Had the chance to spend a couple of days in Zion National Park. By pure lure a major storm was moving through. So all the normally-dry waterfalls were flowing. This strand was tumbling into the Virgin River just before "The Narrows".
While visiting Zion National Park in Utah last year, I tried very hard to find images that didn't comport with the typical tourist photo. Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of those and I enjoy them. I just want something a little less common here. This was taken at the north end of the park along the Virgin River. Enjoy!
This is the scene that greets you upon entering Zion National Park.
I'm beginning to wonder if the reservation system for the national parks is ever going away. It sure makes it hard to get in them these days.

A panoramic of the amazing hills in Zion National Park in the middle of one of the incredible hikes!
This is a place in Zion National Park known as the "Towers of the Virgin". From left to right, these peaks have been named West Temple, Sundial, and Altar of Sacrifice. It's a really easy place to shoot and I was all by myself there that morning.
Utah's spellbinding red-rock desert and high-altitude forests are just a few of the wonders to discover in heavenly Zion.

Shot from observation point in Zion National Park. A 4 mile hike from the valley floor will get you here...
I felt very lucky capturing this image. After passing this scene earlier in the day I quickly recognized it from other photographs I had seen online. At first the light was far from ideal and I thought that when we were to pass by the scene on our way back it surely would not be good either. I mean seriously, how often is the light ideal when you stumble across a great composition. Usually you have to plan this stuff and figure out what the best time is, and then you're usually battling with other photographers for a prime spot, which I absolutely hate. Well, on our way back the light just happened to be perfect, and there were no other photographers around. Definitely my favorite image from the trip and my favorite experience getting to hike the Zion Narrows. Awesome.
