I have been collecting Stone Mason signs for a while.
Each Mason had his own sign- . When churches, cathedrals, palaces were built the Masons would mark his stones with his personal sign- at the end of the day/week/months etc. the foreman would count the signs and the Masons would get paid for their work...
Some signs are still clear and easy to spot, others are only very faint due to exposure to the elements.
this series of signs was found on the walls of the Medieval cathedral at Montblanc
