My second post for World Environment Day / Weltumwelttag today.

The oceans and the life within them are far too important and too beautiful to be littered with our plastic waste!

The theme for World Environment Day on 5 June 2023 will focus on solutions to plastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution. The world is being inundated by plastic!

"This is our moment.

We cannot turn back time. But we can grow trees, green our cities, rewild our gardens, change our diets and clean up rivers and coasts. We are the generation that can make peace with nature.

Let’s get active, not anxious. Let’s be bold, not timid."

Rivers are the lifeline of Bangladesh. The lifeline is not in good condition. Pollution, land grabbing and stopping the natural flow of the streams are suffocating the rivers. Rivers are still flowing. The water has become blackish because of pollution. Still people’s livelihood depends on rivers. We still have time to save the rivers. If rivers are safe, we are safe. Our earth will be saved. We have “Only One Earth”. Let not speak now, it’s time to stop pollution, gabbing and ensure natural flow of rivers.

A picture taken at Guajara-Mirim (Border between Brazil and Bolivia in the Amazon region) from the Pakaas Hotel which shows the encounter of the waters of the Mamoré and Pacaás Novos rivers (Amazonia). The dark waters are from Pacaas Novos River and the mud waters are from Mamoré River. There are several characteristics that make the difference in the color of the water, but mainly because the Mamoré receives several tributaries from the eastern portion of the Andes and these tributaries carry a lot of sediment, these sediments are responsible for the muddy color of the water. On the other hand, the Pacaás, as with the Rio Negro, in the Amazon, is loaded with organic acids that are derived from the decomposition of organic matter released in the vegetation of its margin area, so it becomes darker. It's amazing because the waters do not mix for miles and miles.

World Environment Day

The foods we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink and the climate that makes our planet habitable all come from nature.

Yet, these are exceptional times in which nature is sending us a message:

To care for ourselves we must care for nature.

It’s time to wake up.

To take notice.

To raise our voices.

It’s time to build back better for People and Planet.

This World Environment Day, it’s Time for Nature.

The theme for 2020 is biodiversity.

Is this the Gate to the Underworld or to Paradise ?

Spring time,a bit overcast and the soft rain created an ambiance closer to myths than reality. The scenery along the Acheron River, the river of Hades as it is described in the Homeric poems, triggered my imagery and started looking for the other four rivers that flow into the river of pain and run in the Underworld.

I could only see the Acherusius River,at least at the moment,as Cocytus,Phlegethon,Lethe and Styx were absent and so were the ferryman,Charon, and his boat …

I could only see a cave by the river and was wondering if it is

I’ve told only half of my story now.It was something from the recesses of the past. The rest of it takes place here on Earth, where the Goddess of Dawn Eos is playing with the Shades and the Shadows along the River ...

HAPPY WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 💚

Same season (autumn) as the previous photo. Except that here the leaves drop on the ipê-roxo and within days the blossoms appear.

The flower bloom or they dry up they are a beautiful sight and they always add to a better environment especially on this World Environment Day. Highlighting their color is the sunlight, igniting a beautiful color on the petals!

This month's theme, nominated by Phunnyfotos was 1969 music. Phunny helpfully provided the chart topping list from that year.

This song ( 2 songs) Aquarius/Let the sunshine in leapt to mind immediately. Of course now I can't get it out of my mind

Great theme Phunny.

These photos were taken on a crisp sunny morning with fog and golden sun rays over the wetland ponds. A bit like today! Today is also World Environment Day Time for nature!

Something from the Recesses of the Past by the Acheron River ...

Spring time,a bit overcast and the soft rain created an ambiance closer to myths than reality. The scenery along the Acheron River, the river of Hades as it is described in the Homeric poems, triggered my imagery,I absented myself from the real world and started unfolding the layers of the myths to perceive the Haecceity.

The Goddess of Dawn Eos started playing with the Shadows and Shades along the verdant banks of the river and the poplars embraced the willows and started dancing and trembling over the blue waters....

Was the smoothly flowing water travelling the souls to Hades,to Eternity or to Paradise on Earth ? Was it the River of Pain that runs in the Underworld or the River of Life ?

The ferryman,Charon, and his boat were absent.I could not see any souls travelling to the kingdom of Hades ...

I could only see The River- God Acheron, son of Helios, and a garlanded vessel, where a happy breeze gently fans the roses of Elysium...

The description of the Acheron and the Underworld in Plato's Phaedo, is very peculiar, and not very easy to understand...

