"EVERYONE LOVES TO TALK, BUT NO ONE REALLY CARES TO LISTEN. (I JUST RODE OVER TWO-HUNDRED HUNDRED MILES ON ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LINES IN THE COUNTRY, ALONGSIDE BOXCAR RAPIDS AND THROUGH RATTLESNAKE CANYONS, SURVIVING OFF THE LAND, DRINKING RIVER WATER, CLIMBING AND LEAPING OFF GREAT CLIFFS, SWIMMING, DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AND EVERYTHING I'VE EVER WANTED, YET I AM LISTENING TO YOU TELL OF ONE OF YOUR DRUNK EN FORAYS INTO WOMEN'S LIVES - NAMES YOU DON'T REMEMBER - LIKE I CARE.)" - WHISTLE BLOWER.

My daily challenge is to think of exciting new photographs to shoot. I sometimes wake with a brilliant idea, I sometimes think of them as I walk down stairs in the morning, I sometimes plan a whole day out capturing and then processing to choose my fav, I sometimes struggle to take one that I like at all :( however what I have loved about the 365 challenge and dipping in and out of ODC2 is that I am improving all of the time, using my camera to capture the beautiful world around me. I love it and I love this picture that I didn't take (had my Stephen press the shutter) but I love the fact that I actually got round - finally - to do writing with light - photography is my daily challenge but I love it!
Happy Friday peeps - it is the weekend and time (nearly) to party...
Cursive fonts from Draughtsman's Alphabets by Hermann Esser (1845–1908). Digitally enhanced from our own 5th edition of the publication.
As a writer (and hopefully a photographer) in the making, I'm often scared of the first and terrible blank page as I fear I won't be good enough to fiil it with inspiring and meaningul words.
...
I'm wrong. We shouldn't fear the unknown, we must see it as a challenge and face it with our heads lifted towards the sky!

I received my first calligraphy set at age eleven from my great aunt Octavine.
As the family correspondent, Aunt Vinee appreciated excellent penmanship and the art of font. Octavine was old fashioned. She wore bloomers and muslin dresses from the 1950s.
Aunt Vinee encouraged me and I found I very much enjoyed the rather "old lady" pastime of calligraphy. I practiced and practiced. I bought alphabet books and taught myself fonts. As a left-hander, I couldn't follow the instructions given thus I developed my own style and technique.
Once I had the basics of letter formation, spacing, and placement I began to practice Hebrew calligraphy. I was taught the Hebrew alphabet at a young age, so the letters were familiar.
Luckily, I have figured a way to turn my "old lady" talent into a practical art. Finding that wedding invitations, Bar and Bat Mitzvah invitations, marriage contracts, Ketubah (Jewish marriage contract), concert posters, baby announcements and graduation announcements all require the flair of calligraphy allows calligraphy to blossom in the modern world and bring beauty to the everyday.
Please see my blog for examples of my art, inspirations and processes:

When was your last time writing something seriously on a paper with a pen not a keyboard? Computer does make our lives much more convenient, but it makes me scared when i look at my handwriting and it looks so strange to me...
I saw this young lady busily writing whilst enjoying a coffee in a Lincoln Coffee Bar. She seemed so intense.

I am thinking of selling these. What do you think?
And would you want it to be able to frame it (so leave it as paper)
or I was thinking of laminating, especially with the poems, because there is a just as beautiful one of the other side.
Would love your thoughts.
When my father-in-law was working for Bonneville the sliderule was high tech. Even when I was in high school. But for my son, the requirement ws a graphing calculator. Times have changed.

According to Google, this is the official name of this rock formation, at Brimham Rocks in Yorkshire.
Based on late 17th century French pattern design, discovered in Provence region - hence the name. I've developed the steps to reproduce it. Enjoy :)
Another Art Nouveau inspired tangle pattern. It helps to turn the page round to do the 'top' layer. Keep your corners curved and your arches asymmetrical.
All my tangle patterns are now available at my blog perfectly4med.wordpress.com
Manuscript title: Silver Book of the Land
Manuscript summary: On 86 leaves of parchment, the Silver Book of the Land contains the statutes of the entire region of Appenzell. It is an assemblage of older legal texts; at a later time more recent statutes were added to it. Following the division of the region of Appenzell that took place in 1597, the book became the property of the Canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden and remained valid into the 19th century. Rich decorations consisting of miniatures and initials indicate the great importance attributed to this volume.
