China store William Ashley takes advantage of the current World Cup mania in this (what I thought) bizarre front window display. They also had World Cup sports commentary being piped out over a loudspeaker onto the street.

I suppose it does get attention from World Cup fans, but will this enthuasiastic marketing really get those fans into the shop to buy fine china?

After a tense first half England finally take the lead with a trademark David Beckham freekick and the England fans strike up another rendition of the national anthem

Japan. Let's not forget them. Aside from how I had earlier on mentioned they broke their own FIFA record of scoring three goals in a single game this year, they also made it to Round 16, the quarter finals. Yes, a serious underdog of all underdogs in this Cup. They are ranked the lowest in the FIFA National Team Ranking chart and the last of the least likely team left standing...

They will face Paraguay today.

With Chile's loss, most of the characters in this unfolding movie has left the show. Yesterday, Mexico went down with a fight and England got grilled. One more underdog to go... Japan.

As the competition is winding down so is my interest (aside from the mistakes in the games). However, I will continue to follow the games to the end. Not that my interest would be diminished.

My attention and nearly exclusive interest in this World Cup was mostly sustained by those teams (most all gone; this even included the drama kings England) who brought a display of unusual magic and roller coaster ride to this year's games especially by, and never the least, the US squad. It seems that I will never stop talking about any of the quarter finals underdogs.

(Maybe if I stop siding with the "losing" teams my feelings would be different, but I won't side away from my underdogs! Insert power anthem.)

I am attracted to a collective determination in performance through obstacles and strife. The US being just some of the few befitting that criteria in this year's games. Whether or not the team would have won the Cup in the end, they have won something aside from their most highest positions in the competition: the people's imagination.

this is one of the shooting I did for a travel magazine, themed for the soccer worldcup in South Africa, featuring 2 south african youths in german soccer shirts ... may be I will upload some more of this work, as it was really fun to shoot. The theme and location was very much given by the editor of the magazine...

Uruguay v Ghana (01 - 01, as of writing)

Extra time. Still no one scores to break the equalizer. Adrenaline is super high.

As Suárez attempts to air kick a ball, foots into the chest of a Ghanaian player instead. Rock star player of Uruguay just got the red card flipped at him! That means he misses the semi-finals (and finals, too?), if his team advances out of his crazy battle for an end.

Ghana seems relentless, as they had seem so when they took down the USA.

More later...

The game goes into the penalty shoot out now... Uruguay goes first. I hear boos in the arena.

Ghana is the heavy favorite here, as they were when they went against the USA. The Ghanaians have the whole continent backing them, once again.
