After Wade and co-writer Jake's harrowing script about a family who loses their son in a school shooting made semi-finals in Austin Film Festival's prestigious competition, they decided to go and check it out - something Wade's wanted to do for a decade now.

"Ling" is a Melbourne based graffiti writer and streetartist defined by a style that bridges the gap between raw graffiti culture and refined fine-art impressionism.

"Ling's" work is characterized by a "maximalist" approach that fuses high-energy, nostalgic motifs with sophisticated technical execution whose characters often feature signature elements like mirrored "orange" sunglasses.

A little cafe/store that actually opens before the park does. Cast members can grab some breakfast before work here.

Imagine a special room where you need to crawl to enter, where you can scribble on the walls and dismantle the furniture because they're like large pieces of lego blocks! That's The Writers' Room, which is a brand new, unique space for students of the Diploma in Creative Writing for TV and New Media (DTVM) at SP's School of Communication, Arts and Social Sciences.

I was an avid reader of May Sarton books in my 20's. I am revisiting her later work, some which she wrote a few years before her death in her 80's. I am reading her letters and her biography by Margot Peters (May agreed to publish the biography after her death). A whole body of work. A Whole life. This photograph is of May in the Summer of 1930.

Sue Tilley & Leigh Bowery

Cotton reels on metal on acrylic paint on wood

Sue Tilley is a writer, model and artist. She was one of Bowery’s close friends and later wrote his biography. ‘We met at a nightclub and as we had similar backgrounds and family, we just became friends very quickly’, Tilley says of their relationship. After she painted this portrait, Bowery added spools of thread on top. Through doing this, the artwork becomes a metaphor for the way Bowery used fabric as a way to fashion his identity.*

From the exhibition

Leigh Bowery!

(February – August 2025)

A celebration of the boundary-pushing career of artist Leigh Bowery.

Leigh Bowery’s short but extraordinary life left a distinct, undeniable mark on the art world and beyond.

An artist, performer, model, TV personality, club promoter, fashion designer and musician, Bowery took on many different roles, all the while refusing to be limited by convention.

From his emergence in the nightlife of 1980s London through to his later daring and outrageous performances in galleries, theatres, and the street, Bowery fearlessly forged his own vibrant path. He reimagined clothing and makeup as forms of painting and sculpture, tested the limits of decorum, and celebrated the body as a shape-shifting tool with the power to challenge norms of aesthetics, sexuality and gender.

Embracing performance, club culture and fashion design, Bowery created some of the most iconic images of the 1980s and 90s that continue to resonate, with his influence seen in the work of figures such as Alexander McQueen, Jeffrey Gibson, Anohni, and Lady Gaga.

This eclectic and immersive exhibition is a rare chance to experience many of Bowery’s ‘Looks’ alongside his collaborations with artists including Michael Clark, John Maybury, Baillie Walsh, Fergus Greer, Nick Knight and Lucian Freud.

It will provide a fresh insight into the creative scenes in London, New York and beyond featuring Sue Tilley, Trojan, Princess Julia, Les Child, Andrew Logan, Lady Bunny, Scarlett Cannon, MINTY and Boy George.

Moving from the club to the stage, to the gallery and beyond, step inside Bowery’s dynamic creative world that blurred the lines between art and life.
