This panorama was merged from 3 single shots taken from the tripod with the Apo-Vario-Elmarit 90-280mm at 225 focal length. All the mountains at the background are belonging to Ammergauer Alpen. I masked the sky in Lightroom after merging in order to be able to edit both sky and the mountains separately to optimize colours and contrast.
I was really pleased by the glow that was still shining at the mountain tops.

This building looks nothing like this now - completely renovated. Glad they were able to save it.
The collapse in freight traffic means that the Lithuanian railway are now able of employing the modern Eurorunner type diesel locomotives for all services including the passenger trains destined for Kaliningrad. Here, in gloomy weather conditions, ER20 023 is passing the "Chernobyl bridge" - so called since it featured in the recent TV miniseries about the 1986 nuclear disaster as the infamous "Bridge of Death" - with train 79 from St. Petersburg-Moskovskiy to Kaliningrad-Yuzh. Behind the loco is a postal van. Kaunas, 15-08-2023.
Many people enjoy being able to add the sparrowhawk to their list of garden visitors, but others are not so sure. Try to take the view that having a sparrowhawk visiting your garden is a good thing - the presence of such a top predator indicates that the bird population in your area is doing well.
Even though sparrowhawks feed almost exclusively on small birds, they do not affect their overall numbers. Songbirds produce far more young every year than would be needed to maintain the population. All these extra birds will die of starvation, disease or predation before the following breeding season and there would not be enough territories or food for so many.
Deterrents
If you feel you must deter the sparrowhawk, there are a few deterrents available, although their effectiveness is dependent on the availability of alternative feeding sites for the hawk. Rather than deter them, try to learn to admire the skill and beauty of this very specialised hunter.
Bamboo canes on lawn to turn fast approach route into an obstacle course.
Half-full plastic bottles or CDs hung up in trees to scare the predators away.
If feeders are under an overhang (eg under tree branches) hang strings like bead curtain strands a few inches apart around the perimeter of the overhang to slow down the hawk.
The GuardnEyes scarecrow balloon works by introducing, what the hawk believes to be, a higher level of predation, so that it in turn feels stalked. If alternative feeding areas exist, the hawk may be encouraged to move elsewhere.

