You can guess who defeated whom, can't you? While I continued to place a lot of hope in the guys winning over yet another game, it was easier to embrace that they were defeated by Brazil than Spain.
Brazil v Chile (03 - 00)
Both South American teams faced off today. The showcase was tough. Brazil seem to have played with stride and scored three goals as Chile continued to play hard relentlessly without going down easy.
I think this was a referee-controversial free match. For once.
Unlike the push-shove Chile v Spain game where it was hard to sit through without feeling frustrated at both the referee and the unjust distribution of penalty cards, the Brazil v Chile was easy to expect and choke down the results: Brazil will advance to Round 17 (aka quarter-quarter finals).
Chile goes home.
The Chilean sudden rise and amazing performance during this cup up to the quarter finals is almost (but not close) equivalent to the US's sudden rise in these games. (Chile has a long series of droughts, as with most of the headlining underdogs this year, which they finally broke this year.) The Chilean fans at home had to be hosed down from their celebration for the first two wins in the team's group matches in the first two weeks of the game.
Another team I commend.
