The main mosque in Ahmedabad is the Jama Masjid (Friday Mosque). It was commissioned by Ahmed Shah I for his private use and was completed in 1424. The yellow sandstone building incorporates material from demolished Hindu and Jain temples. This photograph is of part of the main prayer hall, which has 260 intricately carved columns and 15 domes.
