The Academy of Music Theatre, or Academy Theatre, opened in 1886 as an opera house. Sometime in the early 1900s the theater began showing movies. The theater closed after a fire in the late-1980s. As with many old theaters a community group was organized and raised sufficient funds to renovate and reopen the place. The Acacemy Theatre is now home to live productions (Oliver! opens in a couple of weeks).

Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada,
The Lunenburg Academy, built between 1893 en 1895, is an example of late 19th century Victorian architecture. It is a National Historic Site and still functions as a public school for the primary level, grades one to five. Each floor has six entrances, six classrooms and six staircases connecting up to the next level.
It is located at the top of Gallows Hill in Lunenburg.
Sited on a peninsula between two harbours, Lunenburg (pop. 2.800) is the prettiest and most colorful town in Nova Scotia. It features one of the best preserved examples of an 18th century British colonial town plan in North America, although most buildings standing today are from the 19th century, and some of the old wooden clapboards and shingles are replaced by plastic imitations.
Lunenburg's 'Old Town' is a 'UNESCO World Heritage Site' since 1995 (one of only two cities in North America to enjoy that status).

In 2007 Florida-based developer George Traikos purchased the four-story Class A/R structure from a local investment group. Aided by historic tax credits, Traikos successfully remodeled the Academy Building into a mixed-use development featuring lofts, WiFi, and a fitness center for tenants. The LEED Green Building Rating System was followed. The renovation was completed in September 2013.