I will try to respond to your comments as I am able.
Thank you all for your continued support.
While visiting in Maine was able to meet up with a co-worker that retired last year. Had a good time with them, and was able to meet up with them at their parent's house out on the peninsula that ends at Pemaquid. The home there is on the river front side, and not the ocean. Quite the view there at sunset ... perfect with a bench too. Of course sitting there without a bucket of "OFF" to keep the mosquitoes away is a must in the Summer :)
Now able to name the plant more accurately, not as I previously thought, but it is certainly striking with almost black leaves deeply cut and with large umbels of white and pink florets. The whole plant stands out so strongly from the extensive greenery of most gardens.
Finally I was able to track down this beautiful bird’s nest. Surprisingly there was this little woodpecker baby growing in it.
On the southern side of the St Helens Conservation Area is an extensive area of tall sand dunes. Four Wheel driving is allowed in one area but from what I could see they do manage to get to the area near the entrance to Beer Barrel Beach (which is allowed) plus other areas. The dunes are soft and tall with some of the sand covered in grass and other successional vegetation further to this shot. There is a fairly steep drop off to the native bush behind the photo.
The sand dunes are home to some endangered Plovers who nest closer to the beach.
I was only able to go part of the way along the various tracks as I didn't have a 4WD vehicle and was on my own without phone coverage. parks.tas.gov.au/things-to-do/four-wheel-driving-(4wd)/peron-dunes
This is the rear entrance to an old office building on 6th street here in Austin, Texas. Probably built around 1860 or so. I took it this last weekend while down at the Pecan street festival. There weren't any really great shots from the festival but I was able to get some cool shot from town.
Phew! Here we are, already humpday..;))
Was able to align this one up neat while walking around the place we stayed while visiting Pemaquid, Maine.
Another image capture and of my first attempts at working with the built-in function for HDR type images in my Nikon D800E. Having remembered the need to stand as still as I could (no tripod with me) I was able to minimize the movement of tree leaves...even as my body moved as so slightly. Anywho, I then worked with color control points and a few CEP filters (Low Key, Polarization and Darken/Lighten Center) in Capture NX2 for the final image.
JMT DAY 2 - MILKY WAY OVER BANNER PEAK SEEN FROM ISLAND PASS
Milky Way over Banner Peak seen from Island Pass: JMT201802003
The night was calm, and the sky was clear of smoke. The faint Milky Way got slowly brighter as the sky got darker. Thousands of stars were strewn across the heavenly body. Soon Mars followed, and its bright reflection in the lake was just unmistakable.
Mars is the planet that everyone who is into us becoming an interplanetary species is looking at lately. But, let alone the fact that we wouldn’t be able to breathe or walk around like we do here on earth, there is no water that we can call lakes and walk around.
It is projected that it would take at least six months to travel to Mars one way. And space radiation is considered number one risk in sending humans to Mars at this point. I understand that it is the first step to become an interplanetary species, followed by more space travels and planet discoveries in the future, although many will be born on other planets once we become a true interplanetary species, I wonder if it is truly worth leaving everything behind.
But one thing is certain. Our galaxy would look the same when it were seen from Mars.
Shot with Samyang 12mm. This is panorama with 4. It was great night, milkyway was visible with naked eye, and amazing long weekend spent with my family. I was able to shot a lot of photos and this is first one I wanted to brag about :)
Kaszuby, Poland - amazing place for photography - great place for peacefull holidays
Was able to catch a police car going by with the lights on in this, as you can see with the blue/red streaks
Because a light haze unusually appeared on that day of summer, I was able to take the sun in a right circle. The mountain in the background was hidden by the haze.

I'm continuing to (finally) scan the remaining prints from my first Holga rolls.
That damned boat again! And clouds, mmmmm... c-l-o-u-d-s [e-drool> Just more chaos for your viewing pleasure. ;)
As mentioned, I just really played, trying to see for myself what I can and cannot do w/ this wondrous little camera -- testing it through a range of conditions, knowing much of it would not work out. So, I look forward to refinements & being able to post some better shots.
Thank you for taking a look! ^_^
This is the first winter that I have had Common Redpolls visit my feeders in the backyard. Since the weather is getting warmer, they will soon be returning to their summer homes far north.
I am posting the only photo that I was able to get of one in the sunshine.
Watching the sunlight peeking in our new home.
After opening my balcony blinds this morning, I realized that I will be able to see hot air balloons out my window. I will need a zoom lens to take pics of them. :D
Mirinda is wearing an outfit by mistmatchfusion. Thank you Deeya for the trade!!! and her Blythe and the city kitty bow! Thank you so much Katja!! Love it so much!
One that's a bit more dreamy / artsy than the stuff I do nowadays, from the good old times, the humble beginnings of my macro endeavors.
It was done with my very first budget rig, where I reverse mounted vintage primes to be able to get close. I had two ROKKORs, a 50mm and a 28mm which basically were my only means to control the reproduction ratio, besides extension tubes. No focusing via the lens (does not work when mounted backwards), only by hand / movement, so I was switching back and forth between those two and screwing around with (these ultra cheap) extension rings a lot in order to do some rudimentary framing.
I remember hardly seeing anything through the viewfinder, it was soo dark due to no aperture coupling, the diffusor blocking the light from the sky and also having to get super close. But it was good, fun, and exciting.
I feel these images from back then have a distinct mood, some kind of vintage flavor.

