Summer weather has stepped into view and it’s shown here with X370 rounding the bend into Collier yard here in Petersburg, Virginia.

As J783-13 pulls out a line of cars from Needmore yard to put on their train I went to scope out my next spot. Once I found it I walk up and wait from the train, next thing I know I look over at a Dayton Police officer staring at me with his binoculars. So I decided it was time to leave. He then followed me for 5 miles until he finally turned off. It was quite an experience to say the least

December 13, 2014: An EMD SD50-2 standard cab engine in YN3 paint leads a pair of GE AC4400CW engines in YN2 paint, as they bring loaded Grain Train CSX G129 Southbound over the old Western & Atlantic tracks by the county landfill in Emerson, GA.

SD40-3 and SD50-2 combination pulling hard and very well on freight train Q394-10, at the classic railfanning location of Sand Patch in Somerset County, PA. Conveniently the train was running on Track 1 which made for a better photograph. CSX 4234 was recently rebuilt and is a former Conrail.

January 20, 2018: An EMD SD70MAC in YN3 paint leads empty coal train CSX E321 (Cross, SC-Evansville, IN) through the Lakepoint S curve at Emerson, GA on the CSX Western & Atlantic Subdivision. Sadly, a new overpass bridge is now being constructed, thus taking away this scenic wooded view.

A NRE 2GS14B, number SPAX 70, sits just East of Woodbourne Yard. There was a problem with the signal at CP Woodobourne, so this train, CSXT X980, and the C770 were held on the main until the problem was fixed.

A CSXT YN3 Dash 9 is the one and only unit for BNSF train U-OKCEOC0-01T moving north up Track 81 of the KCT North-South Corridor past the historic Kansas City Live Stock Exchange building in the West Bottoms. They'll be leaving town via the BNSF Brookfield Sub today.

This is one of CSX's original 53 early production Dash 9's, built with Dash 8 carbodies and GSC FB-3 trucks. 6/8/25.

With a wet and flat sky hanging overhead, CSX Q125, what was daily traffic from Memphis to I think Jacksonville, Florida at the time, or maybe Savannah, Georgia makes its way south. Seen here approching the North End of Acworth siding on W&A subdivision the veteran C40-8W in YN2 leads the mostly international intermodal train south.

CSX M775 (Tullahoma,TN Local) is sitting in the siding facing south under the power of CSX 6966 and 2366. CSX GP40-2 6966 and its crew is waiting on a southbound coal train to surpass them. Shortly after the photo was taken N303 passed, and the M775 went on south.

CSX 9280, the only C40-8 painted in corporate YN3, leads L091 east through Lincoln on the way to Mattawamkeag.

With a trio of older AC44CWs (and dang which ever booth painted number 8) G377 rolls south by the southern most crossing of Old Halls Station Rd. The train is more than half way to Atlanta and will be passing through the tiny town of Kingston, Georgia shortly.

April 21, 2018: CSX empty ethanol train K617 (Cartersville, GA-Harrisville, IN) motors Northbound over the old Western & Atlantic Subdivision, with an AC4400CW GE in YN3 paint leading a Tier 4 ET44aH GE engine. The train is seen here just North of Kingston, GA passing one of the many small rural homes along the line.

With permission to come south to work North Yard, Q541-16 is lead by CSX 7009, a rebuilt GE CM44AH, pulls under the new overpass of US Highway 41.

A trio of GE CW44AC's, two in YN2 and one in YN3, rest under the starry night sky at RJ Corman's South Union siding with half a grain train for CSX interchange.

May 7, 2020: An SD40-2 EMD in YN3 paint, leads a rebuilt CM44AH GE engine in YN3b paint, as they bring empty grain train CSX V376 (Athens, GA-Martinsville, IL) Northbound on the CSX W&A Subdivision at Cartersville, GA.

A nice lashup of six CSX locomotives in the yard near the Newport News Amtrak Station.

The Clinchfield Railroad lives as oil loads come into Northtown with CSXT 8335 and two pumpkin GE's.

The leader is going for its 50 year pin, built as The Clinchfield #3000 in September of 1966. What other engine series can claim that it has survived in mainline service for nearly 50 years, and without leaving its original owner and successor in the process? The CSX has them all, even if they are becoming more rare by the day.

With a YN2 AC60CW leading, a southbound screams into downtown Cartersville, Georgia on its way to Cartersville. Best I can remember this was a W&A train but I have no clue what the symbol was.

January 8, 2013: CSX Autorack train Q242 (Lawrenceville, GA-Louisville, KY) passes the old Western & Atlantic depot in downtown Cartersville, GA as it heads North with a CSX SD60M EMD engine in YN2 paint leading the run. This train has since been abolished, and the SD60M is now sporting a YN3 paint job.

SEPTA Silverliner IV #410 rolls eastbound towards Yardley, PA as CSX mixed freight Q410-10 chases from behind.

CSX B339 a empty wet rock phosphate train goes by Edison Junction to turn to South to Agrock where CSX will hand over its train too Mosaic where there company GP38-2s will take it too the Four Corners Mine for then the Company’s MP15 switchers to load the train and eventually head back. Now leading B339 today would be CSX 7823, a CW40-8 built in 1992 sporting the YN2 livery which it still sport today along with CSX 7912, a CW40-8s as well sporting YN3 livery.

Winter is back for sure as temps fell towards the upper 30s as I waited trackside at the old NE Halls Siding. Approaching me rapidly from the north is CSX manifest train M583-16. The train was lead by CSX 4568, the 50th Anniversary Operation Life Saver SD70MAC.

With downtown Cartersville covered up with people and Adairsville blocked by Christmas decorations I came back to the old faithful NE Halls shot.

An empty hopper repositioning move rolls into the Watts Creek area of Williamsburg after a meet with the inspection train at Wofford.

A pair of eastern visitors brings a northbound BNSF grain train through the U.S. Air Force Academy, CO.

CSX F715-24 heads south on the AA Line towards the Dupont plant in Kinston. The train is seen here passing over Wayerhauser Road just north of Grifton with a matching pair of YN3 GP40-2s for power. The leader is of Chessie origin, while the trailing unit is former Conrail.

It seemed like for a long time, the "typical" CSX power consist would involve at least one EMD SD50 and one GE Dash 8. Q387 is seen heading west near Kimmell, IN behind one of each. 8579 has since been retired, and 7867 has been in storage for the last few years.

CSX E302 heads up the S curve just on the southend of Bridgeport. The empty coal train has dimmed its lights cause of him meeting a CSX Q125 in the siding.

Track geometry train W001-30 is restarting east out of Connellsville after stopping for a crew change. The first car in the consist was CSX 994527, a former Southern Pacific 10/6 sleeper car built by Budd in 1950. CSX purchased it in 2020.

The classic B&O bracket gets some much needed breeze as Q507 goes through the turnout at Swanders behind five units, including only one widecab (SD70AC) and one GE (B40-8), the latter providing HP while the former hitches a ride to Cincy DIT.

Container train Q138-22 takes it slow on the snow covered tracks between the icy Youghiogheny River and Water Street. It was preparing to stop at the road crossing for the Connellsville CSX Yard until some weather-related problems got sorted out further down the line.

After making Q202 sit at the canaliver for a hour, Q509-23 finally makes it’s appearance.
