Schooner Alert at the Goelet Cup race on August 5, 1892. My colorization of the original image in the Library of Congress archive (Detroit Publising Co. collection).
The 92.5 feet schooner yacht Alert was built in Boston in 1888, according to the US Annual list of Merchant vessels. The owner was the New York millionaire John N. Luning (1859 - 1923).

First green bee of the season! I managed to get two shots, and this was the only decent one. I got too close, and... Gone!
Diana's peachicks - Miss them being this little, now they are the size of their big, beautiful mom.

The Provo Industrial Lead often borders major roads, especially State Street and Geneva Road. The LUL41 local has completed their work at Schaefer Industries as they pull down, and line the switch to drop a car of steel beams at Utah Pacific Bridge & Steel.
A lengthy line up of cars are stopped, waiting for the train to clear 200 South crossing just off Geneva Road in Lindon, Utah.

We saw this Roadrunner along the entrance road to Lagua Atascosa NWR. This guy/gal was kind enough to pose for a profile shot. This trip included three other roadrunner encounterse, a Harris' hawk, two armadillos, yesterday's Black-headed grosbeak, and assorted 'regular visitors. You have to love road trips with so much to show for them.
Shot at F5.6; one LED lamp. "Stay alert" is the new slogan (replacing "stay home") suggested by the British Prime Minister yesterday.
According to LiveScience.com, studies suggest this jumping-calling behavior is a test of the community's emergency alarm!
No it's not Star Wars. We had a brief frost yesterday morning so I dashed out in my dressing gown to take this photo of the icy patterns on the car spoiler. Mono image for the Weekly Colour Challenge
After I took this photo, my boyfriend had a go at the same subject and took this. As I was waiting for Michael to take his shot, a tall man suddenly and slowly picked a street bin, raised it over his head and threw it at Michael, luckily landing about a meter in front of Michael and his beloved camera. He did not want his picture taken.
This buck was nibbling acorns when he alerted to a couple of does. No chasing does anymore. They just came up and dined together. We will know the rut is ended for sure when the bucks start forming small bachelor bands again. Our beautiful world, pass it on.
