimpse of the ocean, just beyond the dunes. i've made this walk so many times, whether at pawley's or tybee or edisto or hunting or any of the other barrier islands along the south carolina and georgia coasts, it is burned into my memory, etched by the sun. the feeling i get when my memory aligns with my reality, as it does in this simple image, literally takes my breath away in a big exhalation of delight and relief, the relief you feel only when you are truly, wholly home.

please subsitute your own precious experience in this space … and exhale.

Churches in England are often aligned in a specific direction, typically with the altar at the east end and the main entrance at the west end, a practice known as orientation.

All Saint's church Walcott in the foreground aligned with St Mary's Church in Happisburgh some 2km distant.

I always wanted to take this photo just with the arches.

This is under the St. Johns bridge. The Gothic arches support the bridge, which resemble a cathedral arch.

No wonder why people get married under the bridge.

A rare daylight 203 Extra is seen switching the East end of the yard at Brownville Jct. on a cold Saturday morning. The crew is making some final moves before they back to the West end of the yard and get aligned to head South towards NMJ.

When it comes to cypress tree formations in the swamps, I have not seen groupings more perfectly aligned and spaced as these five trees. However, credit to this scene goes to my buddy David, who has spent considerable time exploring the bayou and finding some of the best spots for swamp photography.

This was taken on the third straight morning of misty conditions. I first set off to this area of the swamp grove, knowing the mist is usually best pre-sunrise and that the mist here tends to dither away once temperatures start warming. Although I shot this scene the first morning, I made another attempt to improve upon my initial shot. With three in the front, two in the back, this formation reminds me of a starting five ready for a performance.

Merci de bien vouloir signer la pétition contre le nouveau nom de région.

Au lieu de Roussillon, nous serions englobés dans le nom d'Occitanie.

Cela revient à nier l'identité Catalane.

Merci pour votre soutien !

While daylight-scouting foregrounds for a Milky Way panorama in Joshua Tree National Park, I went to a famous spot, trying make up my mind whether to try my take of it or not. Unsurprisingly, it was crowded by tourists, photographers and two instagrammers who obviously owned the place. I didn’t even check my planning app, as I knew how the Milky Way would align from countless images on social media. After watching the freak show for a while, I moved on, still unsure if I was willing to return for a night shot.

A short distance away, I was alone again. Glad to have escaped the zoo at the overcrowded spot, I took a deep breath and glanced around. There was nice looking group of rocks with some scattered Yuccas and bushes in the foreground. This peaceful scene immediately made me stop. If I was not completely mistaken, the Milky Way would nicely align here. A quick check of my planning app confirmed my suspicion and I knew that I just had found the place for my Milky Way panorama.
