This was exciting as my day got … the bricks were delivered for the new conservatory.
Why does everything have to come wrapped in plastic?
In the morning we had rain, then hail, and more rain.

It's lit with an SB800 through a strip softbox, high and right of camera, and Sb80 behind Annabel's left, zoomed in tight, an Sb800 behind to her right with a purple gel on, zoomed in nice and tight, and another SB80 aimed at the back wall with a purple gel covering half the flash, and flags on each side to limit the spill. It's been gently furtled in photoshop as well.

I used a hand dyed crochet thread for the petals and hand dyed fine wool for the leaf and stem
I had some friends over last night for the Thanksgiving Feast of the Millennium starting special guest chefs Stacey.H and Heather.D. I've been wanting to do this forever (since I moved to NYC) and can't even begin to describe how amazing this was (some 15 dishes!) and how much effort Stacey and Heather put into making this awesome (thank you 100x).
I woke up this morning being totally stuffed, reeking like bacon (bacon turkey, bacon dates, bacon ska-lops) and my apartment still smelling as if the oven was on fire (er, which is was for about 30% of last night . We set my upstairs neighbor's fire alarm off. Oops.)

naturally, i was gonna highlight this photograph with the famous Sinclair Lewis quote: "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross." problem is, Sinclair Lewis didn't actually say that. us Democrats, and them Republicans, love to bash each other with famous quotes uttered by this or that famous personage. problem is (and this goes for the opposition too) often times the famous person the quote is attributed to did not say the words he or she is tagged with having said. Sinclair Lewis said things similar to this: for instance, in a novel, he says (or a character says, which is not the same thing) "But he saw too that in America the struggle was befogged by the fact that the worst Fascists were they who disowned the word 'Fascism' and preached enslavement to Capitalism under the style of Constitutional and Traditional Native American Liberty."
i will say only that i find the conflation of Christianity and politics in the Republican party troubling. and i do believe that "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel." (Samuel Johnson said that.) it's kind of the reason that used car dealers often have their lots outlined in American flags. i do have a dealer buddy who collects Uncle Sam photos, and he's mad at Obama and on the fence about voting for him again (he blames Obamacare for any rise in healthcare costs, which is utter nonsense, as healthcare costs are going up, Obamacare or not.) anyway, i might be induced to part with this photo, at a price. not sure if that constitutes vote fraud.

yay!!! yesterday evening was one of our best light painting photo session so far. Lot of people, lot of imagination and lot of new toys to play with.
Newspaper packages at British Library Newspapers, Colindale, north London.
The British Library is moving the national newspaper collection from its current home in Colindale, to a purpose-built Newspaper Storage Building (NSB) in Boston Spa, West Yorkshire. The newspaper reading room closes 8 November 2013. Future access to the collection will be via a dedicated newspaper Reading Room at the Library’s main site at St Pancras, London opening in 2014.

This is the wrap skirt from "Sew What! Skirts" It was super easy to
make. However, I would recommend cutting one extra strip for the
waistband/tie. Mine was a bit short - I'm able to tie it, but there is
not much left over! Next time, I will cut 3 strips instead of two and
then trim later. You can see here that the wrap ends in the back and
there is plenty of coverage, so no peek-a-boo situations! Another idea
would be to line that one panel with a different fabric so when it does
blow in the wind - like above - it would show. Loving this book!