John Milton, let me borrow his words,Eschatology was over and I started enjoying the Utopic sceneries along the beautiful river …

" Come down from Heaven,Urania.Listening to you I get higher than Mount Olympus, even higher than Pegasus, the winged horse, that can fly. I’ll call you that even though you’re not one of the nine Muses or one of the Olympian Gods. You were born in Heaven. Before the world was created you were already there. You made God happy as you talked and played and made poetry with your sister,Wisdom.

Now you better guide me safely back down to Earth where I belong, before I fall, like Bellerophon, who fell off Pegasus and ended up lost and wandering aimlessly... "

John Milton - Paradise Lost

I’ve told only half of my story now.The rest of it takes place here on Earth …I could not see the Gate to Pluto's Realm, the Gate to the Underworld ... The Crystal Clear Waters were running to the Gate of Paradise ... There’s a lot more I wanted to show you, but I think the magic will drop if I put more and your eyes will begin to wear off ...

PS : The Suda massive 10th century Byzantine encyclopedia-lexicon of the ancient Mediterranean world, which is written in Greek – with 30,000 entries, describes the Acheron River as a place of healing, for spititual journeys where liberty is linked to wisdom and your soul goes up into Heaven ...

Enjoying the Utopic Sceneries by the River and Crossing the Borders of Mythology to Perceive the Real Haecceity ...

And feeling that I have always existed and that I possess memories that date back to ancient Greece ...

♥ Always Thankful for your Comments and your Little Pink Stars ... ♥

Climate change still threatens the lives and incomes of millions of people.

Climate change is disastrous for humans of this world. Hurricanes, droughts and floods: the weather is getting more extreme. Governments and companies are doing far too little to stop climate change.

That can not continue. Time for action!

We need to take care of the Earth. It's all we have.

Playgrounds of Change: Amidst the discarded plastic, resilience thrives. Witnessing the local boys from a nearby slum in Tangra, Kolkata, finding joy amidst adversity reminds us of the urgent need to tackle plastic waste. On this World Environment Day, let's come together to create a cleaner, greener world.

My dear Flickr friend wessexman...(Mike) posted a photo of these flowers yesterday & I wanted to share mine that I took at Green Road Gardens on Sunday. The shrub appears to be Physocarpus possibly Physocarpus opulifolius. Common name is Ninebark. The beautiful flowers were popular with early mining bees, Andrena haemorrhoa.

Hope the current pandemic has given everyone across the globe enough to think about ..

We need more of these to restore the balance else climate change is going to teach us a bigger/more difficult lesson than the current pandemic!

Peace.

How beautiful almighty has created the world around, we are not the only owners but we are share it with the whole life around.

Have you made any decision to save this beautiful environment. I have made one. Its very simple one - Shutdown my PC before leaving from office everyday, and I believe it could make big difference.

Please , My dear Friends lets make a decision now or never !!

A Friend from the Past ...

I met him by the Acheron River,he was alone, rather pensive and thinking of Bellerophon who once tamed him.He used to glide above the clouds and beneath the stars, his feet were wings and the sky was his earth...

When Bellerophon attempted to fly to heaven, the gods caused the horse to buck and the hero was thrown back down to earth. Pegasus continued to wing its way to heaven where it took a place in the stables of Zeus ...

He became one of the Immortal Horses of the Gods and was also placed amongst the stars as a constellation, whose rising marked the arrival of warmer weather and spring ...

The theme for the World Environment Day 2020 is "Celebrate Biodiversity" and I chose a photograph of the Western Ghats - one of the eight "hottest hot-spots" of biological diversity in the world - as a tribute to the environment with the hope that more people realise the importance of the environment and help preserve the same.

"Do not harm the environment; do not harm the water and flora; earth is my mother, I am her son; may the waters remain fresh, do not harm the waters. Tranquillity be to the atmosphere, to the earth, to the waters, to the crops and vegetation."

~ Vedic prayer seeking blessings for and protection of the environment.

Forests of the Western Ghats clicked in Wayanad. The Western Ghats, also known as Sahyadri (Benevolent Mountains), are a mountain range that covers an area of 140,000 square kilometres (54,000 sq mi) in a stretch of 1,600 kilometres (990 mi) parallel to the western coast of the Indian peninsula, traversing the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the eight "hottest hot-spots" of biological diversity in the world. It is sometimes called the Great Escarpment of India. It contains a large proportion of the country's flora and fauna, many of which are only found in India and nowhere else in the world. According to UNESCO, the Western Ghats are older than the Himalayas. A total of thirty-nine areas in the Western Ghats, including national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and reserve forests, were designated as world heritage sites in 2012 – twenty in Kerala, ten in Karnataka, five in Tamil Nadu and four in Maharashtra.
