John Steuart Curry Born: Dunavant, Kansas 1897 Died: Madison, Wisconsin 1946 oil on canvas 36 1/4 x 48 1/4 in. (92 x 122.5 cm) Smithsonian American Art Museum Gift of Peter and Paula Lunder 2001.95 Smithsonian American Art Museum
Curry created this painting of green pastures and fat cattle to reassure Americans worn down by the Dust Bowl years. A prize bull fills the canvas, grazing contentedly in meadows that fall away on all sides. Cowbirds light daintily on his back, feeding on the insects that would otherwise torment him. This image slyly evokes the myth of Ajax, the Trojan hero who went mad and slew all of his army’s cattle, thinking they were his enemies. Curry's Ajax stands between the viewer and the herd, his one wary eye suggesting that the cows might get their revenge.
Quel na sequência do forte "Ajax".

As a puppy, Ajax liked to sleep on my lap. I think he would still do it, but now, he's a bit too big to fit.
Last week I went to San Francisco to work at The Ajax Experience conference, which took place at the Grand Hyatt hotel just off Union Square. The Adobe presence at the show for the most part was a table/booth where I was staffed to answer questions. I'm pleased that the traffic was steady, and to find that many Ajax developers were still keeping an open mind about our products.
I got to have lunch with Steven Yen, who's the author of the JavaScript framework called Junction. The Junction framework can be boiled down to "JavaScript on Rails" and is based off the Ruby on Rails (RoR) server framework. Among the more advanced features of the framework are client data synchronization with a server based on Java and Rhino.
I gave a presentation on "Taking Your Web Development Skills to the Desktop with Adobe AIR" which was well attended. The conference overall was probably around 400, and I had about sixty (60) attendees, even though the session was up against three others, including one from John Resig, creator of the jQuery framework. The audience asked great questions, and the presentation was a big success.
Kevin Lynch gave the Friday keynote where he gave a talk around some of the challenges facing the web today. Among those included rich media, where he introduced the new FAVideo component developed by Grant Skinner for Adobe. I had the chance to provide feedback on the component and guide some of the API's so I feel somewhat attached to it. The presentation on the whole was well received, with attendees telling me afterwards that the message "hit the ball out of the park."
As if that wasn't enough, Friday night I attended and presented at Flex Camp. The event was run by Mike Potter and resulted in around 300 attendees. "Camp" events are more an open forum than a traditional conference. Mike (and team) did a great job of getting the right atmosphere. My favorite give-away was the "Flex Camp" beer mug. My session introduced Flex developers to AIR, and despite some technical hiccups along the way, the topic was well received.

Ajax Amsterdam 2004 Away shirt. Now I can look just like John O'Brien. Interesting side note, the first real soccer shirt I ever owned was the 1994-1995 Ajax 3rd shirt. I still have it and wear it frequently.
According to the standard catalog of Farm Tractors, the Ajax Auto Traction Company was in business around 1912 and closing shortly after that. Some google searching came up with dates of 1909-1912, and also a picture of a No 2 tractor. No information on how many were made or if any still exist.

Detail of the sixth-century BC François Vase, made in Athens for an Etruscan patron and discovered about halfway between Florence and Rome in the mid-19th century. This scene from The Iliad on the vase's handle shows Ajax carrying the limp corpse of Achilles.
