Adalaj Stepwell is a unique Hindu 'water building' in the village of Adalaj, close to Ahmedabad town in Gandhinagar district in the Indian state of Gujarat. The stepwell was built in 1499 by Muslim king Mohammed Begda for Queen Rani Roopba, wife of Veer Singh, the Vaghela chieftain. The step well or 'Vav', as it is called in Gujarati, is intricately carved and is five stories deep. Such step wells were once integral to the semi-arid regions of Gujarat, as they provided water for drinking, washing and bathing. These wells were also venues for colorful festivals and sacred rituals.

Old Ahmedabad city, Gujarat's commercial and financial centre, was encompassed within a fort. Bhadra fort once believed to have 12 darwajas (gates) actually has 21 darwajas. Each of the darwaja has beautiful carvings, calligraphy and some of them even balconies.
These entrances to the city has a unique name. Pretty much the area surrounding these gates have adopted the name of darwaja as the name of the locality.
Delhi Darwaja (Dilli Darwaja) - Delhi Darwaja, as the name suggests was a transit point to the capital Delhi.
Jama Mosque of Ahmedabad is one of the most beautiful mosques in India. It was built in the year 1423 by the founder of the city, Sultan Ahmed Shah, and is located in the old city. Built in yellow sandstone, this monument is capable of outshining any other monument of Ahmedabad. Jama Masjid is a fine example of Indo Saracenic architecture, with the special touch of the Sultan himself. It presents an extraordinary blend of Hindu and Muslim styles of architecture.
The historians refer to it as the most beautiful mosque of the east. It is an imposing structure in the center of the old city and rests on 260 pillars, supporting fifteen domes. The splendid mosque took approximately 13 years to get fully constructed. It is indeed a master piece of the Ahmedabadi eclectic style. Mesmerized by its beauty, Sir John Marshal classified it as a classic example of architecture of its time in the entire world.
