This is a weird patch of algae I discovered along a slower-moving part of a creek that runs through town. Water was slowly bubbling up through the green center of this slimy algae. The red and orange algae is stained from the high iron content of the soil around here.
In addition to Congressman Bilbray, singer-songwriter Carole King is also a proponent of renewable energy. Ms. King took part in the algae fuel press conference with Congressman Bilbray. Off to the side is Rebecca Harrell, producer of the movie "Fuel" that discusses the need for alternative forms of energy in the United States.
Unfortunately large parts of the coastal line are "polluted" with green algae now. Some parts of the lake even have the smell of sewer hovering around. Not very good!
A lid from a plastic storage container was thrown into the woods, and over time a thin film of algae grew on it. Garden snails then wandered about eating the algae , leaving random trails of clean plastic...
My tank was doing so good..... then the brush algae came. I had to trim the plants all the time just to keep the algae down. It's so gross looking. It looks like pubes. Anyone know a cure for it for sure?

This small pink lake is near the West Gate Freeway in Melbourne. It is a natural phenomenon in response to very high salt levels, high temperatures, sunlight and lack of rainfall. The salt lakes turn pink due to the natural interaction of a harmless alga and bacterium. Not sure if I would recommend swimming in it though!
