"Now the universe left you for a runner's lap
It feels like home when it comes crashing back
And it makes you laugh and it makes you cry
When London falls and you're still alive
The radio stutters, it makes you laugh
And the aftermath, open up your eyes
You're so alive..." (Aftermath - REM)
Tornado ripped through Queens and Brooklyn on 9/16. The one in Queens touched down in my neighborhood. The aftermath was incredible. It is really rare to get such a disaster in Queens!
Family dinner at the local pizza joint. The locusts swarmed and left disaster in their wake. iPhone Photo.

Aftermath of an early morning single vehicle car accident in the New Vernon section of Harding Township, New Jersey.
March 4, 2012. At approximately 2:00am a white BMW sped through the intersection of Spring Valley Road and Dickson's Mill Road in New Vernon. The driver failed to slow down a 90-degree t-shaped intersection, knocking down an electric and telephone utility pole and then crashing through a steel guard rail. The automobile came to rest only about 10 feet from a private residence. No other details are yet available.
Once I saw this book on display at Barnes & Nobles I knew that I would not be taking pictures of the Christmas dinner aftermath.

So after what seemed like a promising beginning to spring ended with a last minute snowstorm after 5:30 this morning. I had read the storm warning yesterday when checking the weather, but when I woke up this morning and couldn't get back to sleep I was relieved to see the streets were still bare. When I finally did fall back asleep I awoke to fine the view from windows to be a grey flurry of snow and rooftops covered in white. Not impressed.
I had sort of fancied going out today, since I was home all yesterday preparing for what turned out to be a very successful party (no pictures though, wasn't in the photographing mood), quite possibly one of our largest ever. No broken glasses, although one of the coat hooks snapped because there were too many coats hung on it. Nothing that a little glue won't fix though. In what was a rather miraculous feat all of the food was eaten and so all we're left to clean up today is a few loads of plates and glasses in the dishwasher and some crumbs here and there.
Taken for Jan 2012 MSH #2 - Same Proceedure as Every Year
Wish the clean-up was as entertaining as the decorating.
I stopped by the BMW shop in Birmingham on the way home to drool on the new toys, and they were having a 30% off sale on gear, so I was able to replace the gloves that wore out on the trip.
The aftermath of Christmas morning.

The old, disused Methodist chapel on Lambert Street has burned down. Accident, malice or greed? Unknown (other than by the perpetrator) as of now.
Aftermath of Typhoon Melor (Typhoon 20W)
Saipan was spared as the typhoon Melor shifted far enough north, winds were not as strong as feared.
The moan damage was to banana plants, which are not very resistant to strong winds.

The first few months of 2011 saw Australia experience some of the worst natural disasters on record. Floods in southern Queensland stole lives and devastated large parts of the state, while further north Cyclone Yasi battered many communities. Victoria experienced its worst flooding in decades, and in the Kimberley, widespread flooding caused mass evacuations of homes.
My view of the aftermath of the fire that nearly claimed my dad's house. Some of the "burn" has washed away and the grass is starting to grow back but it still tells an interesting tale. The yard was divided in half. The left side is essentially what it looked like before and the right side is after. You would think that during a burn ban and water restriction, when yards look like they do on the left side, that you wouldn't throw something ON FIRE into the yards. It only makes sense really.

No structural damage, but severe damage to their trees and to their aluminum siding. Large sections of it have been ripped away in this picture, and in some cases so, too, have the sheets of insulation beneath..
They probably would have taken a lot more damage had they not literally just had a new roof installed.
