My father and the Jowett.
The Canon EOS Photo5 competition is over for 2009. There were 5 briefs and this is one of my test shots. I spent countless hours designing shots, thinking up ideas and taking advice, so I thought it was a shame not to put these up on the internet for others to view. This is one of the ideas I did not use.
This is an example of my Portraiture test photos.

The shots were all taken with a Canon 30D.
I have used the Canon logo on the watermark so I hope Canon don't mind and see this as advertising for next years event in 2010 :)
The 2009 5 briefs were:
Splat (Capturing Action)
"This is a messy brief. The task is to capture liquid in motion. The supplied powdered paint is child safe and you can consider it a starter splat. If you run out feel free to adlib with other liquids like milk, mud or paint but NOT water. USE ONLY OPAQUE LIQUIDS!, Your image needs to capture liquid in action and not the aftermath. If it’s still dripping, flying through the air or splashing, it qualifies."
Close up (100s and 1000s)
"This small candy brief is all about getting your lens close to the object. You must feature these tiny hundreds & thousands but you don’t need to use them all, and if you need more you are free to source your own."
Bokeh (Experimental)
"Photography was born from those who loved to experiment. This is a lesser known experiment that has been around since photography first began.You must choose and attach only one of the supplied Bokeh hoods to the front of your lens when you create your image. This brief will require a little more prep work but the effect is well worth the patience."
Portraiture (Glasses)
"This is a portraiture brief where you must feature the supplied black spectacles. Other than that its open to your interpretation. Consider your lighting choices and your choice of subject. The winning image will present the viewer with just as many questions as answers. A portrait is all about capturing a personality and you don't necessarily need to see the whole person (or all of the glasses) to achieve that."
Practically Black (Low light)
"Practically black is an OPEN BRIEF which means that even those who have missed out on this years EOS Photo5 box can still enter. This is the first year a brief like this has existed. The ‘Practically Black’ brief is about shooting in dark situations while still maintaining details in the image. We expect to receive very moody imagery for this brief."

I think we are now eating a Western Diet. This is my order of Chicken at KFC at SM City Cebu.
After watching a live band at SM North Wing with Adlib Band, who serenades us with classic music, we dine at KFC.
A medical machine for pulmonary ventilation plays a musical chord on a few organ pipes, a fragment of music (in reference to Johannes Brahms’ *German Requiem*) frozen to the constant rhythm of the automatic breath. The action of this artificial organ raises ethical questions about the will and responsibility involved in this mechanical requiem, a metaphor for a limit that people delegate to technology.

A collab production with Adlib, Muger and Boed, this one was a wall we are still really proud of and marked the day I got put down with GM.
Boed painted an ILL menacing closeup of the Hulk and everyone came correct on pieces.
My daughter and I will be appearing in a play next weekend, for three nights. This was taken at the first dress rehearsal.
The play is a comedy, called Stand and Deliver, set in a maternity ward. I play the horrible mother of a teenage mum.

Taken from the northeast corner of the property. If you look closely, the "Joliet" line of this sign was a paint-over. Beatty left its Orland Park yard when Orland began their land grab for the upscale redevelopment of the "Metra Triangle" along 143rd Street & LaGrange Road. Beatty relocated to the outskirts of Joliet along the former EJ&E and even arranged for a spur track to lead into their new location. Sadly, this was just when the housing bubble popped and the entire chain closed shortly thereafter.

Climbing with Martin and Adam followed by an interesting evening with Jenny Chapman and John Orchard in Twenty 2s. Conversation included the election of Ed Miliband as Leader of the Labour Party, Property Development, atheism and reading groups.

Steinar Raknes og Unni Wilhelmsen played at the AdLib Jazz Club in Sinus at Stormen Concert Hall in Bodø, Norway, May 13th 2023.
Steinar is a Norwegian jazz and roots musician, touring both with his own band, Stillhouse, as a solo artist and in other constellations.
Unni Wilhelmsen has had a very successful solo career for 30 years and is also a part of the huge Norwegian band Di Derre.

I took many shots for this brief. I had been playing with Bokeh before this brief was announced so I already had some idea how to do this.
"Fairy Princess looking for home" or " Starry Starry Night"
