this Cheetah had made a kill and was resting after eating.

It had heard lions roaring nearby and is on high alert, raising its head regularly above the grass to check the area.

After spending some time with this beautiful cat we moved on and found 2 big male lions and a female a few hundred meters away.

Early morning sunlit Snipe

Cleo in the garden this morning. Her expression and the hedgehog hairdo are due to the dogs being noisy on the other side of the fence. The dogs were barking because they wanted to intimidate Filou which worked very well. I don't think that they had noticed Cleo because usually they have a certain respect for her. A moment after I took this photo she ran over to the fence, hit one of the dogs on the nose and suddenly there was silence on the other side of the fence.

Moderate risk with rough or very rough seas, possible coastal erosion and delays to maritime connections. Caution is advised, especially for recreational boating and beach activities, which may be prohibited. It is necessary to secure objects exposed to the wind, avoid piers and breakwaters, and pay attention to areas near the coast.

I saw this lioness is low scrub close to a dry creek bed in Kruger National Park. She has left her cubs in the creek bed about 300 metres distant. I assume she was looking to find her family breakfast, although her attention seemed to be on her babies, since that's where she's looking. I would never have seen her cubs had she not looked in their direction. They were too far away and too well hidden for photos.

A herd of spotted deers (chitals) interrupted and alerted by something in the middle of a road crossing. Sure enough, after a little further we saw a tiger.

This sparrow (ID? not sure...) was sitting in the top of the bushes, but when it realized that I had stopped and was watching closely, it got more alert, then headed off to another location. Shot near the Willamette River in downtown Portland, Oregon USA

This male Anna's hummingbird was ready and alert, leaning forward slightly, ready to fly off. I just love his tiny little feet. He's got an impressive gorget in my opinion. Come springtime, he'll be able to use that to his advantage. Those flashy colors attract the ladies.

Earlier I already posted a picture of this roe in between the bushes where she has fled into it because of a passing cyclist (www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/53962995818/in/datepo...). This was a moment before when she was grazing very peacefully although she had found out there was somebody pointing a camera at her.

It is one of those moments that you remember for the rest of your life because the whole setting breathed peace and tranquillity. For me the reason to go out as much as possible. With nature I connect, far away as possible from human society.

A prairie dog barks about a potential threat to alert its neighbors. They are such fascinating little animals to observe!

On a technical note, I am so impressed with the image quality I am getting with the 800mm PF lens and the Z mount 1.4x teleconverter!

Thanks so much to everyone who takes the time to view, like or comment on my photos!

The eastern kingbird family were showing off their beauty today, 3 juveniles and 2 adults

There are a lot of mule deer near the base of the eastern hills in the Bear Lake Valley, Idaho. The snow isn't as deep there so they usually find food, but they still look very thin. They watched us carefully but stayed near their food source instead of running away. We hope the plants start to leaf out soon so these beautiful animals can survive.

Something caused this juvenile tiger to pause for a long look. This is one of three juvenile tiger siblings (two male and one female) that we sighted in Ranthambore National Park, India. It's rare to sight multiple tigers because they are solitary animals that will sometimes fight to the death over territory. We were very fortunate to see them in open ground and good light. We sighted three at once because they are siblings still under the protection of their mother. Male tigers have very large territories and can have multiple tigress territories within their own. There are now about 70 adult tigers in the park, which once had numbers as low as 16 or 17. The area remained mostly wild because little of it is suitable for agriculture. Tigers have unique stripe patterns so they are tracked and monitored by motion-sensitive cameras.

—from Wikipedia

Ranthambore National Park is a national park in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It covers a total area of 1,334 km2 (515 sq mi). It is bounded to the north by the Banas River and to the south by the Chambal River. It is named after the historic Ranthambore Fort, which lies within the park. Ranthambore National Park was established as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in 1955, initially covering an area of 282 km2 (109 sq mi). It was declared one of the Project Tiger reserves in 1974. It was declared as a national park in 1980.

There's not much that would bother a Sparrowhawk in an urban garden (probably a domestic cat) but they're on full alert at all times. Not long after this was taken it flew away with its prey (Starling).

Brown Hare, despite the end of the breeding season these hares are still showing regularly, I sit for hours watching their antics sometimes I think they're watching me as well.
