I've been meaning to do a tribute to 'the' photograph of Laura Palmer for a while now. Holly and I have been watching Twin Peaks together over the past few weeks, and then this week, the theme over at TOTW is Crime Scenes, so I knew I had to do it straight away!

Last weekend marked the 7th edition of the Mega-Marathon held by puzzle-forum.de. It's a team-building event but also a test of endurance. During a 72-hour period, any member is invited to take part by submitting before-and-after photos, tallying up the number of pieces placed with each completed one. The record to beat was last year's 127,927 pieces, and it was crushed this time around with a total of 174,390.

I too was in overdrive this time, placing 9344 pieces during that 72 hour period, a good bit above my past two years' totals. I completed my 'pyramid' challenge: to complete 3 x 1000 piece, 2 x 1500 piece, and 1 x 2000 piece within the allotted time. I almost added another 1500 on top of that, but Klimt's The Maiden and my swollen eyes and aching back were a little too much to get all the way through. I got 1330 out of 1500 pieces - with another half hour I would have had it pegged.

When I participate in the marathon, I impose certain rules and a presentational style on myself which I think are apropos of the event. I have a large, round, analog-style wall clock that I take down and prop up on the table. The clock features prominently in all my progress photos - taken each hour on the hour - as a reminder of the passing of time. As soon as I take the first 'start' photo with the box and the pieces, the clock is running. Unlike puzzling with a stopwatch, where I can time out if I need a break, I don't allow myself that option. If I want to take a break, fine, but the flow of time continues. Thus, my completion times are true, start-to-finish, completion times against the clock. I do one other thing differently: I allow myself to refer to the image on the box, which I very often don't do with my regular puzzling.

One of the things I enjoy most about the marathon is going through my collection and picking out the puzzles I plan to work on. I look for lively, colorful scenes with not too much of any one color. I also stay away from certain brands with notoriously difficult piece cuts. I like to mix it up with different brands and in fact this time around two of the puzzles were from brands new to me (Sunbird and Toy & Puzzle).

A big high-5 to Maplewood Bob and son2307ic, who both participated in the marathon for the firs time, and who each did exceptionally well with 5600 and 7000, respectively. Hopefully more people will consider joining us next January as we try to break the record total once more.

I spent some time yesterday to wrap one of my favourite books Sweet Little Lies by Kaori Ekuni in a piece of orange paper with leaves inside. I think that's quite an ideal GIRLY afternoon fun, lol.

Anyway, part of the credit for this nice outcome goes to Kevin, who led me to a local art store several weeks ago. ^^

This looks horrible but it's not child abuse... he still has all his limbs even though they're safely wrapped up.

In the end of the day when we bring Karel to bed, he tends to freak out and kick and cry and can't control himself. There's no way he's going to be quiet, unless we wrap him up like this - then he falls asleep peacefully.

Leather wrapped handle. All that pretty wood stain covered up, but oh well.

A client asked us to help create an office space that felt like a gallery, and so we did. The image at the end of the hall is a 12’x12’ canvas print that C2 NY stretched to create the beautiful wrap mounts onto the wood frames. The images on the sides were done the same way.

- It was fascinating to watch this house spider enjoying a spot of lunch, in this case what appears to be a Harvestmen Spider. Once satiated her remaining meal was carefully wrapped and hung in a safe place to be finished later. Thurnham Court, Devizes.

I made this out of a piece of old coat, which I felted in the washing machine. I then added some scraps of silk with machine and hand embroidery. The button was reclaimed from a broken necklace and the ribbon was taken from an old dress.

I thought the recipients could use this bag to keep cards and other mementoes from the wedding.

How long has it been since I wore pants? Normally I wear only jeans by Nyte & Day, because of the detail mostly, but I found these nice jeans in Mischief. They fed on my love of little trinkets with jeans. I'd read on a blog about using Onrez to search for clothing, then going inworld to buy the item. Yes, I'm well aware you can buy the item on the website, but seeing the product "in the pixel" is nice.

I'm recycling the hat from my last fashion pic because it fit the casual look I was aiming for ( and I absolutely love it anyway :P) I'm also wearing a lot more prim attachments lately. I'm one who is always watching my personal prim count, but recently, I've been loosening up.
