Another rainy Melbourne day. I was planning to spend the day in the city to get some street shots, but gave up because it was so cold and wet (in an Australian summer). I photographed the Victoria Police Academy in Glen Waverley instead.

This fine complex was originally built in the 1950s as Corpus Christi College, a Catholic Seminary (you'll still see the cross on the central tower). It was sold to the police in 1972.

2002 Bluebird International 3800. According to Vantage this came from the Canisteo Central School District. This district merged with the Greenwood CSD in 2004, and this bus was part of that. So it came to Academy from the Canisteo-Greenwood CSD.

Note also that this was the only Academy 3800 around, unlike in the Dillyvlogs where they were a few

What kind of diploma does one get from this fine establishment?

"The Academy of Dreams"

The original school, Hand Academy, was gifted from Daniel Hand in 1884. Learn more about him at madisonhistory.org/daniel-hand/. It became a public high school in 1887. The original school building was demolished and replaced with the current building in 1921. The school was closed in 2004 and transferred to the Town of Madison in 2011.

Old photo from 2017. At this point, in 2023, we’re not sure the venue is even going to reopen after 2 people died in a crowd crush outside last year.

in september 1968, the royal academy in london, england, hosted a remarkable "50 years of bauhaus" exhibition. this extraordinary and unique german design and art school flourished between 1919 and 1933, but its influence is still felt today – even unknowingly by people who have never heard of it.

the bauhaus has touched on everything in life – architecture, art, furniture, fittings, typography, habidashery, photography and much more.

and by the way, the 363-page london book/catalogue (now very much a rarity) contains not a single capital letter! this is the cover, and more is here.

The Academy of Athens (Greek: Ακαδημία Αθηνών) is Greece's national academy, and the highest research establishment in the country. It was established in 1926, and operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Education. The Academy's main building is one of the major landmarks of Athens.

Heidelberg Print Media Academy

Scotland's national academy of art and architecture as seen from Hanover Street in Edinburgh. The academy was founded in 1826 by local artists and received a royal charter in 1838. Visitors to the city can spend a whole day admiring contemporary art here and then walk a few hundred feet to the Scottish National Gallery which sits directly behind it~!

The main building of the Academy of Athens is simply captivating. Perhaps since it is relatively modern, it is not a very busy attraction. Then again, there is not much to do if you are not a fan of architecture

Lunenburg Academy, Nova Scotia, was opened in 1895 and was built at a cost of $30,000. It was recently being used as an elementary school until closure in 2012. It is hoped that it will be used as a place of learning in the future and it is currently being restored.
