The Writers’ Museum, housed in Lady Stair's House at the Lawnmarket on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, presents the lives of three of the foremost Scottish writers: Robert Burns, Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson. Run by the City of Edinburgh Council, the collection includes portraits, works and personal objects. Beside the museum lies the Makars' Court, the country's emerging national literary monument.
The current building is a faux-medieval masterpiece by Stewart Henbest Capper dating from 1892. It was presented by the Earl of Roseberry (who probably commissioned the work) to the city for use as a museum in 1907. Only then did it acquire the name of "Lady Stairs House". It incorporates replicas of various carved stones probably from the earlier building. The house it replaced was demolished in 1890.

Dickinson House is a residency space for writers around the world, located in rural East Flanders, Belgium. We are open on an occasional basis for bookings as a literary B&B—ideal for intimate gatherings or weekends away with a writing group.

Writers' Building
Designed by Thomas Lyon in 1777 as offices for the East India Company. The city's first three-storey building.
Taken over by 'Fort William College' for linguistic studies in 1800.
Additions and extensions in 1889 & 1906 gave the building its current appearance.
In 1930, the 'notorious' Colonel N. S. Simpson [Inspector General of Police] was shot by three revolutionaries from the Bengal Volunteers.
Used by various Bengali Government departments since India's independence.
