I ran into a guy here who had been out in Astoria Park the night before when trees started falling over. Everyone knows to stay away when the ground is super saturated, but we got very little precipitation from this event. The wind did the lion's share of the work. Afterwards, I walked over to the East side of the park, where I encountered multiple downed trees, but also couples and kids strolling through the park. As I looked across the East River at the Manhattan Skyline, I realized just how much being stranded in Queens made me miss the rush of midtown. While the damage is over, most of us are stranded in our neighborhoods, as subway service will not be back for at least "3 or 4 days, maybe more," according to Mayor Bloomberg. Certainly I'm not the only one with cabin fever.

RCR CAR V STOBIE POLE

This van was next to the car that was completely smashed, only caught a corner of the van though.

When Jim and Ginger returned in March, we put in the wall cabinet.

So many dishes, so little dishwasher space.

I thought I am just watching Evan Almighty as I look at this raging water in front of my house. More than 20 cars already gone !

2 Feb 2011.

So some of you asked for an update after I posted the video of last night's "event." Here it is, and you get to hear me talk throughout the recording.

Not sure if you can see, but the street still is covered with drifting snow. There's no way I'm attempting to drive yet. Blizzard conditions still exist with the way the wind is blowing, despite the sunshine. Authorities are still telling us to stay home if we don't absolutely need to go somewhere. It's still that dangerous. The winds should subside by this afternoon, and then the plowing will be able to fully clear our streets and parking lots so we can move again.

This is the kind of snow I was used to having when I was a kid in the 1970s and 80s. I enjoyed it MUCH more back then.

A moodier side of Algonquin.

Entangled around the base of a water 'bubbler' is debris from last night's torrent. At the base of the debris is a small log. Location is Brisbane, Australia.

This happens every time. Every. Single. Time.

Worse, this is just the short end of an L-shaped workbench. And the floor is just about as bad.

Peanut warning had no effect.

I moved into my brother's room after the Christmas festivities to help accommodate all the visitors. He has some interesting lighting in his room which makes it a good place to play around with my camera. Plus, I didn't really want to leave this chair after eating all the ham, turkey, lobster, stuffing, potatoes, etc.

By the way, you can also see one of my presents in this pic--a Nikon HB-45 lens hood. It's a rare one. Also... Can you spot Domo-kun?

The aftermath of the dinner party resulted in a styrofoam cup in the tea candle floating in water upon the shelf.... must have been a good night then.

The main hall, after everyone has gone home. It's hard to believe it's all over. But we will always have our memories.

Note: left a/c on. So much for Hodg*Con's "environmental message."

That is all.