Once the ponds freed from Ice the Eiders moved in and were photographable. Although we found few Eiders along the roads.
By glassing from the top of the Rental Van I was able to locate them in various distant ponds and with short hikes we were able to photograph them.
I always try when possible to get both the female and males when together, In this image I captured each Independently as they swam by to get each in focus and then stitched them together in post. Otherwise they were too close to photograph with each in same the frame.
The convenience of being able to turn on a faucet and have running water, especially hot running water, is something that I have enjoyed all my life, and definitely take for granted. Here in the midwest water is abundant, and we have only once in my memory experienced drought conditions where we were told to limit water use. It’s easy to forget that in many parts of the world clean water is non-existant and people sometimes have to walk miles for their daily water supply. I’m very thankful to be living in an area of the world where clean water is so readily available.

Females may be able to retain sperm, and females held in confinement have been able to lay fertile eggs. Varanus niloticus has been demonstrated to be capable of parthenogenesis. The main breeding season is June to September. Males, however, begin to show combat behaviour in April. Females dig a nest hole in level ground or a vertical bank and lay the eggs inside, filling it up and using their snouts to compact the soil. The females often dig false nests nearby and shovel soil around the area. They sometimes make use of a termite mound to nest. A single clutch of about 20 eggs are laid. The eggs hatch in 168 to nearly as long as 254 days.[18] About 40 to 80% of the eggs may hatch
I capture this Snowy Owl ten minutes after sunrise posed on a very nice perch. The light was an incredible orange pink and beautifully illuminated the bird. I think this may be my personal favorite image from the three days I spend chasing these owls. My goal this year was to get a good image of a Snowy, and I was willing to travel hundreds of miles to do so. Not only did I not have to travel hundreds of miles, I was able to capture images that far exceeded my expectations. This will be the last of my Snowy Owl images for a while, and I hope you enjoyed the ones that I have posted. Please view large for best Snowy Morning experience.
Thanks for stopping by ~!
What has become an annual event that just keeps on keeping on, is the Auto fest Spring car Nats held in Shepparton. Here is a link to the event organisers page, autofest.com.au/.
The event has been going for over 30 years, and for many there is no better way to spend the weekend than with like-minded people, as the entrants burn rubber with an excess of horsepower, that is thankfully quite obscene : )
There was and is everything from the go to woe, handling events, drifting, and of cause burn outs! Burnouts bouncing of the rev limiting, literally hitting the redline burnouts. How much rubber do they burn, enough so I can smell it from my house nearly a mile away : ) PS the smoke signals might be cultural appropriation, so some one should bring along a Pontiac and make it officially ok : P
Jack Danniels www.jackdaniels.com/en-au has a bar, so Tennessee is represented, although in the main part, not much American iron turns up at the event in comparison to the Australian contingent and Japanese cars.
V8s are the flavour, although you might be surprised like I was this year to see a Honda S2000 turn up, a pleasant inclusion, with one of the all-time great 4 bangers in it.
Black snot is a thing, that is if you can handle the close quarters action! You might like to take some year plugs, even then for about mile you will still be able to hear the cars at it.
As a car enthusiast I enjoy the day, friendly people getting their thing on, and having a great time.
PS. Make sure you drink lots of water, and keep hydrated!
I got the chance to explore around the east coast a bit last month while attending Canon and Ron Howard's Project Imaginat10n premiere in New York. While I was in Boston for a day I had the pleasure of being able to meet up with Zev here of Fiddle Oak and his sister/partner in crime Aliza .
If you care to know about the rest of my adventures east coast with Flickr friends I recorded them over on the
This is a true beauty! I missed a few times the Indian Prime Minister's plane, but this time I was able to spot it !! Here is 'Air India 1' taxiing to stand Sierra 6 Bravo with Indian PM Narendra Modi onboard, to meet French Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.
Those Jumbos are starting to be really rare nowadays!!
I was lucky enough to be able to shoot in a 1974 Lotus Eclat in great condition. I'd been planning to use my car, but jumped at the chance to use this due to it's classic nature, but mostly because my car is a heap!

