Friedrich “Fritz” Carl Woldemar Weidemann (* 10 May 1886 in Riga; † 5 March 1953 in Berlin) was a German theatre and silent film actor and screenwriter.
Weidemann, a son of the mechanic Robert Weidemann and his wife Leontine, née Niggel, was engaged at various provincial theaters from 1902 onwards before being hired in Berlin in 1910. There he discovered silent film. After his debut with a sound picture, the Baltic German played in several films by Urban Gad with Asta Nielsen in 1912/13 (e.g. Der Totentanz, 1912; Die Sünden der Väter, 1912/13; Die Filmprimadonna, 1913). He was seen in Stellan Rye's horror classic The Student of Prague with Paul Wegener in 1913, playing the baron killed by Balduin's Doppelgänger, while in 1915 he played Dr. Falck in a drama with Henny Porten directed by Rudolf Biebrach: Das grosse Schweigen.
In February 1916, Weidemann founded Oto Film GmbH, with which he produced and directed the film Jihad/Dschihad. Der heilige Krieg. he also acted in Frauen, die sich opfern (Richard Eichberg, 1916) with Ellen Richter, According to his own statements, Weidemann also wrote several screenplays for productions, the titles of which, however, are unknown. The 1918 Carl Auen crime thriller Das Tagebuch des Apothekers Warren, in which he co-starred with Lori Leux and Erner Hübsch, is his last known film.
In the 1920s, Weidemann supported himself by writing propaganda pamphlets and song lyrics. After the Nazi seizure of power, Weidemann, a member of the Nazi Party, attempted to return to the film industry, but was unsuccessful. He eventually devoted himself entirely to commercial activities and ultimately managed a restaurant. He died in 1953 at the Dominikus Hospital in Berlin-Hermsdorf. From 1925 until his death, Fritz Weidemann was married to the singer Gertrud Meißner.
