Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

BY ROBERT FROST

Whose woods these are I think I know.

His house is in the village though;

He will not see me stopping here

To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer

To stop without a farmhouse near

Between the woods and frozen lake

The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake

To ask if there is some mistake.

The only other sound’s the sweep

Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I sleep.

The weather fitted the condition of the artwork.

Much like I enjoy shooting vintage cameras, I love writing with fountain pens. For years I have enjoyed crafting my own in my workshop. This is a closeup macro photo of the nib on my newest creation that I call “Night Writer” which is made of Ebony and Black Titanium.

Paperback writer (paperback writer)

Dear Sir or Madam, will you read my book?

It took me years to write, will you take a look?

It's based on a novel by a man named Lear

And I need a job

So I wanna be a paperback writer

Paperback writer

It's a dirty story of a dirty man

And his clinging wife doesn't understand

His son is working for the Daily Mail

It's a steady job

But he wants to be a paperback writer

Paperback writer

Paperback writer (paperback writer)

It's a thousand pages, give or take a few

I'll be writing more in a week or two

I could make it longer if you like the style

I can change it 'round

And I wanna be a paperback writer

Paperback writer

If you really like it you can have the rights

It could make a million for you overnight

If you must return it you can send it here

But I need a break

And I wanna be a paperback writer

Macro Monday's theme, Beatles/beetles. Ian Rankin is the paperback writer.

...well photographers block; struggling for inspiration, playing with DOF on my Macro lens and a pack of pencils to see if anything creative could occur.

Sitting on it, or experiencing it. The view of the quarry may help or hinder inspiration, I suppose.

The other day I was out with my new Canon 85 mm portrait lens hoping I had the courage to ask a stranger to pose for me, something I have done only a few times before. As I walked through a small park I found an elderly gentleman sitting on a bench holding a camera. I was encouraged by the camera and I asked if I could take his picture. He obliged and I took a few shots shaking a bit for being so nervous. We started chatting and it turned out he was a professional phtographer and a writer. He had recently published a book by the title 'Yaneura Praha' (屋根裏プラハ、新潮社), an essay collection from the years he lived in Prague. When I told him I had studied Czech language and stayed in Brno, Czech Republic for a short time, he said he would give me a copy of the book.

I enjoyed chatting with him and hearing about his stays in Austria, Czechoslovakia and New York. He had also visited my home country Finland mainly for stop-overs but once he was forced to stay there (LOL) for a longer time due to the volcano eruption in Iceland. To my understanding his impression was positive nevertheless.

Having returned home I immediately googled his name, Chotoku Tanaka, and only then realized he is a very famous photographer, a leica specialist, and a writer having published more than 150 titles. My interest in photography started so recently and knowledge is so shallow, that I didn’t recognize the name.

It was a nice encounter and I am happy to have a reason to brush up my Japanese skills reading his book Yaneura Praha.

This was shot with the help of a big tripod, a manfrotto Magic-Arm and a really shacky ladder. Lit by a Profoto D1 in a beautydish, I used f1.4 and 1/250, ISO 64 to keep a little bit of the ambient light. Otherwise the spotlight-effect would be too strong...