Thanks for all the positive comments and favourites. In one day this single shot has become my most viewed. The usual average per day (according to the Stats) is 30 views. In the two days after posting this image I've had over 14,000 views!
I haven't been able to Flickr much or take many photos lately, other than the ones for work (existing towers and vacant land/woods for new-build sites, whcih is boring). I was out walking some sites with our A&E firm on a foggy morning a while back and shot this 240 footer with my work camera (my old point & shoot). Hopefully I'll be able to visit everyone's streams in the next few days.... Until then, hope you are enjoying your Easter weekend!
I was lucky (or mad) enough to be able to briefly make it to the coast for the epic thunderstorm of 18/19 July.
After finishing in the office late, I checked the storm progress and noticed it was kicking off in the English channel, so I hopped in the car and headed for Brighton to (hopefully) catch the incoming storm. Unfortunately, it seemed that the internet data was slightly delayed, since the bulk of the storm was passing overhead as I neared the South Coast.
Pulling up at the beach and finding a safe spot, I was limited on available compositions, but I had to take what I could because there was no way I was going to go set up on the exposed beach (like some other nutters had decided to do!).
I rattled off a few bulb exposures and in the fourth one I was lucky enough to catch this strike. A few minutes later, a wall of rain arrived and no more shots could be taken. The trail end of the storm has passed over and that was that.
Gutted I didnt make the coast earlier, but still glad I got lucky enough to catch this one strike.
I was able to have some nice visits with my campus pets on a lovely Autumn day in Ann Arbor. Here are Juvenile and adult fox squirrels on Thursday October 24th, 2019. I saw Peter La Fleur (from my Dodgeball mange quartet) this morning.
Spectacular sunset followed by lightening and thunder on the coast of Sydney. I haven't been able to capture good lightening strikes before so this was a treat!

More enticing trail at the Chequamegon-Nicolet NF. Such a privilege to be able to get out in it. A precious resource for sanity.

Snow, cold and wind greeted my early start this morning,I was going to go to Whitburn but the weather maps were not favourable so at the last minute I took a trip to Port Mulgrave, where I was able to test how waterproof my camera is,and came too close to taking flying lessons off the cliffs in a very strong wind.On the way back across the moors the snow came back, and boy does it look pretty.I've spent the rest of the day sneezing, can't think why ...
Best in lightbox.
Waxwings are so beautiful, yet they have been difficult for me to find in good light. Today, I was able to get some shots.

Before the smoky skies, I was able to go out to the garden and photograph. So far, the last 3 days have had unhealthy air quality. :o(

old song. please listen.
Some people live for the fortune
Some people live just for the fame
Some people live for the power, yeah
Some people live just to play the game
Some people think that the physical things
Define what's within
And I've been there before
But that life's a bore
So full of the superficial
Some people want it all
But I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you baby
If I ain't got you baby
Some people want diamond rings
Some just want everything
But everything means nothing
If I ain't got you, Yeah
Some people search for a fountain
That promises forever young
Some people need three dozen roses
And that's the only way to prove you love them
Hand me the world on a silver platter
And what good would it be
With no one to share
With no one who truly cares for me
Some people want it all
But I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you baby
If I ain't got you baby
Some people want diamond rings
Some just want everything
But everything means nothing
If I ain't got you, you, you
Some people want it all
But I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you baby
If I ain't got you baby
Some people want diamond rings
Some just want everything
But everything means nothing
If I ain't got you, yeah
If I ain't got you with me baby
So nothing in this whole wide world don't mean a thing
If I ain't got you with me baby
I was not able to go out and shoot astro since November, so I am editing older files.

Camino del Valle d'Arán quedamos con el amigo serafín que nos llevó a una charca donde convivían distintas especies.
Nunca había visto a Lestes virens y en un corto espacio de tiempo y espacio pude fotografiar macho y hembra.

Path of the Valle d'Arán we stayed with the friend seraph who took us to a pond where different species coexisted.
I had never seen Lestes virens and in a short space of time and space I was able to photograph male and female.
