The Banks get off lightly

Pardon my confusion, but I can't remember which island this is. It might be St. Barts, but we were in Barbados, and lots of other southern Caribbean islands on two cruises about that time.

The other side of that stone wall is a long ramp up to the fort where you see cannons. The Caribbean is full of old fortifications. This was one of the best. I think they must have fought a lot in those days.

I wonder if my memory lapse was caused by an alergic reaction to some medicine last winter. I had purple spots, dehydration, pneumonia, and falling down spells. It lasted for weeks and I couldn't eat because everything tasted like week-old garbage. I'm fine now, but my memory of that short period of time is a bit fuzzy.

The sunset of this evening wasn't pretty. A little disappointment.

Most people assume that moon's phases are caused by Earth's shadow. This is very incorrect. It's really very simple. We see the moon go through phases because the moon is a sphere, and (like Earth and the other planets) it can only be illuminated on the half facing towards the sun. The side facing away is dark. The moon orbits around us about once every month, thus we cannot always see the fully illuminated side. When we see the moon go through it's phases, we are literally seeing the moon go through day and night.

When Earth's shadow falls onto the moon, which happens rarely, it is called a lunar eclipse.
