My friend Tudela was taught the little secrets of the sea from a very young age and since then he has not stopped his curiosity about the world of underwater fishing. He is a person with character and clear ideas, dedicated to the sea and his family.

Preventive work is our most important investment today and like most preventive actions, it turns out much cheaper in the long run. Much cheaper than rescuing a kid once he’s lost to the streets. The Hummingbird Project attends 600 kids today, many of them in the same situation as Alberto. If we can save these kids from hitting the streets, we haven’t only done them a big favour; we have also saved the Brazilian society for another great big headache, on top of all the other headaches this country is suffering from.
There is a smile appearing on Alberto’s face. It is a sign of hope. Like most of the kids we work with, it represents their hope of better future.
There are thousands of kids in Norway who help us out with their fundraising efforts in support of the Hummingbird Activity Centre here in São Paulo, which again supports kids like Alberto through various preventive actions.
This recent documentary film about Hummingbird shows a little more about the background for our existence and the reasons we carry on with what we still do after 12 very tough years in a society that has forgotten far too many of its next generation.
Like the thousands of kids in Norway, Brazil has to start caring, and to start caring it needs to turn thoughts into actions. Mere words are not enough. The children cannot wait until the next chapter in their history has been written..., and forgotten once again.
